Dive bars are not generally my scene, but if they were I'd be at this one a lot! The bar itself has typical beverage options, plus several simple snack options if you're in the market for that. The charming diversity of this West Bank neighborhood is pretty well represented at Palmer's Bar, and I really like that about it. The flatiron shape of the building is unique and eye-catching, and now that I've been inside I'll never forget that on the inside of the pointy end of the flatiron is a tiny little stage that is used to snugly contain small performing rock bands. And the sound is pretty good! Most people will rather like the outdoor patio, and with good reason. It's comfortable and adds a lot of character. Also it's a place for smokers, which makes it, well, smoker-y. Bear that in mind if you're excited about the patio. Definitely consider coming here if you're interested in a fun little bar with college kids rocking out on a petite, dainty stage.

Saw a really fun show here!! Nice staff and good service. It's a very small stage and music isn't too loud; I had a great time! Minimal food.

Yep, we know great dive bars and Palmer's definitely deserves a place on our long list of memorable establishments. Bartender Zach served up a $8 pitcher of Hamm's, then threw in shots of Jameson. I think I'm going to like it here...

How is the neighborhood and parking situation? Thanks for any info!

There is some metered parking and a pay lot almost right across the street. Neighborhood seems like it could be a bit rough but you should be fine if you stay off the side streets.

They described it as an upscale dive bar which I laughed at for sure, but when I went I would say that exactly how I would describe it. It's dark and moody, but very funky and hip with the neon walls and lights. It's very small, behind the new Public Domain space. Seems like the hostesses direct people waiting on a spot there to Neon Tiger while they wait. We were able to snag one of the last tables after we ordered (there are about 5 tables for 2, and 3 standing bar tables from what I remember). The menu isn't large - it has a couple of beers, some basic cocktails and lists spirits and mixers. The only new and exciting thing on the menu is their slushy cocktails. Good news is that this place isn't very pricey, but the portions aren't huge. My small espresso martini was $12, my boyfriend's beer didn't quite look like a full pint but was only $4. We did laugh that it was called Tiger piss. The espresso martini is good, but beware there's no actual cream liquor in the drink - they seem to squirt some foamy concoction from an unmarked squeeze bottle in a fridge on top, which was interesting. Overall, would come back here if I was bar hopping for cocktails - but wouldn't go out of my way to try it again. Great idea to send people here while waiting for Public Domain!

They have three rooms where things happen. The main room (aka Mattson Room) has a great wood dance floor and you'll see things happening here in the afternoon (line dancing, square dancing, etc) and then bands rocking out in the evening. The 2nd room, is the medium size room. Here too I've seen all sorts of great bands play and it too has room to throw down your dance moves or just rock out. The 3rd room. Wow. This room is tiny and it is where the metal bands play. It is loud and it'll melt your face. They also offer food and drinks are way cheap. We'll come here to watch Vikings games. They have both a kitchen that offers salads and burgers, and the traditional bar frozen pizza. You're not getting a Heggies here but you will get a Jakeeno's. In the Twin Cities, this is the only place I know serving up this variety. You need a place to watch a Vikes game or the Wild? This is the place. Drink specials during Vikes games too!

I came there with my Sister that is legally blind And has to speak louder because she's hearing impaired.. And my Sister met a man there later whom she has never met before, that ended up a very rude and quite loud and obnoxious person when he kept drinking alcohol! Myself and my date was a witness to his behavior that sprung out of control! He was getting too fresh with my Sister that kept pushing his hands away! He kept using cuss words! And yelling where's that bartender? And I would say to him if you want a drink? Go to the bar yourself these two bartenders have been working so hard in this heat all day long!! Well he didn't like that and started screaming at me! I then told the man that it's not the bartenders job to come to the table .. It's his responsibility to go ask for his own drink of choice, He grew more angry at me for no reason then he got our bartender Joy involved and was making things up that I had never said? I don't even know this man.. My Sister was just texting with him for a couple months on some date site.. And asked him if he wanted to meet her.. He came to the bar and seemed really hyper.. My Sister.. my date and I were still very respectful and nice to the man until he sprung out of control, And because all of that took place my Sister, date and I were asked to leave because Joy the bartender didn't want any more loudness.. We respected that and I was about to go get my Sister and date and let them know that we have to leave the bar .. and just when I was about to go get my Sister at our table... That man came back to see my Sister at the table! I thought that security asked him to leave? But he came back to to try to talk to my Sister.. I wasn't at the table so I didn't hear what he had said, Neither did my Sister or my date because he was screaming! When that man had walked away from the table he came right up to me real close and looked like he was very angry.. I didn't say anything and I went to our table and took my Sister by the hand and walked out the door.. I can't believe the man that started the feud wasn't asked to leave also? It was a very sad and shocking night for my Sister, My Date and I .. We never have been treated so disrespectfully ever at any place of business!!

We went this last week with a large group before a show and had another great experience. We didn't make any sort of reservation and they were able to seat us right away. The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.
