Tldr: 3 appointments, bad dye job, and then color correction. I have basically the same hair color before, with my curl pattern ruined and $360 (w/ tip) poorer without how I wanted my hair in the first place. I wanted my hair to look good for the anniversary of my bff's death, and graduation. I was nervous so I scheduled a consultation a week out with Jenna, I got there, waited 45 min or maybe longer, and met the stylist. She was sweet but I didnt hear her name. I let her know I wanted depth and was adamant that I want the most gentle way to add depth and dimension to my natural color without doing full over color, because I had been growing my hair out for 2 years without dye to get healthy curly hair and I didnt want to ruin my curls. Once we talked for 30 minutes, we switched to talking about what haircut I wanted and I showed her a picture from the salon Insta asking for something like that. She said that she didnt do it, but the owner did. I wasted so much time when I booked the consultation with the owner to talk to someone who was not the owner or who I was getting a cut or dye from. I ended up only getting to talk to the real person doing my hair for 10-15 minutes. When I got there for my hair appointment on Tuesday I showed her a balayage picture that I liked and said I liked how the highlights were placed and that I wanted natural red toned ones against my natural hair color. I also said I did not want the whole bottom half of my hair to be blonde, I just wanted to add a touch of red to compliment my natural hair color with the natural red tones already in it. She asked if I wanted an all over glaze and I said no again because I wanted to keep my natural color with just red added in to compliment it and wanted to mess with my curls as minimally as possible. Everything went somewhat normally, when we finished toning my hair I got back and the bottom half of my hair was very obviously blondish orange and nowhere near the color I wanted or natural, we went back to "tone" again. Well, 30 min later I come back and I can see my roots are bright red. I panic, because I had been so clear about wanting a natural color and wanting to completely keep my natural color on top with mostlynatural hair color on bottom. I waited for her to dry half of it and almost cried. I asked what happened. She said because the bottom was too blonde for me then we went back to "tone" she just gave me a glaze all over. My mouth dropped and I looked her dead in the eye and said that when she asked me before if I wanted all over color with a glaze at the beginning I had specifically said no. We went around several times with her trying to convince me that the top of my head was my "natural" hair color, until I showed her the weird gap in the side that was the only place not glazed and compared it to the top. She said we could scrub it out but there was not much we could do because the ends would be super blonde again, and her assistant could do it because she had another client. I went home because she said it would fade, and by then it was 4:00 and I had been there since 12:35, (5 minutes late bc I drove from Gainesville but I called ahead to let them know.) She cut my hair dry and straight (which is weird for a curly hair cut) and I left with a horrifically dye job nowhere near what I wanted. I called on Wednesday at 10:30 am (after all of my friends asked me if I had a run in with bad box dye) and said I was very unhappy with how it turned out and wanted to have it fixed or a refund so I can pay to fix it. The girl asked who did my hair and when I said Jenna she laughed but apologized because she said that it was the owner who did it. She said they typically don't do free color for people who are unhappy with their color and they only do that for haircuts and they have never done a refund as far as she knows and that she would text her manager about it. I did not have a call back that day and considering I wanted my hair to look good for Friday I called again on Thursday at 10:30 am after I emailed in pictures of my hair disaster. I finally got called back around 3:30. I spoke with the manager about fixing my hair, they could not get me in before Friday which is why Igor it done in the first place. I had an 11:00 am appointment today but unfortunately, the damage is done at my red roots and I had to have the whole top of my head redyed with a root smudge to get rid of the red. I wanted to do the most gentle thing for my curls and avoid having color all over, but unfortunately, in order to fix this freak accident dye job I had to do more color along with heat and a clarifying shampoo. Because we were so focused on fixing my hair from before we decided to just go back to my natural hair color instead of what I originally wanted. My curl pattern is ruined, my hair feels completely different and is super unhealthy compared to how it was before my first appointment. I wish I had never gone in the first place. read more

