The first time I've ever been greeted as I walked into a Michael's. That was nice. It's a large store, with the usual everything you need for knic knac crafting. Good service. The parking lot is treacherous. Someone tried to squeeze way too many spots into available land. The neutral driving space is dangerously cramped with not enough space for safe walking. read more

What a horrible experience. I went to Michael's tonight after finding the exact item I needed on their website. The site said they had plenty of what I was looking for at my location. I walked in and asked a young man at the registers, who was busy shining the scanning gun around on himself and other things, where the item was. He radioed for someone who said where it was - but it wasn't. I pulled out my phone and searched again and found the aisle listed - where the item also wasn't. I found a clerk stocking shelves. I showed her my phone including a picture of the item and asked her if she knew where the item was. Her response was a simple, flat "No" and she looked away and continued stocking shelves. I did, on my own, find a substitute that may work only to find that I had to ring myself up while scanner boy continued to experiment. If Michael's doesn't want business, they should just lock the doors. Pathetic. read more

The employee who checked us out wouldn't apply a teacher's discount. She said "We don't really know how it works. The system decides. Sometimes it applies, sometimes it doesn't..." I guess they just apply it when they feel like it? It is also difficult to find an employee to ask a question. I can't imagine this store or the brand in general will be in business in 5 years time. The fine arts section is disorganised and frequently out of stock for the items I need (pens, markers, etc.). Their store brand, Artist Loft, is replacing a once wide choice of brands and is low quality. This location recently installed self-checkout machines. I politely asked one of the young employees to be checked out by a living person instead of a robot and she became frustrated with me and angrily told me to call Michaels to complain there. She also said that if I didn't want to use a self-checkout in the future, that no other employee would come out to help me. Then she proceeded to help other people behind me who didn't ask for a person either. WOW! It seems they are understaffed or not trained well. I feel devalued as a regular customer to this Michaels. It's sad to see that they don't even value their own employees too because they're replacing them with robots. read more

I am belatedly, reviewing my last year and Michaels played a big roll in keeping us occupied and safe. I love store pickup. Most of the time I pull up and they bring it to the car in a few minutes. I have often, ordered and picked up a few hours or less, later. The store is tight. So it is always a concern to walk through but, people are paying attention to spacing in lines and respectfully, give one another shopping space, too. I love going to Michaels for One thing, walking around and leaving with all sorts of new projects in my head. The staff is excellent, kind and helpful. We recently had my daughter's birthday in the party room at Michaels in Petaluma. The whole experience was excellent and exceeded my expectations! A big shout out to the wonderful staff members Mitchell and Moana who really went over and above to make the birthday party special and to lead the craft activities and help out with the smooth-running of the party. They had decorated the party room really nicely with balloons etc. They asked about my daughter's interests (in advance) and had printed out some Pokemon coloring and puzzle sheets so that kids who didn't want to do every craft activity could do their own thing. When we arrived, the staff had done a big chalk-drawn personal Happy Birthday message outside the entrance to the store to mark my kids birthday. And they even presented her with a gift from the store. It was especially convenient that for $50 you can have 3 pizzas delivered from Dominos and all the napkins, plates, forks, cups and party hats came included in the package which made it super easy to organize. Good resource for all things arts and crafts. They even have a good selection of vinyl cutting supplies and cutting machine parts. The only problem with this store is the inventory. It looks as if the store hasn't been re-stocked since it was first opened which makes it a good possibility that you will return empty handed as they will most likely be out of the color/shape/size you are looking for. read more

I should have read the Yelp reviews before doing a curbside pick up. Called the store to ask questions about the frame I wish to purchase. After confirming the product specs with employee, I ordered online and picked up the product curbside the next day. The frame have scratches and cracks and also not what they described to it to be so I went inside the store to return and they couldn't issue me a credit. They said something about the bar code that can't be scanned. They tried to do it manually and claimed it wasn't working either. After over 15 minutes at the store, I accepted the store credit they offered me. This store needs to be reported to the consumer bureau for not issuing credits on damaged items that have receipts and obviously not used yet. I don't think I'm coming back to this store ever. read more

The selection is pretty standard fare and they keep the store clean and orderly. I give them 3 stars for the store itself, and the missing starts are because of the our service. They are always short staffed with a line going into the aisles on the weekends. Once you get to the registers, the staff members are hardly ever adequately trained to actually use the registers and have to call a manager for help each time. I think this store needs a few more properly trained employees. read more

