My precious nephew booked Chef Denis to come to his apartment to teach us a cooking class for my birthday. So I flew up to NYC from Florida, so excited about my special gift. I had told everyone at home about what I was doing, and how much I was looking forward to it, and how cool it was. And then Chef Denis canceled the day before our reservation. I know things can happen but he did not use the word "emergency" when leaving his message that he was canceling. Fortunately I have world's greatest nephew so he took me to an amazing Italian restaurant, instead, for my birthday, after we spent a glorious day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And he bought me beautiful earrings. He really is the greatest nephew. I had a wonderful birthday. Had the most magical time at Chef Paul's Miette Culinary Studio through Cozymeal! I brought my 12-year-old niece, who absolutely loves to cook. When signing us up, I mentioned in a note that her dream is to become a chef. The class included seven or eight adults and us, and Chef Paul went out of his way to make her feel welcome. He took her under his wing, showing her basic techniques and treating her aspirations with such respect that she felt truly seen and encouraged. We arrived early, and Chef Paul shared that he began cooking in a professional kitchen around the same age as my niece, then apprenticed under a famous chef in Paris at 15. He later became the head chef of two restaurants before opening his own culinary studio. The class focused on French cooking and included a four-course meal. I loved that it was small and intimate--just 10 people--compared to other classes I found that had 16 to 20 participants. Although we worked in groups of four to prepare each dish, Chef Paul brought everyone together where he demonstrated key steps across all the courses--techniques that many cooks get wrong--and showed us how to do them for the best results. He even provided special recipes for us to take home and ensured that each student got hands-on experience with parts of multiple dishes. It truly felt like a shared and collaborative learning experience. By the end of the three-hour class, our class of nine or ten had shared a delicious meal and great conversation. My niece was absolutely thrilled and left even more inspired to pursue her dream. If you have a child who loves cooking, I can't recommend Chef Paul highly enough. My partner and I were lucky enough to have Chef Marco teach our cooking class in Rome in October, which was at the beginning of our two-week vacation in Europe. We were two of eight people in the class, providing us an incredible opportunity to learn from an expert chef, bond with other people in the course, and make some lifelong memories. Marco was an outstanding teacher, walking us through the ingredients and methods to make a delicious meal of gnocchi, pumpkin ravioli with parmesan, butter, and sage, and tiramisu. We had such a wonderful time that we're still talking about the class and feel like it was the highlight of the trip. Marco even gave us a recommendation for a pizzeria in Naples, where we were headed a few days later, and it was by far the best pizza we had during our visit. Bonus: the kitchen is steps away from the Colosseum so we were treated to a spectacularly lit scene when we left this amazing cooking experience. I took off a star because while we loved the other couple we worked with typically I would not want strangers hands touching my food. The other couple with us was very hygienic as were we so it all worked out. I was extremely excited about giving my husband a fun birthday gift and booked an experience with Chef Sean in the Pittsburgh region. I booked the experience on December 3rd. I didn't hear back from Chef, so I sent him a message about 10 days later. He never responded. I messaged Cozymeal, and they said they'd look into it. Never heard back. Messaged the chef again to confirm. No response (but the messages were read). Did everything possible to get through to Cozymeal. The live chat didn't work. I called the phone number, but no one answered. Messaged Chef a third time. He read it. No response. I also have since contacted Cozymeal with no response. My dinner was supposed to be tomorrow. I would have appreciated a reply from someone saying it wasn't happening. When I logged into my account, it was listed under my booking. It looked legitimate. Now I am embarrassed to tell my husband his gift doesn't exist. I finally heard back from Cozymeal (after I called them again) and they can't accommodate me for my plans tomorrow. They told me they'd give me 25% off my next purchase, but never gave me any way to contact them to get this discount. read more

Chef Jamie welcomed us into her home that was clean, intimate, beautifully decorated and a perfect space for my mother and I to take this cooking class. We had the privilege of it being a private class. Chef Jamie explained each step thoroughly before beginning and continued to do so as we went through each step. At times, when I was hard on myself with not knowing what to do, she consistently reassured me that learning is part of the process and it's okay to make mistakes. We live near Palm Beach Florida and did the Mother Sauces with Chef Greg! This is a true skill class and it was fantastic. So much so that we will all do it one more time just to hammer it in. We made each mother sauce - with at least 2 or 3 variations on each. For example with Volute we made Marsala and Française! Greg is super easy to work with and brought everything. Great, unique experience learning the Art of Maki Sushi with Chef Roger! This class was everything you would want in a one time sushi making class. Chef Roger had all the ingredients prepared and laid out on the table prior to my arrival. Before learning to make the sushi, he provided information packets on the ingredients, what they are, and where we could find them. He has many years of experience teaching how to cook and provides knowledge on anything you might want to know about sushi. All of the fillings were sliced and ready to get added into the sushi roll we learned how to make. After making the sushi, we all sat down to eat while chef Roger prepared bowls of miso soup. This was such a fun experience to meet new people while learning to make sushi. The location was the only thing that surprised me about this class because they are hosted in the chef's kitchens-it say's 'Chef's Place' in the location, but I still thought it was going to be a commercial kitchen when I signed up. I was nervous to go to someone's home and learn to cook there, but I liked this because it was nice to see the chef's kitchen set up. After talking to Chef Roger about the cozymeal process, it seems they carefully choose chefs that would make excellent cooking and learning experience for the customer. Overall, this was such a fun and exciting class. I highly recommend taking a class with Chef Roger if you get the chance-he has some other classes like macaroons and making fresh pasta that I will be signing up for in the future. read more