Jenna has given me the best color and cut for my very thick and dark hair that is difficult to work with usually. The first time going, I use a stylist who did a great job, however the cost was too $. I did use her again and took my daughter too. Unfortunately, the cost was so expensive, it was not affordable for me to do both at the same time. I tried another stylist, with even better results! I ended up trying a different stylist-I would call hair color specialist! Her charge was reasonable and worth every dime. The place is cozy with nice staff members. I would defiantly recommend Erin-hands down!!!!! She is my number one go to person! I give Erin 5 stars!!! However, the salon charges $$$ to recommend it to fellow workers. I have done balayage as well as normal trims and every time she has given great advice on what color works best for me and the best care. I came here to do hair cut and highlights being in my week 36 of pregnancy. Went back home with a wet shirt because Brooke didn't use any towel while washing my hair and even didn't dry my hair properly. I showed her a picture of what I want the haircut to be like but it turned out to be a complete different style and she said it's because your hair is curly (so wish she had told me at the beginning). She had two more clients after me so rushed with everything and just did few partial highlight though I asked for a full one, and her reasoning was that it looks better on you. I explicitly told her at the beginning about my haircut style and the full highlight but turned out to be a complete different style. And when I asked her to add more highlights, she ignored me. She even didn't show me the color pallets to choose the highlight color and mixed some random color on my hair, and didn't dry out well so I can't recognize the color. I don't know about other stylists but at least don't recommend Brooke. read more

Jenna was so great! I booked the appointment last minute, and everyone was so welcoming. The space is very neat, which was nice too. Jenna listened to everything I said and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole process. She even brought me a drink when I was under the dryer! This was the worst dye job I or anyone I've heard of getting. Dye Color: royal blue/ navy (a "vivid") Stylist: Kristen Expected Time: 3hr Total Time: 6hr My first sentence sounds very dramatic, but unfortunately doesn't hyperbolize any part of my experience. I did thorough research of the stylists in Athens; Kristen of Pageboy Salon is the only person in Athens with a portfolio stuffed with vivid-styled past customers. Kristen was also the only person in Athens that listed a specialty with vivid colors on her salon's website. At the beginning of my appointment, Kristen and I went through pictures I had saved on my phone of the hair color I would like. My biggest point was that I wanted my hair to be very noticeably blue in indoor light, and not how it currently looked. Currently, my hair had been box-dyed navy blue, which appeared black in all light (indoor & outdoor). She said that was no problem, and she suggested doing a "shadow root". This meant making my dye roots a more natural color, so as my hair grew in, the new hair didn't look very out-of-place. I said 'great, let's do it!' The first two phases of the dye job went well (1 bleaching, 2 toning). It wasn't until she dyed my hair that problems started occurring. She dyed my hair and it came out black. Both of us had been chatty and were now pretty quiet because my hair looked raven black. She dried it and asked me to stand near the window to check it out in "natural light". In the natural light 1) it was not discernible my hair was blue, and 2) there was a light, green streak between where the shadow root ended and my "blue" dye began. She started to get anxious because she had another customer coming in for an appointment, and my appointment at this point had started to run over the 4hr limit. She tried to convince me the green streak looked cool; I told her I wasn't happy with it and would like to dye it "blue" like the rest. She said "Of course! I want you to leave here thinking your hair is perfect and are comfortable with it!" She re-dyed the green streaks of my hair. At this point, her next customer showed up. She noticed, and quickly washed my hair. Instead of drying it, she asked me to sit under a dryer; that's fine. After she walked away, I noticed she hadn't washed my hair out well or run it out well because a lot of dark blue water was dripping down my neck onto the smock. Her new customer must have given her the okay to keep going with me, because Kristen came back and said she would blow-dry my hair. She began blow drying it and said 'Sorry I didn't have time to style it; just come back another time and I can do it'. I asked her how many times would I wash it before it faded to the color I wanted. She said that it would fade quickly to the color I wanted and maybe bleed for a week, two weeks max. It has been 4 weeks since my dye job. My hair is JUST now getting close to the color I want. Yet, my hair is still bleeding. Every time I wash my hair, dark blue dye rinses out. Apparently, this is expected for vivid colors since there isn't peroxide in the product to bond with your hair. This is fine; however, based on Kristen's advice, she was either wrong or purposefully misleading. I don't know which is worse, truly. I paid nearly $500 to get my hair dyed the color I wanted it for YEARS, having saved up for months and months as a graduate student from holidays and birthdays. This was nothing