I received the confirmation email 2 days prior to the class. I showed up to the brewery-30 minutes early. I only saw a bartender. I was confused. I asked him if there was a class. He told me that there was no class scheduled that night. I asked if he was sure. He walked away to ask another person. I didn't see any signs about a cooking class. I didn't see any aprons; bowls, utensils; nothing...as if a class was ABOUT to start. The bartender came back and again, told me that there is no class scheduled and for me to request a refund. ??From the parking lot, I call the number on the receipt. No response. I attempted to call the brewery from my car-in the parking lot-hoping to get another person. Nothing. I sent a message on the website under CONTACT US and received an ignorant response. .telling me that everyone else showed up-but me and that I must have gone to a different location. I described the bartender and the parking signs outside and nearby businesses. There was a lack of professionalism from a Chariza Vasquez. No, I would not recommend attending a class through this site. I'd recommend going up to the site where they list the class 1st and just be a bystander...just to make sure it's legit. Took a class to make Tagliatelle Al pesto from scratch by a chef who has experience from master chef! I'm a big fan of the show was very excited to learn from her. Class is very beginner friendly. Chef was attentive, friendly and patient with everyone.There's a bar you can grab drinks/water from to make the class extra fun! I really enjoyed everything about the class and the only thing I'd strongly suggest is giving each party their own equipment. The machine to roll out the dough and the tool that cuts the pasta is shared and the other party using it was behind and slow which snowballed to my party falling behind and we got lost towards the end a bit and although the chef came over to check in, we felt a huge rush. At the end everyone's pesto and pasta are combined and cooked together - which i also hope we can do this step ourselves. The cooking experience was absolutely great. We did the pastry recipe and it was wonderful. He explained everything to us and even gave us extra details. Then we went into groups and started making our dishes. It was cool. There were a group of friends date night people, and even singles. I would definitely highly recommend. I walked away feeling more confident in learning about cooking and since we were using portable burners, it made me feel like I could do this anywhere. It broke the threshold that I needed a really big kitchen to cook. I definitely recommend this cooking class. As for the venue, it was January out on a terrace that was covered and the heat wasn't working. My son scheduled a cooking class for $126 because he was in MD for a special event with a friend. The class was cancelled due to low enrollment but no refund was issued. We were only offered a chance to reschedule on a different date. My son attends college in NC, so he's unable to reschedule and it's unfair to expect to keep $126 when no services were rendered! Cocusocial disputed my credit card company and said that the charge was valid due to their "no refund policy", but emailed me and said that they typically issue refunds for low enrollment but couldn't in my case because I disputed the charge with my cc company! Booked the Italian Date Night cooking class as a birthday gift for my girlfriend, HUGE MISTAKE. Chef Jerry was rude from the start, yelling during check-in and then making us move seats for someone he said was his "friend". He repeatedly used explicit language, made inappropriate jokes, and even mimicked doing cocaine with grated cheese. We left within 10 minutes because it was that uncomfortable. The venue was also not romantic at all. It was basically a shut down cheap hotel breakfast bar, completely misaligned with a "date night" experience. To make matters worse, the company was slow to respond afterward and refused to issue a refund, even after acknowledging the experience was mishandled. Disappointing experience and poor customer service. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. read more

I am posting my review on Yelp because it seems like the website hides non-5-star reviews. I've emailed them about this as that is a pretty deceptive business practice. I booked a pasta-making class with "Chef Andre" in Boston as a surprise for my husband's 30th birthday. It cost $60 per person, and the photos on the website showed pasta being made on a nice countertop and delicious-looking pasta as the final product. From the start, the class was a big disappointment. We arrived 15 minutes early as instructed, but waited almost 45 minutes for the class to start (~30 min late). We were all pretty surprised when we were shown to the cooking area and it was a cramped, pretty dirty shared kitchen space in a low-ceiling basement. 