If you're a "Fluffy Follower", then you'll know that Fluff doesn't like to award 5 stars (although many establishes that service this wild hare seem to meet the standard). After a quick Yelp search, I found Palmgren's for a high-priority, short-notice engraving project (aren't they all?). I needed a brass plaque made for a hare razing event just a few days hence. While yelping, I noted many engravers required several days or even weeks. Yikes! I had no such time. A panicky call to Amy Palmgren assured me they would be able to meet my deadline. So off I hopped to the engraver where they exceeded my expectations. The engraving was perfect and completed hours before promised. As a rabbit living in the Petaluma community (technically under the Petaluma community), I was happy to support this 30-year local business. Thank you, Amy. I had my name engraved on a hardwood Derby cane here a while back and they did a very good job. I was able to choose a typeface I was familiar with (Copperplate) and the engraving they did was deep and sharp-edged which made for a nice look. Unfortunately the cane was stolen from me and my name engraved on it apparently had no deterrent effect! The result was a clean finish. Without your suggestions, patience, and skill we would not have this cup engraved before our departure. And for the price of $35?!?! I went there not sure what to get a family member, who has discerning taste :), as a gift. There was a huge assortment to choose from. Fine art to crafts, fine engravable silver items for special gifts to handmade jewelry. The prices ranged from very affordable to higher yet still within reason. There was something for everyone, whether you have a tight budget or the sky's the limit. I found a very nice gift for my family member, a melted wine bottle that has been embossed with a grape vine design and is for displaying your cheeses, and bought a nested stack of hot bowl holders that are designed to cradle your bowl in the microwave so when you reach in the bottom of the hot bowl is covered by the bowl holder. A stack of three ranging from small to large was less that $20.00. It was handmade locally and of very good quality. I love supporting local artists and crafts people!! Pretty much everything on the artists side of the shop is all local artists! It was very cool. I would recommend this engravable/gift shop to any passing through Petaluma, whether you are a tourist or local. After my visit I decided to sell some of my handmade jewelry and embroidery here, I enjoy doing business with her. I wouldn't use them again, which is a shame because the lady I spoke to on the phone initially was great - very friendly and informative, made me feel confident that they would do a good job. But when I turned up at their store service was cool at best. I referred to the phone call I had previously made and the quote I had been given. The price she told me in store was suddenly quite a bit more than what they had told me over the phone. She said the price I had been quoted was impossible. Unfortunately, having driven 40 minutes to get to their store, and having a hungry/tired 1yr old with me, I was in no position to argue further, so I agreed to have my engraving done. I was told it would take AT LEAST a full week to do! Really?? 8 days to engrave a name?? Again, I felt my hands were tied as I needed it done in 10 days so I agreed. I explained what I wanted and in consultation with the lady working there, chose a font. 8 days later I returned to collect my engraved item - the engraving was barely visible!! Given the miscommunication, very high prices, long turn-around time, and poor end result, I can't recommend this place unfortunately. read more

Sadly, we had a very negative customer service experience at Pamlgren's. When we ordered the engraving, we paid in cash and were told when we could expect to pick it up. No order confirmation paper or receipt was given to us. When we picked up the order, we were told that we had to pay again because we supposedly hadn't paid yet. We had no proof of payment, so we had to pay again even after explaining that we'd paid in cash. The idea that "the customer is always right" did not apply here. We returned once again to explain what had happened and give them a chance to rectify the situation before putting up a negative yelp review, but the owner continued to say we were wrong. If you plan on engraving at Palmgren's, please make sure you get proof of order and/or a receipt with an explanation of when payment is due. While we are happy with the engraving, we're NOT happy with paying double or the negative service that put a sad feeling on our holiday season. read more
