I came here recently for the 2-hour beginner weaving session. I had never woven before but have…read morealways wanted to try it. There were two instructors who would show the students individually or in small groups the basic steps. Most of us there were making small tapestries, but a few people were focusing on other projects (ex.: pillow cases). It was a really fun experience. Unfortunately, the heat wasn't working in the studio, so it was quite uncomfortable, especially since we needed to have our shoes off to use the looms!

When you walk into the studio, you have to take off your shoes. It is minimalist brightly lit studio, with a wall of the most colorful yarn. It was literally my dream wall. The ambiance is so calming, I didn't want to leave. Our instructor Allie was amazing and so helpful. There were several looms in the room. She showed us how to use the loom, which has a preset already for the intro class, and she showed us some techniques to create different designs. Allie was very accomodating and so sweet. It was pretty easy to get the hang of it, and once I started I didn't want to stop haha. Once I got the hang of it, I was so immersed into the flow of using the loom. It was extremely therapeutic and meditative. I felt like a kid in a candy store choosing what color/texture yarn or other textured fibers to add to my tapestry. The two hours flew by, but I paid a little extra to stay a bit longer. It was worth it. I was happy to be able to take my piece home. 100% want to do it again. They offer many classes. I'm looking forward to taking the advanced classes in the future where you can learn even more techniques. It was so amazing and I loved it so much. I can't wait to come back again!

About 11 women and myself descended upon this place to make stuff with wood, while snacking on cheese and sangria. Now I know what you're thinking...you're making something...out of wood? I was thinking the same thing. Buuuuuttt I was pleasantly surprised. 1. The women that worked here and guided us were amazeballs. To wrangle our group of chatty cathies is hard to do but they did. Whenever we needed guidance on a paint color, technique, which way to sand etc...they were right there with a smile. 2. The amount of projects to chose from is extensive. You had porch signs, picture holders, lazy Susan's, and a wood circle thing (mine...lol). It could be super simple with 1 or 2 words or a bold pattern like mine 3. The shop itself is beautiful!!! I loved everything... unwanted to move into the bathroom. The apron holders were hammers... just super creative. Whoever designed the store...please come to my house and work your magic. I loved the entire experience...I plan on going back to make the chunky blanket. I may even come back to this location because the women were awesome.

This AR Workshop had just opened only a few blocks away from my house and I was excited to go try…read moreit out with my mom and a few of her friends. I've always loved painting and have never done wood-work before. Salina was so nice in helping us set up our Friday night event and made sure we knew what to expect going into it. We were even able to bring our own drinks and snacks! Although not to worry, they do have some for purchase as well. We each picked our projects ahead of time ranging in price from $55-$85. I was a bit taken back by the price but I promise you it was worth it. For 3 hours we were assisted with our projects from start to finish. Mackenzie was wonderful in explaining all of our design options in terms of staining, painting, choosing colors, sanding our wood, stenciling.... pretty much the whole nine yards. The other girls helping out needed a bit more training/experience in my opinion. While my project was definitely more difficult than I had expected, I had a blast and was in love with the final product. You are able to customize your design to make it your own and I really could not wait to hang up my piece in my apartment. Since the class I have already looked up projects that I want to make in the future and can't wait to do so!

