I concur completely with the other reviewer. This is definitely not the doily ridden B&B style that…read moremost of them unfortunately are. This place has true character that you can tell they have put their heart and soul into with taste and class saving this building from dereliction and destruction. This is definitely NOT a bored housewife weekend warrior type of B&B who has filled this place with a mismatch of unfitting antiques and Pier One chotchke. Having had to travel for a good part of my career I have stayed in many B& B's. This place will stay in my top 10 for sure and definitely hope to make the pilgrimage at least once a year. The hostess and her husband are amazing people and in the conversations had you can tell they are very genuine and have a love for the place. I can only hope that their children take up the same affection and continue on. It would be a definite loss for Jonesville and anyone who is not experienced it.

Absolutely a gem in Michigan, this is the perfect getaway spot for you and your spouse. Incredibly…read moreclean, fantastic decor and a perfect mix of the vintage and new throughout the complex. The guest innkeeper, Rachel was amazingly available for questions throughout our entire stay. Nice restaurants close by and if you enjoy antique shops, there is a complex in Allen, MI, about 5 miles away. No matter what time of year you choose to stay here, it will be worth the trip. I cannot wait to return to this destination.

I love the English Inn and the biggest reason is that it is unique, quiet, and very scenic. Several…read moreof my children were married there and we were fortunate to rent the entire Inn to host the wedding couple, family and friends. When I need a sabbatical to write, this is where I go. It is my very safe place where everything is delicious and pleasant and evenings on the little porches with a glass of bourbon are the best for evening meditations. However, when recently I called to make a reservation, Joann kept telling me over and over again that every room was the same. When I tried to reply that I didn't feel that way as the decor, the view, the sound, being handicappable, etc. made each cottage unique. She consistently interrupted me to tell me all the rooms were the same even though I mentioned I had been there several times and have seen that they are not, delightful in their own way but she was not to be dissuaded. She couldn't tell me what the two rooms available even looked like. It's a shame that such a beautiful place has this kind of representation of its rooms and grounds when calling to book a room for a period of time. If I wanted a room that looked the same as all the others I could have called a chain hotel company at a considerably lower price point. Please don't sell this place short. The food is fabulous (I believe I have tried everything on the menu), the martinis are fabulous, the service was friendly, professional and yes, fabulous. Despite the attitude, I look forward to my next visit. I'm giving this a five star based on all my prior experiences NOT on the latest conversation when I booked my most recent stay. That was less than 1.

I just went there for our annual Sorority Christmas Dinner Party. The Holiday decor was very…read moreBeautiful. The Room that they put us 8 in again was sweet.., but they didn't light the Fireplace this Year & the Dinner table was set with a stark white Linen tablecloth - with nothing Festive on our table ... just flatware & napkin & water glasses. We all entertain a lot & noticed they didn't bother to make our table look inviting or Festive. The Staff is polite & friendly. However sadly... for the last 4 years I've not been served a decently cooked meal there. I tried their Duck this time hoping it would be good. It was not good. They served it with about 3 bites of some kinda veggie & a wee few bites of potato & what they called a serving of their Duck - which comprised of 2 tiny pieces. One inedible piece was the "dried up end" of what looked like part of the wing & the other piece was a very small 4x2 inch slice of Duck - which when cut was 3 small bites. Really? It was also the worst Dinner ever. I've tried a couple other items in their Menu & the 1 piece of my Chicken Breast Dinner was so dry I couldn't cut it - so I ate the sparsely served potatoes & dinner roll & side salad. Another time I ordered a medium cooked Prime Rib & was served a medium "bloody" rare - she took it back to the kitchen & they microwaved it. After everyone else was done eating - it was then served to me barely warm & it was an unappetizing grey colored - rubber piece of meat that also was so tough even the Waitress couldn't cut it. So I sent it back. Again... I had no Dinner - just a cup of French Onion soup & dinner roll & side salad... they still charged me for the Dinner even though I was not served any Prime Rib- weird. They are still being cheap & not placing a bread basket on the table - there's usually at least 8 of us & other years we've had 10 or 12 attend our Holiday Dinner. A Waitstaff person walks around the table & places 1 small dinner roll on each of our plates. We've all ordered Cocktails & always have had a long wait for our Dinners to be served - so a nicely filled Bread Basket or tray of complimentary relishes - would be nice while we enjoy our drinks & visit. It wouldn't be that expensive to offer considering the meals are over-priced. The Desserts were ordered by all of us & were tasty but very tiny servings for the price. The bathrooms were clean this year so that was nice. I really do wish the food was better cooked & had more substance because it looks like we're going to be there next Year... as traditionally the majority of the Sorority Chapter chooses to go there for the ambiance - which is lovely. The pretty Bar area downstairs is cozy but small & I heard the Bar food in there is good. The English Inn is sadly still NOT handicapped accessible & the food is usually not hot as they have to walk down a flight & a half of stairs to get to the room we're dining in downstairs . An Elevator would be a perfect addition & such a nice Amenity for the Guests to have to use while staying & dining at the English Inn.
