I just had a great meal here. I had the mortadella sandwich. I was apprehensive because a few of the reviews mentioned a small amount of meat on the sandwich. I can tell you they were wrong. The sandwich contained a great portion of meat. You can see from my photos that it was a substantial portion of meat. The meat itself was tender as can be and was good Italian mortadella that almost melts in your mouth. It also had excellent pesto sauce on the sandwich and some of the best cheese around. I just got back from 2 months in Italy and this sandwich was as good as anything I had there. While I was there I had to try one of everything so for pastry I tried a sfogliata which is a multi layered pastry filled with a vanilla custard. This was either brought in directly from Italy or made by an Italian chef. It tasted just like it should. Then I tried the gelato. I had the stracciatella which was very good. Just two notes here though 1) the gelato temp is too cold. You need to let it warm a little before you eat it to get the full flavor 2) the pistacchio gelato served is bright green. This is not a sign of good pistacchio. Good pistacchio should be more of a khaki brownish green color Then I tried the espresso. It tasted great It was very nice inside. Simple setup looking like a gelateria. The service was friendly , fast , and efficient. The best that can be asked for. The highlight of the visit was actually running into Mr. Gio DiPalma that owns the establishment and other restaurants around town. He sat at a table and watched operations. While this sandwich admittedly was very expensive (over $20 with tax), it was definitely delicious. And it was a healthy/large serving size. The Panini bread with some of the best I've had in a long time... soft, yet crispy-ish on the outside. Everything about the sandwich was fantastic with one exception: there was a slightly fishy taste on some bites. Needless to say, with the only ingredients being fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, prosciutto, and arugula, not sure where the fishy taste came from. The shop is average looking. I did not eat the gelato, but it looked very good. Service was efficient, but not overly friendly or personable. Person at the counter was more of an order taker, but there were no social greetings exchanged. If you're looking for a place that is going to serve you food that is nearly identical to Italian sub and pizza (maybe even better) then THIS IS THE PLACE. Mind you, I recently came back from Italy just a few months ago and I absolutely loved my Italian panini. This place is VERY flavorful and has plenty of options that your taste buds will appreciate! They serve also serve pizzas, pastries and gelato which really brings you the full experience of an Italian shop. The only piece of feedback I'd give is the sandwich was slightly salty, however, it wasn't too slaty to where it was unbearable. But, definitely come hydrated in advance! This shop is located in the parking plaza so there was plenty of parking, however, the plaza can get a little busy at times. I have never been so sad that my wife and I split a sandwich more in my life. it was so good. the bread unbelievably good with a crunch. there are many sandwich options and pizza options. the pizza looked amazing too. this place is busy. self serve seating, great staff, great atmosphere. no substitutions with I like. I think the have a variety of bakery goods too but I think we were late for the most choices. Gelato too but we didn't try it. My expectations were set too high from social media. Pala is a part of the Antico "brand" family, and we love Antico Pizza, so I assumed I was going to love Pala. The concept of the shop is cute. Long story short, I was underwhelmed. The portion of meat and cheese for the price point is arguable. Because it was our first time, did not know that we should have asked for lighter toast. I was very excited about trying the sandwiches here. I had seen several people on TikTok talk about how good they were. So I went with my mom. I will say the customer service was lacking. We walked inside and looked at the menu and the girl at the register. Just kind of stared at us. Didn't speak didn't offer any suggestions. We were looking at the menu for a little bit, so just try to figure out what we want. A big note that I saw is that you cannot do any substitutions. But you can do add-ons at an additional fee. I kinda hate that because there's certain things I just don't eat and would've liked to put on my sandwich instead of the thing I took off. So let's get down to the sandwiches. We got the mortadella which had the multi level meat, cheese, and pesto on it and the Firenze which had salami, cheese and Dijon mustard. Both sandwiches cost $15.45 each. I just knew the sandwich was gonna have so much meat on it because it's a $15 sandwich. I was very disappointed when we got our sandwiches to see how thin they were. Hardly any meat on it. It lacked maybe having some olive oil on the bread for moisture. Very dry I will say. The only thing that say, the mortadella sandwich for me is the pesto. The pesto was really good, but I did not like the Dijon mustard on the other sandwich. It just didn't seem to go well together. I definitely don't think I would come back. My husband had the Italian Ham, layered with mustard ham, mozzarella, and tomato. Both were outstanding! Don't miss the cannoli, we had ours with chocolate chips, and it was the perfect choice. If you don't see them in the dessert case, ask -- they'll make them fresh to order. The bakery is in a shopping plaza with plenty of free parking. Inside, seating is limited, so we ordered to-go. The wait was about 10 minutes, which isn't bad at all. I loved being able to watch the prep area behind the counter, it felt like watching the magic happen. Service was friendly and welcoming. I ran to Pala Bakery after a recent video on social media regarding their Italian sandwiches blew up! They are an Italian bakery specializing in desserts as well as sandwiches and pizzas! The outside looks very unsuspecting and it is rather small inside (a few tables here and there along with outside seating), but trust me this is a good eatery! The service was quick and friendly as well. I got the Prosciutto Panini but asked for the tomato and arugula on the side (I do not like vegetables that much, haha). The 18 month old aged prosciutto was savory and the mozzarella was fresh! I love getting bread service at Italian restaurants so being able to eat the prosciutto and mozzarella in sandwich form is amazing. The focaccia bread is so crispy and really makes the sandwich in my opinion. I think the panini