I've wanted to visit the Shiny Sparkle Lab ever since I saw them on a local news highlight. We…read moredon't have enough of these unique creative hubs in our city, so this place is really a gem. I've done glass fusing in the past and loved it, so I decided to finally visit and take a class that focused on making either a Charcuterie board or coaster set. I took the class as part of my birthday weekend on 2/10. It is usually $124 however, I received 30% due to an advertised deal on their site (code sp30). I traveled by train from the Bronx to get here and was very excited however, my experience wasn't as exciting as I anticipated. Unfortunately when I arrived, I got lost. I walked back and forth trying to find the space and even asked around, but no one had heard of it. I looked online trying to find a phone number and to my luck, there is none. After walking around for 15 minutes, I finally found it. The door/entrance has a small sign with their name on it. Maybe it's just me, but they need a better indicator. The business is located on the upper level of what seems to be an executive park of some sort. Meaning, one building with multiple businesses inside or around the premises. The building itself looks like its under heavy construction. I would never have imagined that any sort of classes were being conducted there. Nonetheless, I made it just in time as the instructor, Dorie, seemed to have just began. She gave a great overview of glass fusing techniques and offered tips on making our piece as great as possible. Her directions were also very clear and concise. Once she was done, we were directed to begin our masterpieces. There were 12 students including myself. We were placed at a large table where all of the materials were laid out for us. Each person had a section or workstation at the table to work from. In addition to the wonderful layout, we were offered some delicious bites of charcuterie treats, wine, and water. I took an apron and got to work. The entire class was about 3 hours. We were offered a sheet of paper to sketch out our design. I did not like this nor did I expect it. I was under the impression that we'd do a predetermined design. Sort of like when you participate in a Paint and Sip class. I am not a creative person, so it takes me a long time to figure out a design from scratch. Nonetheless, I came up with something that I thought would be lovely. As mentioned, the table is filled with a variety of materials to create your masterpiece. Unfortunately, a lot of the glass pieces come from larger pieces that seemed to have been cut previously. Many of the pieces were cut unevenly or in various shapes so it felt like I was putting a puzzle together. I had to find pieces that fit into one another as best as possible to make some parts of my design cohesive. My design was somewhat abstract. I focused a lot on various sized boxes and lines. It was difficult to do this with broken pieces because I ended up having to cut them more to make them into squares or find multiple pieces of the desired color to make it as close to a square as possible. In my past experience with glass fusing, they offered pre-cut squares and full glass sheets for me to work with, which made it alot easier. In the end, I ended up staying behind to finish my piece because I just could not find enough cohesive pieces to fill the plate. Honestly, I just threw whatever on it to make it complete because I was tired of it. Despite my lack of creative frustration, the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Whenever I needed help or guidance, they were only steps away to assist. In addition, they were so patient with me as I remained behind to finish while others left. Once complete, they took my name and placed it aside to be fired up. I received an email that it was ready for pick up and stopped by accordingly. Overall, I'm not in love with the finished piece but I'm content with the experience. I think I would've enjoyed it more if I had some direction for the design or more pieces that didn't require as much work. The person working next to me also experienced a creativity block and was worried about the time, so I know it's not just me who may have felt uneasy. I don't think I would return only because of the distance. Otherwise, I would give it another try. I also would recommend to others. It's a nice time for friends or a couple to connect and enjoy themselves.

They still gave me a ticket but found the process very frustrating. When going up i got seats in The front bevause i had arrived a few minutes late but it was not a problem. Last month I went to Foxy Production to see a show by Michael Wang. I had read some of the articles…read morehe wrote for Artforum and other art magazines and he seemed like a smart and cool guy so I was curious to see his art. The show was called "Carbon Copies" and it was a series of sculptures. Each sculpture was made out of carbon and its dimensions were determined by the amount of CO2 that was emitted to create a certain artwork, the appearance of which was reflected by details in the sculpture. So, one of the big ones was based on Richard Serra Torqued Ellipse and it was a cube with a torqued ellipse cut out of the middle. I thought it was a great show. It combined two kinds of work that are super boring--art about art, art about environmental issues--and made a really interesting, good-looking show. Quite an achievement! When I looked at the checklist I saw the prices of the sculptures were in the low three figures, with a couple under $100. This was really exciting for me because I always go to Chelsea without expecting to see any art I can actually afford. I wanted to buy one of Michael Wang's sculptures! I asked if any were still available. The dealer said no--the whole series had been sold together as an installation, and the objects were never meant to be sold separately anyway. They were priced that way conceptually--each price is fixed at 1 dollar per 1.1 negative tons of carbon offset. Not sure exactly what that means, but in any case, the experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. If that's the way the prices work, maybe they could be written with pen and ink on some nice paper and hung on the wall, so people would get that it's part of the installation. That way the gallery wouldn't confuse or let anyone down. Just a suggestion. I was going to give Foxy Production three and a half stars but I guess there's no way to award a half star. So only three.

I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening for the Third Eye Healing Lounge. Needless to…read moresay, I was impressed and excited as soon as I walked in. The vibe is welcoming and warm and gives you a sense of peace and calmness. The owner is very knowledgeable and took her time explaining the benefits of all of the blended herbs for the tea. As I waited for her to blend and brew my custom tea, I was able to sample a variety of teas and receive a massage as my sons (ages 6 and 8) painted. She has something for all ages! I look forward to returning for some more tea and hosting future events with friends in the future.