like I wanted; I was and am so angry, sad, and shocked such a professional salon and their employee would be okay with this. I walked out of there stunned, having been shoed away for the new customer to take a seat. The "fixes" she had to do made me stay an extra three hours; three hours I was actually supposed to be at work. I couldn't be more unsatisfied and will stear all my undergraduate, graduate, and townie friends from this place. This experience was absolutely unacceptable. My hair was bleached so there is no way I can have this re-done by someone who actually knows what they're doing. Wait, no reviews yet?? Well it is my honor to tell you all about my hair salon for the past six years (as it was formerly Rage, but not much has changed). The employees are all super friendly and creative. I've never had a bad experience with Erin (my stylist), and have sent two of my best female friends here and they've loved their own stylists. So really, you can't go wrong in my opinion. I always pre-book, so I can't speak to walk-in availability, but I would be surprised if they couldn't get you a spot on short notice if necessary. The location is also great. I love to go in the morning and grab a bagel from downtown afterwards, or just sit outside and have a coffee from downstairs. And it's nice while getting your hair cut to look outside and see College Avenue below. I'm new to the area and haven't had to find a new stylist for a long time - so I was very leery. I read the reviews for Pageboy and felt that they were mostly good so I bit the bullet and called. I was set up with Erin, and was I ever pleased. I had a picture of my last haircut and told her I'd like something similar to it - she listened, she asked questions, she looked at the picture again, asked a couple more questions and proceeded to give me a beautiful cut and style. Terrible experience. Had to go back for damage control. Stylist assured me she knew how to cut wavy hair and a long bang--definitely not. Never had as bad of a haircut as I did here. Felt uncomfortable going back, but I paid $60 for a something I was extremely unhappy with. Steer clear. read more

I visited because my hairstylist, Jamie, just began working here. I enjoyed the atmosphere and was warmly greeted by the staff. Complimentary beverages and Apple TV were a nice touch along with the pleasant waiting area. The ambiance is warm. Jamie does a good job. He is attentive to detail and really cares about doing a good job and making you happy. I haven't tried anyone else yet, but I anticipate they are all good too. I just found out they validate parking... but the street parking isn't bad anyway. read more

Chrissy is amazing. I don't know how she did it but I went from dark brown to a perfect shade of blonde in 2 hours. I made an appt the day of and they had no problem accommodating me. I showed Chrissy some pictures of the color I wanted and she did her thing. I love my hair and have gotten SOOO many compliments on it. Not to mention, the salon is so cute inside and everyone was super friendly. I had my first experience at Pageboy yesterday and it was wonderful! I went to Lacey and she did wonders on my hair. She really listened to what I wanted and took the time to make it perfect. I am so impressed by her skills. She made my hair color better than I could have expected. She was great to chat with as well. On top of having an awesome stylist, the ambience was great. The cool furniture, exposed brick walls, and eclectic decor made the experience even better. Every staff member I spoke with was courteous. I have already booked my next appointment for cut and color as well as an appointment for my wedding. That's how awesome this place is! Went here for a haircut on a whim, my old salon closed and I needed a new spot. They fit me in last minute and Alyssa cut my hair. She did a great job giving me a nice cut that has had staying power. It kept its shape a bit better than cuts from my previous salon. Alyssa did a great job and the salon has comfortable feel to it. Well, here's the good stuff, the place looks great, hostess was very nice. Did some research prior to making my first appointment, and scheduled two weeks out with Jenna for a Saturday morning. Saturdays are critical to me since I live a distance from town and have to drive in. Got there on time, offered something to drink and then I sat....and, sat....and, sat....finally about 10 minutes past my appointment time, the hostess came over and said sorry Jenna is running behind, if you don't mind waiting a few minutes I can get you in with _______. Obviously if I had wanted unnamed stylist, I would have scheduled with that person. No call before I drove in, Jenna never came over and apologized, no we can reschedule you for.....just, if you don't mind waiting a few minutes, we can work you in with __________. I asked if I could wanted for Jenna and she said, well, she's really behind.......Not sure about all of you but to me, an scheduled appointment is a scheduled appointment, I would have expected at least an apology from Jenna, an offer to reschedule, something other than....if you don't mind waiting...... So, to all others who may schedule hair appointment with Jenna, good luck, not sure what her issue was. read more
