Upon entry we received such a warm welcome from Chef Armando. The all-inclusive beverages and complimentary charcuterie were a really nice touch to start the evening, especially if you arrive hungry like I did. We started by learning how to make Chicken Marsala, then moved into pasta making (my favorite part). After that, we learned how to make fresh mozzarella, and finally ended the night with dessert: tiramisu. The entire experience was so fun and interactive. I especially appreciated how knowledgeable Chef Alex was about everything we were making. When I asked about the type of pan she was using and why, she gave such a detailed and thoughtful explanation, which I really appreciated. By then, we had definitely worked up an appetite! We started dinner with a delicious salad and focaccia bread, followed by pesto fettuccine made from the pasta we created ourselves. Then came Chicken Marsala with mushrooms, and ricotta-stuffed ravioli in red sauce, also handmade by us. One of the best parts of the night was the atmosphere. Cooking, eating, and learning alongside people you've never met before somehow felt so natural and welcoming. You genuinely leave feeling like you made new friends. If I had one honest critique, I do wish there had been more opportunity to personally season some of the dishes to taste, as I felt parts of the meal were a little bland for my preference. I also personally prefer softer pasta over a firmer al dente texture. That said, I completely understood why the pasta had that texture since we didn't have much time for the dough to fully rest and develop. I also think some light Italian jazz music playing in the background would have elevated the atmosphere even more and really taken the experience to another level. Overall, I had a wonderful time and would absolutely take another class. It's definitely worth it for the experience, the knowledge you gain, and of course... dinner! We've done a few cooking classes together, but this was the first time every dish was made dairy-free just for my boyfriend. He's never been that into italian food... until now :') We joined Selfup's Italian Cooking Class to celebrate his birthday, and it was literally the first time I've heard him say he actually enjoyed a cooking class. He's lactose intolerant, and they accommodated his dietary needs in every single course. Yes, even the tiramisu! Big shoutout to Chef Danny, Chef Monica, and Chef Edgar. What we made in 3 hours: ＊Hand-Stretched Mozzarella Cheese First time making mozzarella from scratch! It tasted so fresh and we could adjust the salt to our preference. We even had a mini competition to see who could stretch their cheese the highest. ＊Handmade Fettuccine and Ravioli I was most excited to try the fancy pasta machine. We mixed and kneaded the dough from scratch, then rolled out the fettuccine and assembled ravioli with a vegan pesto-tofu filling. So satisfying to watch it all come together. ＊Marsala Chicken The class kicked off with a live demo where we learned real culinary techniques, like how to properly cut and sear veggies and build flavor. My boyfriend even got to light the pan on fire (safely), which definitely made his night. ＊Tiramisu I was actually amazed by how delicious and coffee-forward the tiramisu was! They substituted mascarpone with coconut-based whipped cream for him so we could both enjoy the dessert. We could even pack up the leftovers at the end, so nothing went to waste! read more

This was an amazing experience! My partner and I sign up to celebrate our anniversary in a fun and engaging way - and this class delivered on that and more. It was very enjoyable to take the class with other couples and parties - we enjoyed the conversations and entertainment throughout. Upon arrival, we were offered an apron, white, red, rose wine, non-alcoholic beverages, water, appetizers (cheese, meet, cracker). Having there to snack on before we started making the food was very thoughtful- especially because we came with an appetite. Overall amazing experience! Loved how personable it was as a whole guided group experience. I wished it would've been a smaller group overall or divided up into smaller groups to be able to make the food with only your partner or just one other group as it did get kind of crowded. However overall was amazing funny and interesting experience to try a cooking class at least once. My favorite was the tiramisu that we made. I also loved the chicken and mushrooms. SO MUCH FUN! We were blessed to have chef Paige as our fearless leader and she was an absolute blast, and with a pretty big group of us (20ish) she made sure to pay attention to all of us individually throughout the process. We did the Italian class, making homemade mozzarella, ravioli, tiramisu and chicken Marsala and each course was better than the last. The class was the perfect mix of hands on experience, learning from the chef, and drinking wine lol. We ended up being there for over 3 hours in total but it flew by. I would say don't show up starving because we didn't end up eating until around 8:30/9 pm, but they give you crackers, cheese and meats to snack on. Making the tiramisu was my favorite part, but happy to say I actually look home some very helpful knife skills and general cooking knowledge! My friend and I took the Italian dinner class with Chef Paige and her staff member Ashley. It was a blast! The class was intimate at 6 students and I personally would not have preferred more than that. Staples of cooking basics were taught to start the class, followed by various recipes and pasta from scratch! For reference, my husband and I are frequent and passionate cooks in our home. Went to the Italian cooking class with my friend taught by Chef Danny and it was a blast! Lots of food, hands-on experience (for pasta and mozzarella making), unlimited wine and an engaging teacher! Menu rundown: Spring mix salad with mozzarella balls - loved the educational experience of learning how mozzarella is made and getting to shape the little balls by hand! Ricotta filled ravioli with red sauce and pesto fettuccine - making the pasta by hand and filling the raviolis was so fun! I wish we could have made the sauces too but I understand the time constraints. Chicken Marsala - this was more of an educational demonstration. I learned a lot but wish it was more hands on. Tiramisu - everyone made their own little cups. Super easy and delicious! I was sad to hear that this was Chef Danny's last class since he was going to work at a restaurant since I feel like his passion and enthusiasm made the class really fun. This is a great group activity for friends and colleagues. We had chef Jenny and chef Edgar, who were both great. On a Friday night for the Italian cooking class, there were 2 tables with 6 at each table. When you come in, they have snacks of cheese and salami boards, wine (rose and white), carbonated drinks and water. They give about 15 minutes after start time for everyone to arrive, so arriving 5-10 minutes earlier gives you a good lead time to settle in and enjoy the snacks. There were five items to make that were hands-on for the dinner - 2 types of pastas, mozzarella balls for salad, mushroom masala demo with some stirring and lighting fire, plus tiramisu for dessert. They give you a break in between sets so you can refresh with drinks and snacks. They have two restrooms and sinks in the kitchen to wash your hands. It starts with the masala mushroom, which is for the chicken masala (the group doesn't make the chicken, but we get to eat it). Then we go on to make the other ingredients for the dishes. There were two tables to work on, about 6 people per table. We make the pastas for the ravioli and the fettuccine. The dough is pre-made for us. We rolled the dough and put it through the Kitchen Aid machine that flattens the dough and also cuts it into fettuccine. We make mozzarella balls with the pre-made cheese curd. It goes into hot water and gets pulled and shaped into mini-balls with the thumb (it's not so easy to make perfect balls though). We make the ravioli by adding the pre-made pesto ricotta filling on the flattened dough we made. Then we cut it into ravioli pieces. It's not all going to come out the same size perfectly squared shapes, but they all still taste delicious. My favorite activity is making the tiramisu. You make and eat your own tiramisu cup, so you can make it the way you like it. They have good coffee ground and delicious dark chocolate to shave on the tiramisu. They also have white chocolate. Really good and fresh ingredients. Everyone makes the hands-on items and it all goes together for the chef to cook and serve family style to the two tables. The chefs are pretty impressive to have the pastas all cooked and everything ready to serve in about 15 minutes. I didn't even notice when they cooked the chicken. The hands-on part was about 90 minutes with breaks. That leaves about a little over an hour to enjoy the dinner. It's not a hard set time, so after eating, you can leave earlier. Just say goodbye to the chefs so they know you are leaving and also leave a tip in the tip jar or Venmo. The food all tasted fresh and delicious. The salad with the mozzarella balls were a good starter. The raviolis were so good. My favorite dish and it's sorta vegetarian (might have meat juice from the cheese). The chicken masala was very flavorful. The pesto fettuccine was good on its own. The tiramisu was delicious to end with. They have additional full body red wine on the tables too. I can see this being a really great activity for your own group of six for some fun light cooking class and dinner gathering, especially after a long work day. This NYC location is on the 3rd floor in a building in the Financial District by Wall Street near the Bull statue. The kitchen is phenomenal and huge. They also have a Boston location and I believe eventually expanding to other cities. I got this wonderful experience with a gift card. Thank you! What a great delicious gift! The Sunday night Italian pasta making private event was so much fun and they made it so interactive- they actually made everyone feel included and took the time to explain everything and crack jokes as well. We learned so many new things, didn't matter if we had experience with cooking or not. They were just so welcoming overall. Definitely want to attend another class out side of a private event. I had a great time at the Italian night making fresh pasta and my own tiramisu. To my surprise, we were offered wine/soft drinks and a small appetizer upon entry. After that we put together the tiramisu to set in the fridge until desert time. Chef Paige led the rest of the night with funny tidbits and a helpful hand. I suggested this class as a team-building activity, and we had such a genuinely wonderful time. The dishes we learned to make were fun, flavorful, and covered a nice range -- from pancakes and waffles to fried chicken and eggs Benedict (which ended up being my favorite -- that hollandaise was unreal!). What I appreciated most was how we worked on everything together, taking turns with different tasks. It felt easy, collaborative, and naturally led to great conversations and shared laughs with the team. The true highlight, though, was our instructor, Chef Paige. For a girl that's never made pasta from scratch - I was happy to start this journey. There's an art to comfort food and to taste the freshness of it was a treat. That's what my experience here at Selfup was in the NYC branch. A big shoutout to Chef Danny and Vergine for the great cooking warmup and recommendation. This place breaks everything down so simply, keeps the humor and vibes lighthearted, and makes sure you tackle every main points of the cuisine from the class. My friend and I had fun from chilling the sweet cream and blends of