25 students were crammed into a very tight space, and most of us were not able to see/hear the instructions most of the night. One of the couples even had to move their partially made pasta when another cook came downstairs to fry food for his restaurant upstairs. We were given cheap materials (paper bowls, plastic forks), and unopened, low quality cooking materials that were not washed prior to use. Materials were not distributed before the class and had to be chaotically passed around during the class. There was only 1 instructor for 25 students and we spent most of the time standing around waiting for instructions - we were left to more or less figure stuff out on our own as the chef didn't really teach at all as he was running around anxiously trying to make things work. The worst part was that there was only ONE pasta cutting machine for 25 people! The class was supposed to end at 7 but, by that time, most people hadn't even cut their pasta, let alone cooked and eaten it. My pasta was not properly kneaded or prepared (I had to guess throughout a lot of it), and the finished product was rubbery and tasted like shoelaces. Many peoples' sauces (which was a few dry seasonings, chopped onions and garlic, in canned tomato sauce) were burnt from being left too long in the oven. I was very disappointed with my experience, especially after paying almost $120 for me and my husband to cook something I could've done better at home. Jerry was a very knowledgeable chef. He was also very personable, funny, and had some entertaining stories to share with us. He played some latin classic hits and made us feel as though we we're family and right at home in his kitchen. I felt seen and not lonely although I was there alone. The dishes came out pretty delicious especially with his magical Mofongo sauce. I now feel more comfortable making my own Mofongo and empanadas at home too! This was a really subpar experience, especially for the cost and the fact that Chef Elizabeth does not allow refunds or rainchecks - even though CocuSocial normally allows refunds for credit. While our group was 11 people and everyone had to pay a per person price, the pasta was made as a couple. If the activity is shared, the class price should be as well. That said, that's not the worst part about this class or Chef Elizabeth's set up. There were only 4 pasta machines for 11 people / 6 sets of pasta so 2 groups had to stand and wait while everyone else made their pasta. Then, once the last 2 groups finally had access to the machines, Elizabeth was nowhere to be found. She was still chit chatting with the 4 couples that didn't have to stand around and wait. When we asked her a question, she couldn't even answer the question without a question in return, much less helping us half as much as the step by step hand holding the primary group was given. She just moved on with them instead of making sure everyone was able to have the same experience. She spent more time talking about the TV food competitions she competed in than she helped the people that had to wait. Once we had our pasta rolled out, there was again a lack of enough equipment for everyone - when someone tried to add their noodles to the already full pasta drying rack, the entire thing toppled, spilling someone's wine along the way. We were finally able to cook our pasta in one of 2 pots of water and she added the sauce she pre-made and brought along and the sauce might have been the worst part of all. Overall the experience was not great but Chef Elizabeth managed to make it even less enjoyable. read more

Went here in December for a ricotta stuffed ravioli making class. I forgot the instructor's name, but he wasn't very attentive and we were often left sitting there waiting for our next instructions. We weren't the only ones, the table next to us was also a bit lost. Unfortunately, everyone's final product looked really unappetizing and everyone's dish was kinda inedible bcus the ravioli skin was too thick so it ended up being undercooked. We all rolled it out multiple times through the pasta rolling machine to try to flatten it too! But the instructor set the thickeness of the machine too thick. Even I knew it was too thick and wanted to change the thickness, but I didn't want to be rude and touch the machine. He gave us the okay throughout the whole process, so I just wanted to trust the process... But I should have followed my gut! Took a dumpling-making class with my boyfriend and left feeling underwhelmed with the overall experience as well as the final product. For $60+ per person ("valued at" $84pp on CocuSocial), the experience at a Midtown Manhattan Hyatt lacked any real ambiance. The chef was kind and clearly doing his best as he was left to manage a large group completely on his own. After quick demos on knife skills and dumpling folding, we were largely left to figure things out ourselves. With no assistant to support him, he also had to cook all the dumplings solo, which created delays. Ours weren't served until more than 2.5 hours into what was advertised as a 2-hour class. By the end, the chef was understandably apologetic. Cleanliness was another concern. Raw meat sat out on tables as people ate, and there was no sanitizing between handling and consuming food at the same tables. In total, we made just six dumplings each plus bought two cans of White Claw from the hotel check-in desk (outside drinks are not allowed, and the hotel bar was unstaffed). While the chef was friendly and clearly tried his best under the circumstances, the class simply didn't live up to the rave reviews. read more