Chef Carlos more than met our expectations, he exceeded them! What a night! He led our group in our finale event to celebrate Hispanic/Latino Heritage Month. Chef Carlos prepared two entrees with a Cuban flair, per our request. We made "All Out Pork Cuban Sandwiches" and "Shrimp Enchilado." Both meals were well prepared and his instructions are organized and really easy to follow. The end result was delicious! He's also very entertaining and taught us more about the Hispanic/Latino culture in such an interesting and fun way, you didn't even know you're learning, but you are - about people and food and all the things that bring us together. You forget sometimes that there is a six hour difference, with him instructing from Madrid, but he makes our time together seem flawless and fun. You wish it would never end! This review is for the Making Pierogis Class. Quick pace, excellent base on which to build on your own. It helped me to have the ingredients premeasured ahead of time. Also, if you live at high altitude, start your potatoes boiling about 15 minutes prior to the start of class. Cut your potatoes into small cubes, this will help when it comes to mashing them later. A potato ricer, tamis, or potato masher would help in the class. Read the recipe through before class, as this helps too. When I make these again, I will double the recipe for the dough, and make my pierogis circles larger, at least 3.5" to 4" across. They are easier to work with if the circles are larger. The smaller size are good for an appetizer. I'm going to make bigger ones, and try a dessert type filling, with fruit. Whipped cream will be the dipping sauce. read more

Christophe is a french-trained chef and shared with us a family recipe for pork tenderloin and even played some jazz music with my boyfriend who is a professional musician to boot. The menu was wonderful and I learned to love quinoa. All of the flavor was beautiful and very nicely balanced. If you are planning a special event on a specific date, do not book with Cozymeal until they have adjusted their booking system. I was excited at the idea of having a private cooking class at our home on Valentine's Day, followed by eating the meal with my Valentine. Instead, Cozymeal's current booking system sabotaged our evening. The week prior, I saw what home cooking classes were supposedly available on Valentine's Day. I booked one, then received an email that the chef would contact me within a few days to confirm the booking. Sure enough, the chef contacted me days later - to state that he was not available. I requested a refund. I tried again by choosing a second class and chef that were listed as being available on Valentine's Day. It was now three days before the holiday. On Valentine's Day, I still had not heard back from the chef. I contacted Cozymeal to ask about our booking, only to discover that the chef had accepted another one instead. They once again refunded my money, but by this point it was too late to make an alternate Valentine's dinner plan. No other opportunities for the evening were listed in our area with Cozymeal at this last minute and now it was also too late to make a reservation at a nice restaurant. I have been yo a couple of classes now and am really impressed. To start, the online reservation process was seamless and their user-interface is extremely user friendly. I was looking to do a cooking class with a friend and found a course. I received a confirmation as soon as the Chef accepted our booking. The class started at 11AM taking place at a really nice kitchen in the city. There was a nice long table and ten people were present. For the first thirty minutes, the Chef gave us a brief history of the meal we were going to make, the different types, and the cultural aspects of the food. The best part in this class was that as she would describe a type of food, her staff would serve you that dish. There isn't a better way of learning about food when you can actually taste it. Before the cooking portion of the experience, she went around and presented the tasks, and each person chose to the tasks they were interested in. The kitchen was very nice, and spacious. I really appreciated the fact that Chef took the time to describe her secret sauce for marinating the pork, and even let people in the group taste it. This really helped me appreciate all the prep work needed to prepare a superb meal. From straining the broth, to chopping scallions, to prepping the toppings, we all worked together and I had a lot of fun not only with my friend but people I hadn't met before. I chose to have the thick noodles for my dish, and also made veggie dumplings. I was quite impressed with the final product and it made 10x more delicious to eat it, not only because I had spent the day working to make the meal, but I also felt a new appreciation for the cuisine. I have become a huge fan of the Cozymeal concept and will be doing more cooking classes, exploring my favorite meals. I think it's a great opportunity for a date and, if you want to get to know your team members at work better, you can book one of their team building activities. I took the class: Handling Fresh Seafood in the Kitchen led by Chef Bahr's in his own restaurant. It was my first Cozymeal and cooking class! The chef was knowledgeable, patient and had a great sense of humor. We learned to make chocolate custard shuck oysters, sliced fresh raw Branzino fish for carpaccio, made Salmon poke, and watched how Chef Bar prepared paella before it went to the oven for us to share a perfect end to the night. Chef Bahr was personable and made us feel welcome. Since it was a small group (of 7) prepping at one table, it allowed us to be intimate and it was just like having friends over at your home, cooking, and having great conversations over wine and beer. (It's BYOB! Although you can get drinks at the bar). Great vibe and energy amongst the group. The class was hand-ons and we learned a lot of helpful tips and tricks on handling seafood, food shopping and we all shared our love of food and favorites eats around the city. The recipes were easy to follow. The food was fresh, delicious and plenty for everyone - we practically licked everything off the plate! With the time allotted, the class was well organized - we created a 5-course meal in 3 hours and we got to eat it! And best of all it was a relaxed experience - no pressure to rush through and to finish on time. In fact, we lingered after just chatting and friending each other on Facebook! Two of my girl friends and I took Essentials of Sushi Making with Logan. The class was awesome! Logan was a wonderful instructor. The pace is pretty fast, but that was much appreciated by our group. We all felt like we learned a lot and are equipped to make sushi on our own. Everything we made was delicious. As other reviews mention, this class is closer to 90-120 minutes instead of 75 minutes.