would have tasted amazing if I added pesto to it, but I still really enjoyed it. I definitely would come back to try their other sandwiches and pizzas! I love the flavors of the Prosciutto Panini so I am certain that the other dishes would taste just as delicious too. We stopped by here after the history center down the road to check this place out and ended up just getting gelato The sandwiches look good in the pics but ~$20 each, I couldnt bring myself to do it So I got 2 scoops of gelato for us to share and it was a good serving size for 2 but it was $8.44 before tip so I'll probably stick with anticos although I'm glad I tried this one! If I have to pick between a sandwich and the pizza I'm going to go for the sandwich, but the pizzas are just as good! Such a cute little place, love the vibe. This was a walk by, and I went in looking for Italian deli. They had panini. I ordered Mortadella and it had ricotta and basil pesto. It's the first time I've actually tasted Italy here in GA. I have been meaning to visit this cute little shop. Decided to stop in today. Seeing that I can't have milk. I take my sorbets very seriously. Pala has a one taste policy. As they stated "make that one taste last" (¬_¬ ). The sorbet choices where lemon, mango, mixed berries and I believe it was one more, but I can't recall what flavor it was. But my all time favorite is lemon then mango. So, I tried lemon first and I was a bit unhappy with the lack of lemon flavor. So, I went for mango. Once again I wasn't pleased with the flavor. The sorbet was really sweet with very little flavor of the fruit. Now, I have had some very good sorbets. Heck, I've even had some store bought sorbets that was extremely good. Pala sorbet missed the mark for me. The lemon didn't have any lemon zest or just a little lemon twang. The mango didn't have any not even a bit of mango fruity flavor but really sweet. That's all I tasted was sugar (sweetness). Now, they also have pizza and other Italian choices. Maybe I'll try the food menu. But I can say I won't be back for the sorbet. read more

I was only 2-3 bites in before I noticed it. I ordered the meatball parm but wasn't able to finish it after that. The few bites I had were delicious, though. I didn't go back to complain because we'd already spent several minutes waiting in line (which spilled out onto the curb bc it's small inside) and I didn't have the patience to do that again. I'm kicking myself for all the years I've lived in Atlanta without knowing Pala existed. I've driven into this complex dozens of times without seeing it, and it wasn't until a coworker randomly suggested it as a lunch spot that I discovered the magic of Pala's paninis. The sandwiches might seem pricey, but they're also quite sizable, like a small brick in the hand. It's hard to know what makes it so fantastic. Is it the bread, baked crunchy and brushed with a healthy dose of good olive oil? Is it the fresh mozzarella and imported ingredients? Whatever sorcery they're employing here, it's working because my colleagues were texting each other later that afternoon, collectively reminiscing on our lunch. There are other things, like pizza and gelato. I tried the latter, and found myself moaning almost inappropriately with each creamy bite. I'd recommend the strawberry and pistachio are a particularly powerful combination, but they're generous with samples here so you're welcome to scribe your own happy dessert. On another note, the owner is more than half the charm of the place. Giovanni Di Palma, who is also the owner of Antico Pizza, is a friendly and familiar presence here. He took the time to come outside and check on our group during our first visit as we (wolfishly) downed our panini, wanting to make sure everything turned out all right. "Did everything come out all right?" he pressed when we gave him a round of thumbs up. "Food's gotta' be emotional, y'know?" He was also there later that same night when I dragged my husband out to taste these magical sandwiches. Giovanni brought out my sandwich personally when it was done. "I had to make it twice," he explained apologetically. "The first time, the bread soaked up all the sauce so I made it again with a different kind of roll. It's gotta' be emotional! Try it and let me know how you like it." How can you not respect and adore a guy so passionate about food that he'd take the time to remake it until it turned out right? The meatball parm was perfect - with thick slabs of well-seasoned meatballs between warm, crusty bread, covered with just enough sauce and mozzarella that my eyes rolled with the first bite. When Giovanni came back a minute later to check on me, I knew exactly how to answer. "It's emotional." Since there are a number of restaurants within this complex (not to mention a Publix), parking can be a bit of a pain at certain points of the day. I wish I had more complimentary words for Pala. There is nothing wrong with the food, but the rude, unfriendly, and entitled behavior of the staff is the worst I have experienced in Atlanta. I work a couple of miles away, and I've had MULTIPLE experiences when the store closed early. Once, the door was locked during business hours, and twice when I went into the store within an hour of closing time, they told me they couldn't make sandwiches (there were sliced tomatoes and bread in plain sight) and they were only selling baked goods, as if I really wanted a doughnut at 7 pm. The online ordering function was down for months, so your only option was to go inside and hope they would deign to offer service during operating hours. And all 4 times I made it inside the door, I was the only person there (twice I left with no food). Only once was I able to order myself, the other time my wife had to call in advance and I merely picked it up. Clearly, all the locals within a massively populated radius know better than to try to get food from Pala in the evening, so I really hope they treat people better during the lunch rush. read more

We asked for a piece of cheese or some shredded cheese and were told "we don't do that". We said " hey he's a year old and we just bought a bunch of food and I am happy to buy some cheese?" Were told "we don't sell our ingredients". Won't be back. Other places are happy to sell us a piece of cheese or give us a small bowl of shredded. I will say that the location kind of sucks, the tables and not clean and there were flies in the restaurant): also really dislike how you cannot make any changes. Kind of sucks and I probably won't be back. I'm changing this from a 4 to 3 star review as I write this. 1 star off for the flies and one star off for not allowing any changes.
