When you are Yelp!'s #1 OUTLAW where do you hang your spurs? Palmer Square at Princeton University! Why you might ask!? Because I am the least preppy and run-of-the-mill hanging-on-mom-and-dad's-expense account type. My ruggedness fits right in at 'Palmer Square' with my leather jackets and frayed jeans: the way oil and vinegar mix! That said, I enjoy my outlaw status at Princeton's angled walkways and shops and cliche coffee houses. When I enter Small World Coffee or order up at The Yankee Doodle Tap Room the women visibly gasp at my long locks and muscles in disbelief! People either think I am an astrophysicist on a hallucinogenic or a Greaser from the 1950s. The Rebel Chef has what is sorely needed in this town: frassos. Palmer Square is where all the ritzy brats in this town go to buy their $500 undershirts, Choo-choo train toys and loafers. It's a lit-up snazzy horseshoe shaped little park with some sign posts, historical markers, restaurants, bars, clothes stores, arches and bookshops. People come to walk poodles. It gets busy around here between about 10am until 3pm, after that all the monocled scientists and 'an athletic scholarship in high jump bought me my way to a degree in biology' - types go to their small dorms for long naps. Palmer Square is nonetheless an archaic but valued (if for its aura and celebrated window shopping) nexus and hub for the hamlet of Princeton. When I want to give my Khaki and Lacoste wardrobe a workout I usually head to the center of Princeton. Like something out of a Blue Blood Sno-Globe, Palmer Square forms the commercial and communal heart of this university town offering an endless array of usual suspect upscalia - shops, restaurants and a centerpiece "Green" to celebrate all seasons and give countless Simon & Garfunkel tribute bands a place to earn a living. Most of the shops have turned multiple times since I've been here but new ones are always found thinking their interpretation of the $400 aromatherapy blouse will have the monied doyennes beating a path to their door. Even Brooks Brothers crashed and burned here. Cue the next tenant and a generous bailout. The real attraction in Palmer are the restaurants and outstanding food options. Local standouts like Mediterra, Mistral, Elements, Teresa's and Witherspoon Grill pack them in on the weekends with pedestrian gridlock on the Square as everyone strolls to work off the tonnage. Be forewarned, parking on a weekend when school is in session remains a Bear (or Tiger to get you in the Princeton mood) as the two parking decks are usually at full capacity early. Finally, if you ever want to torment your progressive friends, remind them over an after-dinner cappuccino, that the present day Palmer Square, in all it's immaculate glory, was accomplished by the mass relocation of "undesirable populations" in the 1930's when the area was a working class neighborhood. Sitting in the heart of Princeton, across from Princeton University, Palmer Square offers a variety of retail and dining options.  I do enjoy walking in the Square. The Nassau Inn, Yankee Doodle Tap Room, and Princeton Post Office are located here.  Unfortunately, there was a large number of empty storefronts when I was there yesterday.  Parking is a headache here, especially with construction in the area, i opted for the park-for-fee garages. read more

At first, I thought Palmer Square was just The Green, but then I realized it's The Green and surrounding shops and restaurants. I went to Palmer Square for the first time today to check out Jazz Fest, a free musical event with performances on The Green. There were also local food and brewery vendors that had set up stands - Nomad Pizza, Mediterra, Triumph Brewery, etc. It almost felt like a block party. It was tons of fun. This is just one of the events that take place at Palmer Square. If you are visiting Princeton, I recommend walking around this part of the town. You can window shop (or real shop if you are into that and into the higher end stores here), have a nice meal at any of the many restaurants and cafes, and sit and relax on a bench in The Green. read more

Very nice little square with some shops. Excellent architecture. At Christmas there's a giant tree. The only shop I visited was Thomas Sweet Shop. The chocolate was good but a little pricey. The window display is small but worth checking out. If the ice rink is open caution it's not real ice. read more

Palmer Square - Newspapers & Magazines Near Me - Princeton, New Jersey

Palmer Square in Princeton is in the style of a European town square or as they say in Spain plaza. It is as close as you will get to Europe in Central Jersey. Post office and inn in the center and businesses surrounding it is a large grassy area with a stage for event and benches with a few tables. Any number of event throughout the year are staged here. In the winter months, the evergreen tree is covered in beautiful winter lights. Throughout the year the other trees are covered in decorative lights as well. I just spent the afternoon in Palmer Square for the JazzFeast and would highly recommend this event to anyone even if you are new to Jazz like me. read more