our tiramisu, stretching and pulling the mozzarella to form those squishy orbs, flattening the pasta sheets into lengthy ribbons, shredding the pasta sheets into equidistant noodle strands, folding the ravioli and stuffing in the squares, and finally getting a chance to flambe the caramelized onions for the chicken marsala. The winning moment was tasting everything we prepped and freshly prepped Italian food tastes a whole new level versus the frozen packaged goods we use to prep at home. Similar to going from instant coffee to brewing a fresh Moka pot of coffee. Obsessed with coffee analogies so don't mind me. If you ever experienced first pasta stage fright, do not fear. By far one of the most fun nights I've had in awhile. This was my first time taking a cooking class and it far exceeded my expectations. I signed up for the Classic Italian Dinner with Tiramisu finale and from start to finish chef Alex, chef Marco, and Chef Monica were class acts. I loved that when we arrived that had wine and charcuterie ready to go. It was also nice how seating is family style and basically encourages getting to know the other class goers. Chef Alex had a great story at every stage of cooking instruction which made the class more fun and engaging. I went for a date night but this class is good for families, friend groups, or solo fun. The cheese, charcuterie and wine to snack on throughout the class helped since you don't really eat till the tail end of the 3 hour class. One star docked for the timing of the class. We had a 5pm class and arrived at 4:50. We didn't start the whole process until 5:45 because apparently the chefs didn't know till day of that they had 22 people in class and expected only 8 so they were behind in prep. Seemed more so an organizational issue than anyone's fault but was frustrating for those of us who arrived on time and were stuck waiting and then of course we ended class 40 min late as well. read more

As a food and nutrition professional, this experience spoke to my heart in a fun and unique way. In the past, I have taken baking classes or led my own cooking demonstrations, but never attended an full cooking class. So when a representative from Selfup reached out with a opportunity to attend, I could not pass it up. I decided to make it even more exciting by inviting a friend to attend with me for their Friday evening, 'Italian Dinner with Tiramisu Finale' class. This seems to be their most popular but they have a wealth of classes from a variety of cuisines. From Mexican flavors to Parisian delights, there is truly a class for all taste buds. I simply signed up on their site about a month ahead and received confirmation instantly. Unfortunately on the day of the class, my plus one had to cancel but I still decided to go anyway. I arrived about 20 minutes early however, I was still allowed in. Chef Edgar was setting up and warmly greeted me. There was a Mexican fiesta class finishing up, so I was directed to get comfy and have some refreshments including wine, sodas, and water along with charcuterie meats and cheeses. A little bit later, I had some fresh bread (I think it was focaccia) with a delicious chimichurri sauce (I mean delectable because I even asked for recipe *yum*). We waited for others to come and it eventually ended up being a class of 4 people (including myself). The other 3 people were a group and they too, had a cancellation but it worked out perfectly as we all got to know each other and it allowed for a more intimate experience. The class was led by the amazing, Chef Danny. He greeted us and gave us a a full run down of what the experience would entail. Essentially, we would prepare items for a 6 course meal. We washed our hands and began the fun with tiramisu. Chef Danny gave us some background information on the ingredients including the significance of the espresso and marscapone. I had never had marscapone before and he welcomed my interest by offering a tasting. Soon after, he demonstrated how we'd make individual batches in clear cups, sort of like a parfait. We made our tiramisu and chef Edgar, who was assisting, took them away. The class continued with more dishes and increasing levels of technical skills. Among many things, we learned about the process of creating mozzarella cheese and had a chance to stretch some out. Later on we made spaghetti and ravioli from scratch, and we saw a cooking demonstration of chicken marsala led by Chef Danny with assistance from one of the participants. In the end, we created items that would become part of our 6 course meal. The meal is served family style and Chef Danny turned the items we prepared into dishes. We started off with a fresh green salad with housemade vinaigrette dressing and topped with our freshly stretched mozzarella. Next, we had cheese ravioli in a tomato sauce, pesto spaghetti, and the chicken marsala, then ended the night with our tiramisu. Of all the items, I'd say my favorite was the pesto spaghetti and the chicken marsala. The pesto spaghetti had a nice buttery/saltiness that I particularly loved. The freshness was also evident. Additionally, the chicken marsala was beautifully glazed with a balance of flavors. Aside from cooking and eating, I enjoyed the knowledge that chef Danny shared. I not only learned new information and techniques but I also built on some of my skills. It's very evident that he is passionate about his craft and he seems to genuinely enjoy sharing his knowledge. Overall, I had a wonderful time. In addition to Chef Danny's great service, the other staff members were equally as kind, attentive, and personable. No matter who I encountered, they were very pleasant. In addition, the establishment was modern, clean, and comfortable to move around in. I would definitely return to Selfup in the future and I highly recommend it for others. It's a versatile offering for team building, friends, or a unique date night.
