On the menu was Haitian soup, Trinidadian Doubles, Dominican rice and beans and Jerk Chicken. The chef was warm and kind and very thorough. She gave us the option off adding heat with a scotch bonnet pepper and showed us a couple of knife techniques to make cutting vegetables easier. We were supplied with aprons and name tags and worked in teams and chatted while chopping, seasoning and cooking. I appreciated the ice water and stools available to ensure I was comfortable for those hours of class. The food came out amazing and flavorful and there was plenty leftover to take home. Its great for a date night or friend group activity or even just solo bc everyone became so friendly.

Chef Sue was both personable and informative, and her demos were easy to follow along with the written recipes. During times when food was cooking or cooling, Sue also showed us some knife skills basics/tricks. The class went on for about 3 hours, including the time to eat at the end. I really enjoyed the experience, but in the future would choose a class with a more substantial output. The Latkes and Sufganiyot were both fried carbs, and we ended up grabbing dinner immediately after because we were still hungry for a real meal. Other than that, would recommend!

Learned a lot, had fun, and enjoyed delicious food!…read more My wife and I attended Thai Food cooking class at HCNY on Jan 25, 2024. The group was small, just 6 people, so we got almost a private class. Entire class was well planned and organized. Each of us got some hands-on stuff to do, we asked questions, took notes, enjoyed our meal, yet we ran exactly on time. John provided a lot of information not just on specific dishes we cooked, but also on Thai cuisine fundamentals, ingredients, and main tastes. He also shared some cool cooking tips we found useful though we are not cooking beginners. We ended up with a plentiful freshly made Thai dinner consisting of Tom Yum soup with Shrimp, Fried Fish in Tamarind sauce, Thai Red Curry Chicken, and sticky rice. All the dishes came out delicious and tasted like in a Thai restaurant! And most important we've successfully reproduced these dishes at home one week later! Thank you John, and The HCNY Crew for the great experience! We highly recommend Home Cooking NY to all who likes and learns to cook!

We had an incredible experience with Shandra! My mother is vegetarian and most cooking classes don't cater to that. But this class left us full and happy! My mom really connected with her too. This was truly the most unique culinary and cultural experience that I've ever done!…read more I ventured to Borough Park to attend the Uzbek immersion workshop with Damira. She and her husband warmly welcomed us into their home and led us to a beautifully decorated table of what was described as a "welcome snack," but was actually a delicious feast in itself. There was Uzbek dried fruits, nuts, both sweet and savory pastries, and hot green tea. I loved the Uzbek raisins, which are bigger and juicier and just better than any raisins I've ever had! As we ate, Damira shared photos and stories of her family's life in Samarkand, an ancient city in Uzbekistan that lies on the silk road. Once we were all well-acquainted and nourished, we headed to the kitchen to cook the main feast. On the menu were homemade individual breads, spinach stuffed pastries, a spring cabbage salad, a cucumber potato salad, and a lamb stew. Damira was such a great teacher, demonstrating techniques before having us actively participate in the prep, cooking, and serving of each dish. She timed everything perfectly so that we had breaks and ate basically the entire afternoon, while continuing to engage us in stories of her home and culture. When we sat down for the final meal, the delicious food was somehow made even better from the meaningful connection we all shared while cooking it. The four and a half hour class flew by and while I didn't want to leave, I was very happy when we were each sent home with enough leftovers to last another two meals.

We made the dough, then rolled out different types of pasta and cooked. Marco was really knowledgeable about Italian cooking and he shared with us a history of pasta in Italy before we started. This is a class that serves primarily as a great social activity - but you will learn cooking skills as well. Keep that in mind when booking a class. I'm definitely looking forward to trying more classes. I also heard they've started doing mixology classes seems awesome! Those who like cooking will be thrilled with a night at Susi's home, but others who are happier socializing and eating (like myself) will be just as satisfied. As soon as we arrived Susi handed each of us a personalized apron (probably the only thing that I'll ever see Chef Andrea on), told us to tie our hair back (I appreciate a hairless kitchen) and directed us towards delish apps and wine. But the night got even better... We were split into groups and I was placed into the capable hands of Chef Charmaine. My group was in charge of the upside down strawberry cake. Yum- I hope there'd be batter testing involved!! Charmaine gave each of us a job (mine was to crack eggs). We chatted and drank wine while we baked so it was actually fun. I may have given her a slight heart attack when I dumped the vinegar into the batter way earlier than necessary, but for the most part Charmaine made sure the others would be able to enjoy our cake. By the time I was over cracking eggs, stirring batter (and yes, even taste testing) it was time to sit down for a 5 star meal of gazpacho, flatbread, salmon, quinoa and the cake. I wasn't a huge fan of the salmon, but it was probably just me because it quickly disappeared from everyone else's plates. Everything else was absolutely incredible. I love that Susi hosts these dinner parties right out of her cozy home and if I had a kitchen that gorgeous I may even consider cooking. Maybe.

While one group was cooking in the kitchen along side professional chefs the other group was being entertained in the dining area with some kitchen/cooking trivia which was loads of fun. The dining area is relatively small so I'm not certain what the capacity limit is for an event hosted by this company but my guess would be a cooking event by this company is probably limited to a group of about 50 at a time. Larger companies probably would have to break into two separate time slots (but of course only they can answer that question). The kitchen was very clean and we used quality pots, bowls and culinary products and it was apparent when you held the stuff. It truly was an amazing experience and the staff was patient and absolutely great. Heck we were even a tough crowd getting carried away during the entertainment portion. The staff probably wanted to hit us over the head with a couple frying pans but they were great sports! My only complaint from the event was that my company was cheap and didn't order beef, they opted instead for veggie options (Yuk!) but the food quality was great.

This isn't an intense cooking class, just in case you're wondering but it really can't be because it's designed as a fun group activity. Therefore, everything is prepped really well and with basic kitchen skills you and your team can prepare the food. I did learn a good onion dicing technique that I used the next day. In any event, our supervising chef was Ryan and he was great. Really energetic and helpful. There was plenty of work to do for all of us and the time went by quickly. When it came time to eat, we were all very hungry. I thought all the food was delicious. I was surprised at how generous the portions were, especially the dessert. Of course that didn't stop me from eating the whole thing. This was a really nice group activity and the staff there do a great job of getting things done so the program moves along without feeling rushed. Definitely recommend this for a corporate event.