Avoid using their UPS!! I found out recently that this store is a UPS access point that helps ship packages. I went to drop off my pre-paid package and two of the employees didn't even know what I was talking about. Once someone figured out where in the store the access point was, processing the shipment was a whole other story. I figured it was a new service so I tried to be patient. I got a receipt they processed my shipment. Three days later and my UPS tracker is showing that the package was never picked up and is still sitting at this Michaels. I called the location and told them I was trying to see if my package got picked up, I got put on hold for 10 minutes. When someone picked up they had me repeat my whole story again. Then she confirmed "I don't know. I'm not sure. Oh yeah I remember seeing that. I'll make sure it gets picked up by UPS today". I checked the tracking after they closed and it still hasn't been picked up. Now I've had to open a claim with UPS and I'm out on my $$$ since the package is a return. read more

I rarely come here but when I do, it's a pretty good experience. During my most recent visit, I came here looking for foam board and I got quick assistance from an employee here finding it. The foam boards were a bit too bit for what I needed (light box for photography) unfortunately. Instead of saying "better luck next time" or recommending somewhere else to go, the person assisting me offered to cut it for me back at the frame shop. Whoa! This is unheard of! Please have your employees remind patrons about indoor mask mandate. If staff do not want to confront shoppers then a general announcement over head will be a gentle reminder. It's where we need to go for crafting supplies here in Marin - or JoAnn's. The people who work there are nice. They seem either overwhelmed, untrained or the building and company somehow drains the life out of the place. But they do carry decent supplies with crazy sales. Could they make it more inviting somehow? Change the lighting, diffuse essential oils to disperse the artificial scents. Warm it up and I'll be there more. Otherwise, have patience, be nice and expect it to be like a warehouse. read more

It has been a long time since I have felt the need to leave a review... but the day has come. I went to Michael's in the hope of finding something (last minute) for Father's Day, but unfortunately, my mind decided to not be so creative in that moment...soooooo my cousin and I decided to leave and at the last minute found some canvas. We got in a pretty decently long line and waited our turn. When we were at the front of the line we got distracted by the candy and the lady at the cash register in a rude tone called out 'NEXT'. We head to the register and I cannot describe this woman as anything other than unappealing. I regret not giving her an attitude and not saying anything. As were standing there in front of her she takes her personal cell phone out of her pocket and then looks at her text messages. She didn't even try to hide it. I am just so sad by her quite awful customer service and how she reflected so poorly on the store. I'm gonna call her out too! Her name is Elizabeth and she looked to be 40+, she had brown hair and just looked like she didn't want to be there. I hope someone from Michael's reads this and they talk to that woman. I am giving a one because you cannot give a zero. I had a very negative experience with the custom frame dept. The worker, Jasmine, was helping a difficult customer with framing. I was waiting to have matting cut. After 20 minutes he finally asked what I needed, I told him. He stated that it would cost $5, I told him it was done free last time...at this he rolled his eyes and demanded who did this. He then went back to helping the other person...it only takes 3 minutes to make the cuts. After another 20 minutes of waiting I got the on duty manager Jessica. She was basically useless in the situation. At this point Jasmine made a snotty comment that custom framing takes time. I was done and left. These two need serious retraining. Every time I leave Michael's I tell myself "never again", but always end up going back from the lure of a framing sale or coupon. First off the customer service here is awful! I have yet to come across ANYONE who knows what they are talking about. Typical people working here lazily roam the aisles in their aprons, avoiding eye contact, with customers. When the registers back up they disappear, leaving one lone soul begging for help over the intercom. There is rarely anyone in the framing department. First you have to walk to the back, wait a few for someone to appear, once they don't, wait in the long check out line, walk back, hear a page for help in framing 5 minutes later, and after another good 10-15 minutes wait, a put out employee resurrects from the break room. I used to hate Michaels with an unbridled passion. Growing up, every Michaels we went to was a hellish nightmare of fake flowers, glitter and crappy birdhouses. Don't get me wrong, this place has fake flowers, glitter, and crappy birdhouses. But there's so much more. It's well organized and clean, the workers are helpful but unobtrusive (not being everpresent as gnats or totally unavailable). I appreciate their selection in a lot of areas, they frequently have sales, and they have a military discount. We spent about an hour there tonight and the experience was pretty much stress-free, which I value highly (especially at a Michaels!) read more

Went in to Michaels this morning and found the store very neat and well organized. Purchased some black box frames. They were $29.99 for a package of 3. On sale for $15.00 but when I approached the check out, I was told they were not on sale. Only regular frames were on sale for $15.00 We went back and checked out the price. Turns out the box frames were not on sale; However, it was quite confusing and was not made clear to the customer {I didn't think} She gave them to me at the sale price. Now, how nice was that? This is a satisfactory Michaels store. I stopped in here to buy cardstock for some baby shower invitations and I was pleased to find it on sale. I just wish they sold it in reams of one color and not the variety pack. You'd think with such a large scrapbooking section they would have a bigger selection of solid-color cardstock but they don't. The woman at the register was friendly. There is another Michaels store closer to my home but I would return to this one if I was in the area. read more
