Before we vacationed in Cancun, my BF Joe K researched all the nearby restaurants to our hotel…read more Using Yelp, he found this place to have continued high ratings. So we made a point of finding them on the second floor of a mall in the hotel zone.
When we first found this hard to find location, we almost got it confused with another Italian eatery that specialized in pizza in the same area. We were the only patrons there, but hoped we would get special treatment, which we did. Our waiter was extremely friendly, spoke little English, and seemed inexperienced or maybe new. We ordered drinks to start off with, but we had to ask for menus after waiting quite a long time. The waiter made me a very delicious frozen margarita though and Joe had a Bohemian beer.
We almost got pizza, but I wasn't in the mood, so instead, I ordered Ravioli Di Mozzarella Di Bufala. Joe ordered Pappardelle Con La Siccia. We began our meals with a Caprese salad and Italian bread (pizza dough style). While we waited for our food, I had time to enjoy the nice, romantic, atmosphere of the restaurant with smooth jazz playing in the back ground. I liked how modern and clean the decor was and they had TV's placed around the dining area.
When our food arrived, everything was very good, especially the freshly baked bread. Joe liked it so much that we decided that we would return again before our vacation was over and try their pizza, hoping that our bread was a preview of what their pizza would be like. My only complaint at that time was that my dish was lukewarm. When the waiter asked us how everything was, I told him that my food was basically cold. He just laughed and said "OK". I knew that he didn't understand what I said and let it go.
When the time came for our next visit, we once again almost went to the wrong restaurant, until I checked my bookmarks on Yelp to verify where we needed to go. (After all, the name of this place looks hard to remember or pronounce). As we entered the almost empty restaurant, we had the same waiter, however, I don't think he remembered us like we did him. He was still very nice but it looked like the owner or manager was present, and I could see he was under pressure to show us a whole platter of meats that they kept refrigerated out front. Then he told us about their specials. I almost felt guilty that we specifically came for the pizza this time.
Of the appetizing selections offered, we decided to share a Margherita pizza. While waiting, we were able to watch the cook making the pizza near the pizza oven. When our food was served, we noticed right off that the pizza dough was nothing like the pizza bread we had during our last visit. In fact, the bottom crust was paper thin and soggy! Our dreams for a delicious pizza were immediately dashed! When the owner stopped at our table to see how we liked it, we were too embarrassed to tell him we hated it! After forcing down a few slices, we quietly paid the bill and left, knowing that we would have to write disappointing reviews and never again look back.....
