I love Lone Star, and when it was connected to Deep Ellum I loved it then too. This place has great eats, great staff, and a fun atmosphere. I love the breakfast burrito with the chorizo, I could eat it everyday with them habanero sauce. It's the best combo of heat and flavor. Their chile quiles is also great, well crisped chips. Overall this place was pretty good. The barbacoa taco, chicken quesadilla and their version of a Crunchwrap were the highlights. I thought these dishes were all super flavorful and yummy. The carnitas, fish and birria tacos didn't stand out to me and I've had better elsewhere. It was pretty cute inside but it's a bit small and you're seated pretty close to the people next to you. Was not expecting such good Mexican here, having spent a lot of time in Texas and California. The chorizo taco is so delicious and unique - I've never had one so delightfully cheesy. Definitely memorable and worth coming back for. The carnitas taco was good too but not mind blowing like the chorizo. Had heard about this place for years, so glad to finally try it, and also that it lived up to its rep. First and foremost, delicious margs here, and plenty of mezcal, if you are into that. I order birria any time I see it on a menu, and Lone Star delivered; it was wonderfully fatty and rich. A surprise for me though was how good the grilled avocado taco was. I'm not sure I've ever had avocado not raw, but it was downright fantastic - their salsa verde is great in general, so that paired quite well. For drinks we got: Lone Star Mug-arita (8/10): a slightly larger version of their traditional margarita. It was a solid marg, not sure if the size difference is actually saving you money or not. El Diablo (8.5/10): This is a tasty margarita! Honestly, not spicy, but my favorite. The rim was just okay, but it tasted great. Luca Libra (6/10): this was my least favorite. It didn't taste great & the Tajin rim was overwhelming. Also, it was much smaller than the other margaritas, not sure why. For food: Chips & salsa verde (7/10): basic and simple. The salsa was mediocre, but the chips were bottomless and really good. Birria tacos (7/10): meh, they're okay. Not bad, not great. They have 3 "hot sauces", which aren't spicy. I didn't like any of them. I really wanted traditional hot sauce, but they didn't offer any. The bartender was very pleasant and quick. They have a crazy long list for drinks, especially tequila. I feel like that's mainly the reason for the great reviews because food-wise, the menu is quite limited. We had the victory club nachos, fish taco, avocado taco, chicken ranchero tostada and the elote. The nachos were topped with cotija cheese, cheddar, jalapenos, cabbage and avocado crema. They were very good but felt a little dry without salsa. The fish taco was just okay, it smelled too fishy for my taste. The avocado taco with tofu also was nothing to write about. Their tacos have interesting individual toppings but they don't work together as one dish. The chicken ranchero tostada was tasty but the star of the show was the grilled corn. They slather on the chili lime aioli and that stuff's gooood. It's a small restaurant, not many tables. If you don't want to wait, come earlier in the evening. It almost always arrives soggy with that beautiful crispy batter totally ruined, no matter where you get it from. in short: my complaint, given the fact that this was the dreaded "delivery fish taco" is that nothing comes on it. It was simply a piece of battered fried fish wrapped in a crumbling (albeit delicious) tortilla. each of the ingredients that one would expect either on the taco or on the side of the taco cost extra so instead of a $6 fish taco, I ordered a $10 fish taco. and $.75 is a little bit pricey for 1/3 of one radish or a 1 tbsp of salsa verde. The bottom line is that the corn was so good, I would order again for it alone. But it will never be a go-to for me with this taco pricing model. read more

Guac was good but honestly I don't think they give enough for the $11 so if you are in a larger group you might want to get two orders so everyone gets enough. Also, if you didn't know they serve family style so the tacos come out in groups.
