We had a very unique framing request, we wanted to display a small piece of art, but needed a bigger frame for the wall we wanted to put it on. I'm glad we went to Baxter. We needed a shadow box look that allowed us to remove a small framed piece of art from the new frame. The piece was from 1928. On the back was a handwritten note from my wife's grandmother to her grandfather. My wife wanted to be able to remove the piece from the frame, and view the written note. The value isn't necessarily in the piece of art, but the family historic value. We did not want to damage the original piece. Baxter put together a great frame, allowing us to remove the piece from the "display frame", then return it to the frame. It turned out great, exactly how we envisioned it. Baxter was delightful, easy to work with, very precise, listened to what we wanted and delivered an amazingly beautiful frame. read more

Beautifully framed multiple pieces with very good insight and recommendations. Worth every penny!

Baxter is the absolute best, hands down. We trust with very expensive and one of a kind items and he comes through every time.

Wow! I had a very small project for Baxter--to create a custom mat for a poster. I was prepared to leave the poster and frame with him, but he told me he could cut a new mat on the spot. The price was reasonable, and the service couldn't have been friendlier or more professional. The next time I need a substantial framing job, I'll take my business to Baxter's. read more

Did good work and there are plenty of options. The studio is very nice. Mr Baxter and his staff know what they are doing.

My Doctorate had been collecting dust in my drawer for some time now until I decided to professionally frame it to be preserved. I found Baxter's simply on Yelp & asked them how I need to go about framing my diploma. Their response time was very quick & I was told to bring in my diploma so they can take a look at it. No appointment needed. They are located in the heart of downtown Petaluma in Kentucky St. which is a one way street, so parking is a bit tricky. There is lots of street parking but because the downtown area is always busy be ready to park where ever you find a spot. I took my diploma with me & Baxter the gentleman was the only person at the shop who helped me. He took a look at my diploma & I told him i want to accentuate the red & gold on the diploma. He showed me a bunch of frames until I found the perfect red/black color & then he tried to show me how it would look after its done which was helpful in the decision making. I also asked him about the UV protection glass which he told me is called the museum glass if I'm not mistaken & that it would protect/preserve my diploma for lifetime. Also he showed me the glass on other frames in the shop & how less reflective it is so I was well informed of the choices i was making. Once I chose my frame & glass he proceeded to tell me that the process would take about a month at the time because it was only him at the shop, which I really appreciated because I had no idea. My frame ended up being about 240$ with tax which was well worth it because 1) its personally custom made for me with protective glass 2) I will always cherish my diploma when I look at it & just enjoy my accomplishment in style, 3) not to mention supporting my local Petaluma businesses. He did mention I can leave a deposit now & pay the full amount later when its ready or just pay in full now, so its good to have the options as well. I got the text from Baxter towards the end of the 1month timeline he gave me & said that my frame was finally ready! Of course I ran over to get my frame... I LOVED IT!!!! Not to mention Baxter just remembered my name when I walked in the shop! Great memory :) My diploma was finally framed & the colors in the frame just represented my alma mater so well I was amazed. He also gave me the instructions on how to remove a finger mark on the glass too! Bonus! This was such a great experience for me! It brought back some of my proudest moments in life & now I get to relive those moments through this frame. Thank you so much read more

Baxter has done different types of framing jobs for us. In all cases we kept our original frames - both antique and more contemporary. He's done repairs, re-framing, new custom mats, and added nonreflective glass for our beloved artwork. He has an extraordinary gift for putting it all together. We consider it an investment and his prices are very fair. Five stars to the moon and back. read more

I came to Baxter's with a special piece, painted by my Sister-in-law. By giving just 1 or 2 inputs toward the type of framing I desired and the space the piece would ultimately inhabit, Baxter guided me to a price and result with which I could not be more pleased. Thank you! I highly recommend this business. read more

I recommend Baxter's with enthusiasm. I was warmly greeted, given terrific options with my artwork and got to discuss one of my favorite topics, jazz. I really like supporting my local workers and artisans. Baxter's seems to be one of the businesses that make Petaluma a great place to live. Mr. Baxter did a fantastic job framing my piece, a Peet's Coffee image that had been placed under my bed, unprotected, for close to 10 years. He helped me pick the perfect frame that made my image really PoP. There were a few kinks in the paper but he straightened out all of that and returned to me a beautifully framed piece that I'll cherish, hopefully for more than the next 10 years. The way it's mounted I'm sure it'll show nicely for many years to come. From start to finish, the consummate professional, his skills and years in the business at guiding customers through the different options, mounting and presentation are obvious. I'm sure he'd heard every question regarding framing that one could imagine yet he left me feeling that no question was too trivial for him to answer. Giving my business to local merchants added to the joy I have in my new, professionally framed piece. He's a pleasure to work with and I can't recommend him highly enough! read more

I bought an 70/80 year old painting on linen in India -- it had significant crease lines from being folded and was in "medium" condition at best, so it was an unusual an challenging project. Baxter's mounted it perfectly and framed it beautifully, and the result is museum quality. You want to go to Baxter's if you want the highest quality framing. David read more

I have never used a professional framer before, so I thought I'd give it a try instead of settling for a boring store-bought frame. It was fun choosing a frame material that went well with the feel of this movie poster. I'm really happy with how it turned out! I think the frame and poster art complement each other perfectly. Baxter was so kind and helpful; I'd highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great frame job! :) read more

When I heard Baxter was opening his own shop here in Petaluma I was thrilled. I had been going to see him in Fairfax for years because he's just that good. Had my first piece done locally and couldn't be happier. Great work, better man, go check him out! read more

Baxter has been framing all of our artwork for over 20 years now, at another location previously and NOW at his own new space in Petaluma! Honestly, I don't even have requests anymore when I drop off artwork to Bax. His skill is incredible and his aesthetic is perfect. For me, he gets my style perfectly and I am always thrilled with the results of my framed pieces. I have seen his work for other clients too and seriously, it's always fantastic. Baxter listens to requests carefully and has the skill to guide his clients into great looks. So many times, Baxter's framing is better than the art being framed. Plus, he is the frigging best. Working with Baxter is a total delight! read more
