Made a reservation at burro bar for some brunch this past weekend and was definitely not disappointed. The service was great and when I called to see if I could switch my reservation to be indoors they were very accommodating. We were pleasantly surprised when there was actually a bottomless brunch special going on until 3PM. That meant unlimited brunch dishes!! (Drinks not included) Obviously we ordered a bunch of things - the French toast, tortas, corn, A LOT of tacos and much more (basically everything on the menu) Overall all the dishes were pretty decent but what stood out was the French toast - it was sweet but not overwhelming, super soft and delicious, the pork carnitas tacos were also really good with a great refreshing crunch from the apple pieces in there. The food was always surprisingly good. TIP: order more than one item at time because it's Tapas style very little portions but its worth it. The only reason I give this place 3 stars was because the service was Horrible!! Our waiter, and the other staff were rude and told us to hurry up because we only had 45 minutes. This is a great, fun spot to go enjoy some tacos and drinks. They recently renovated the entire inside which looks outstanding. The food is always good yet the value could be a bit better. Most recently, I went the other night for drinks and some small bites and thought everything was great except the chips...not sure if it was just the end of the night or what but they seemed a bit stale. I loved everything about my visit. I don't normally like tequila, but their strawberry dragonfruit margarita was amazing! The tequila is infused with dragonfruit which cuts the tart taste that I don't normally enjoy. Our waitress was so friendly, offering us many suggestions and tips for navigating the menu. The space is beautifully decorated and well distanced. We felt safe to dine! The short rib taco was to die for. It has both a soft and crunchy tortilla which added great texture. Tried the bottomless brunch with a group of friends (7 people) and it was a blast! The value at $21 per person is totally worth it. We ordered some drinks separately (yay for $6 mimosas) Ended up trying nearly everything on the menu! Overall the food was more like a 4/5 but considering it was AYCE I feel it deserves a full 5 star rating. I really liked the shrimp tacos, pork carnitas taco, chilqauiles, shishito peppers, and brussels sprouts. Some of the other tapas dishes were just ok (like the cauliflower was meh but the sauce was good). In terms of service, they did a respectable job of checking in for additional orders. My main complaint was that even though they took our orders individually they randomly served the dishes to the table. Also, if your table orders more than one of the same dish they will combine the orders on one plate, even if you're sitting on opposite ends of the table. My friends took me here as one of them knew this place does an "all you can eat" brunch! How it works is you can order dishes from your server and they will bring them out to you. The service was 5/5 as everyone was extremely polite and quick. When we ordered our food, it only took about 10 minutes for 8 different dishes to be on our tables. We couldn't keep up with them! All the dishes in the all you can eat menu are relatively small, and that's great because you get to try so many different dishes! I went to Burro Bar for dinner and drinks with a few friends. Overall, I was not at all impressed with the place. I made a reservation for their "outdoor patio", but it honestly did not make me feel too covid-safe. As someone who has strictly been doing take-out and outdoor dining, I was disappointed with their "outdoor patio". There are plastic curtains enclosing 3/4 sides of the patio, and it's not like it was raining or anything..It was a warm April 60 degree day in Boston. There was barely any air flow on the patio with only one of the sides open to the outside. I'm not sure I would have counted this as safe "outdoor dining". For the food: First of all, the tacos are $7 each! I thought $7 was going to be two tacos, but it was only 1 so I couldn't fathom spending $7 on 1 taco. I had the chicken quesadilla, which was $12, and it was pretty disappointing. The chicken had literally no flavor or seasoning on it, which I found quite odd. It was pretty cheesy which was the only saving grace, and came with pico and sour cream. Quesadilla portion size was normal. There was a free portion of chips and salsa for the table, but they didn't give us enough salsa for the chip ratio. The salsa was also mediocre, very smooth/homogenous (weird consistency), and not spicy at all. For the drinks: I ordered the hibiscus margarita ($12). It was pretty good - hibiscus flavor was nice and sour, average portion size / price for Boston. I tried my friends mango margarita and it was also pretty tasty. read more

Being a Davis girl, I'm already a huge fan of Painted Burro's drinks and menu (especially their brunch), so while planning a rare night out in Brookline, I made a reservation at the popular Burro Bar to compare the two sibling restaurants. Burro Bar has a different vibe than PB. It's smaller, just one room, with hip lighting and paintings. This lil sis just seems cool from the start. The menu is shorter, with a focus on tacos, along with some shareable plates and larger entrees. It was busy when we arrived at 6:30 PM on Saturday, but we were seated right away at our reserved table. The service was friendly but with inconsistent timing. We first ordered our drinks, and later ordered our appetizer; however, the appetizer still awkwardly arrived before the drinks. Each table gets some house-made chips & salsa, which are already stellar, and we decided to splurge on the guacamole with added pork belly and charred tomatoes. This was a unique guac, although the pork belly & squishy tomatoes were just stuck on top instead of incorporated into it. We had to do some cutting and maneuvering to get the meat onto our chips, which was pretty awkward, but also pretty delicious when we got it right. A bit later, our drinks