I surprised my boyfriend with this date idea, and he loved it! It was great that there was a bar next-door in the hotel so that we could order drinks for our meal. The instructor was super informative and helpful in providing guidance on how to make the dumplings. The beef was seasoned very well and tasted amazing when everything was done. You have the option to either steam or fry the dumplings we did both and the dough yielded about 32 dumplings and we were full. Extremely upset that I paid $93 for this underwhelming and sanitarily concerning class for the follow reasons. 1. The deep fryer was broken, so we did not make the zeppoles. Very disappointed that 1/3 of our meal was cancelled with hardly an apology. At the start of the class, the chef told us he would make us extra calzones to compensate us for this; he did not end up doing this. Genuinely believe we should be refunded for this aspect alone. 2. The garlic knots were "take home to make yourself." We did not make them "from scratch"--all we did was stretch the dough and tie into knots. We were told to bring the raw, unbaked dough home. None of the advertised ingredients (butter, parsley, garlic, salt, parmesan, olive oil) were provided in class and the baking/cooking instructions were haphazardly shouted to us during our state of shock that we would not in fact be baking these in class. We will now have to go buy these ingredients ourselves, defeating the purpose of the cooking class. 3. The area was not large enough for 14 people. The class should have been maxed out at 6. My friends and I were squished into a corner. There was so little counter space that my friend had to make her food on a wooden plank that connected the countertop with the wall that separated this food stand from the next business over. In addition to being squished and having flour thrown onto each other due to the cramped space, half the class had to wait while the first half "cooked." The website says that ingredients and equipment are shared; it does not say that personal space is shared as well. 4. Unsanitary. The class was conducted on the regular countertops meant for customers to lean on and eat on. When we first arrived, the chef gave us some snacks (that was nice) that we used the countertops for to eat on. After we ate and threw our dirty napkins/plates/elbows/bags on the counter, the counter was not wiped down. This is the same counter that we had to cook on. We were also not instructed to wash our hands at any point during the class. There was no space to put our bags, so we were all awkwardly trying to handle our bags with flour-covered hands. The chef said he had been working in the kitchen from the age of 7 and had many years of training. His boss (chef Rob) worked in Michelin restaurants. How could this all result in such a lack of cleanliness in the class? I would not have felt comfortable consuming the food had it not been baked. 5. Half the ingredients promised on the website were unavailable. We were only given spinach, pepperoni, mozzarella, parmesan, and onions. Someone asked where the mushrooms were, and the chef responded that they had used them up the night prior. This is a 6:30pm cooking class--you would think that 1. they would ensure supplies were full before class or 2. if supplies were out/low then they would go purchase more during the whole day they had to prepare for the class. 6. The class description boasts a visit to the kitchen to look at the baking process first hand. This did not happen and the opportunity was not even mentioned. 7. The dough was premade before we arrived. Understand that dough needs time to sit before baked, but this is not making pizza "from scratch." All we did in class was stretch the dough out and add toppings. We did not cook; we decorated. 8. This was hosted in a food stall within a food court. Hard to locate and definitely not the ideal place for a $93 cooking class. We had to eat our meal inside the food court. 9. Throughout the class, the chef kept making references to the store needing money. For example, he said that they created the cooking class to make more money. While funny at the time, in retrospect with all the other points above this is upsetting. I feel cheated of my money and honestly feel this should have been a $40 class. I will say the quality of ingredients was good and the calzone ended up turning out tasting very good. This is the only reason why I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1. The chef was very nice and humorous, though the humor part now feels like a jab. My friend and I booked this class for our other friend as a birthday outing and we were all looking forward to this class very much.