arrived. The Mexcarita was smoky and limey and the Mango Habanero Marg was fruity with a strong, spicy kick. These drinks are the same if not very similar to what BB's sister serves up. So you know they'll be good. Taco time! He got 3 (chorizo with runny egg, short rib, shrimp) and I got two. The coconut cod tasted fresh, although I would have liked more coconut flavor come through. I especially enjoyed the short rib "double stack" with the hard taco shell adding an unexpectedly great crunch and structure to the taco. The toppings each came with were all good and were made even better by adding the salsa and guac we had on the table. The other reviews aren't wrong: this place is pricey. $7-8 per taco is no joke, plus apps and drinks to make it a full meal. For the amount we spent, we could have gotten much more/nicer food elsewhere, but the experience and flavors are great. So just know what to expect, and you won't be disappointed. I think I still prefer Painted Burro's extensive & inventive menu (not to mention their Somerville location), but Burro Bar is a great choice for a fun meal in Brookline. Salud! read more

The place has been buzzing ever since it opened just a few years ago. I live just a 5 minute walk from Burro Bar and it's a great place to catch up with friends over a drink and some light fare. The house margarita is an obvious recommendation. I know it sounds basic and obviously based on personal preference, but I really do enjoy the guacamole they serve here since there's definitely more citrus mixed in than other restaurant guacs. It was very quiet when we got there, and people were trickling in by the time we were done. I ordered the Lobster Benedict. It was served with potatoes and black beans. My favorite part about eggs Benedict is cutting open the poached egg. My eggs, unfortunately, were seriously overcooked...they essentially were hard boiled eggs. It was very disappointing and kinda difficult to get passed. I'm not a fan of hardboiled eggs, and ended up giving them to another person in our party. The sauce was delicious. The lobster was perfect. The bread it was served on was perfect as well. Potatoes were yummy, and I really liked the black beans. I finally tried Burro Bar for brunch recently, and enjoyed the experience: affordable, delicious, with a relaxed vibe. No problem booking in advance for a large party (mini college reunion) of 10, plus children (we've entered the baby stage now). We picked Burro Bar Brookline primarily for its location with plenty of meter street parking in the area. It was also kid-friendly with kids' menu and high-chair available. Since it turned out to be a nice day, we were seated in the front patio space with shade. My only encounter with Mexican brunch has been huevos rancheros - which I'm meh about. So glad Burro Bar has much more to offer than that. Most of us ordered the Burro Bowl or the 'Superbeasto' breakfast plate, which sounds more intimidating than it really was. Both came in good portions, with good variety, tender and flavorful meats, and perfectly runny eggs. It ain't brunch if runny eggs aren't involved! After much anticipation and waiting for Burro Bar to open, my roommate and I grabbed dinner there last night. I made a reservation for 6:30 through their website, unsure how crowded it would be. I'm glad I did because the restaurant is small and it was FULL. We were seated at a high top, in between the people seated at the bar and those seated at lower tables along the wall. The vibe and decor is very funky and modern - great light fixtures and cool paintings. Our server was friendly and attentive. With it being a weeknight and all, we skipped on drinks this time around - but they looked delicious. To share, we ordered the nachos and the Mexican street corn. The nachos ($14) were massive - loaded with guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and (I think) chorizo. The Mexican Street corn was SO full of flavor - I loved that it was served off the cob. I could have eaten a whole big bowl of that and been content. As for tacos, we each ordered the double stack short rib taco ($7) and did not regret it. Crispy, fresh tortillas piled high with juicy, tender short rib. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Amazing experience and service here. We came here on a Sunday afternoon wanting some appetizers and a few drinks. To our delight, that actually had a full brunch menu that was served all day for about 20 bucks. The options were vast and super great taste. I definitely tried a lot on the menu. The place is sort of served like tapas style, so you can definitely divide and share amongst your table. I got the tacos (pulled pork, beef, and shrimp one). The pulled pork was my favorite. It also comes with this apple salsa, I didn't care for it as much as the aioli, which was creamy and a good sauce for the taco. The nachos are also a good option and is great for sharing with a group. All the topping were great. We said chorizo and jalapeños on the side since not everyone in the group liked them. The star of the buffet, was the grilled corn on the cob with accents of cheese and spices. They ran out of corn. I can see why since it was a hit. The grilled Brussel sprouts with bacon was also good. Salty from the bacon, and earthy and bitter from the brussels sprout. The potatoes were OK- but nothing to go crazy over. Same with the wings, it had a grilled and zesty flavor, but the the wings itself were average. The nachos were so good we ordered another order! Overall, the service was attentive and also very understanding. The manager came out to let us know that the corn was sold out, but there were still other veggie options on the menu. I've only been for the brunch on the weekends, but that is excellent given the cost/quantity ratio. Bottomless brunch for $25/person? Absolutely! Doesn't hurt that it's less than a mile from my home, so it's an easy option for a last minute brunch plan with friends. The waffles are GREAT (speaking as someone who loves sweet foods) and the papas bravas, Brussels sprouts, and Benedicta are also good.
