25APR26 Been on…read moretheir mailing list a few years, and finally my schedule and their (Texas Mead Works/Blue Lotus Winery) day trip offerings aligned. Saturday afternoon kokedama (think potting plants, but doing it without pots) was listed as 1pm to 3pm, and with the advice to show up early if you wanted to order drinks or snacks to enjoy in the course of it. Most people seem to have gathered and done their sampling beforehand. We arrived ten minutes early and were third in line to order in the tasting room, where there was only one employee on duty. She was kind and informative, and we managed to walk in to class what used to be politely termed as fashionably late. I had a glass of peach mead in hand, Mr R had a chocolate bar in hand and a black olive pizza on order. The kokedama class was fun, run by a couple who had recently been florists in their own storefront. Tables had been nicely prepped beforehand. An hour later, a mixed group of plant experts and novices left with attractive creations that had a story/memory attached. On exiting the event room, Mr R took our plants to the car and went to fetch the pizza. I wandered back into the tasting room and asked whether she recommended trebbiano or dry Viognier for someone who likes pinot gris. Samples proved tasty and while they were both really nice on their own, I went with a bottle of trebbiano for lunch. The pizza was lovely--great crust, tasty but balanced toppings, perfect serving temperature--and we enjoyed it on the back porch. Splitting it between two adults was perfect for lunch and the rest of the bottle went in the trunk for the ride home. The chocolate bar predictably transformed waiting on the porch with us in full sunlight (our bad planning, it recovered in the fridge at home) as we had a laugh and enjoyed good food. Some of the other participants came and went as well, but most chose to depart for the rest of their day or stay inside in the AC, which I understand. Outside, of course, we got to enjoy local birds, sounds of kids and horses enjoying Saturday afternoon life on nearby properties, and a couple Guinea fowl who wandered by after the pizza was gone. We were on the less finished end of the grounds, but could see the nearby rental cabins (built to resemble wine casks) and a pavilion for weddings and other parties. There were several chairs and tables just outside the tasting room as well as inside. It's not a full restaurant, just a short list of maybe four items to accompany wine/mead tasting or satisfy friends who have tagged along. The shiny columns of bottles are the main reason most people are here, and there is a nice variety of flavors to enjoy. Prices are reasonable and there's the option of a wine club if you want to explore more than just an afternoon of beverages or have favorites you plan on enjoying regularly. You don't have to participate in a scheduled activity to just visit on your own, but it can be an added incentive to make the drive out. They close at 6pm.

The lady behind the bar ar Six Shooters Cellars on 6/13/26 (who I assume was the owner based on…read morecomments she made) was extremely rude. I've never left a review for anything, but I think people should be warned... if you're a white man with a beard or married to one, avoid this place. My husband and I went with some friends yesterday. My husband had never been to Fredericksburg, and I had only been once many years ago, but when I went many years ago, Six Shooters Cellars was one of the places I visited and I liked it so I wanted to show my husband and our friends. My husband doesn't drink wine, so I was excited when he decided to do the tasting with us. The lady said we could share tastings amongst the 4 of us, so our friends chose 6 and we chose 6 to share. My husband actually chose some, so when we got to the first one he chose, I said "hey this is one you chose," and this lady behind the bar said, "all white men with beards choose that one" and we were all kind of like "damn, ok" and I said, "really? Huh, I was going to choose it if he didn't" and she said yep, sorry but 99% of white men with a beard choose it because they think they're Vikings but they're not. Now, the name of the Mead was "Fate of the Gods". It did say something about Vikings under it which my husband never could've read because he didn't have his contacts in. We should've left then but we didn't. We were kind of caught off guard. Then while I and my friend were still sitting at the bar our husband's were looking at shirts they had for sale. My husband brought over a fishing shirt to show me that he wanted. My husband doesn't typically wear these kinds of shirts but he and his friend were talking about going fishing which my husband doesn't do much. They walked away to look at more and this lady behind the bar comes over to me and my friend and says, "that's the most basic bitch men's shirt" and walked away. Wow, really, what the hell??? I looked at my friend , "ok, that pushed me over the edge." My husband who was in a good mood, who likes to support the businesses we visit and like, walked back up with the shirt he was going to buy. I really didn't want to ruin his good mood, but I couldn't let him in good conscience give that woman any more money. We had already paid for the tastings before she made the last comment. We left. Obviously this white woman has something against white men with beards. I suppose one did her wrong at some point, but as a business owner, why would you take that out on your customers? Maybe see a therapist instead!! And keep your discriminating opinions to yourself. I felt terrible for having been the one who suggested we go there.

The ones introduced at that time were the semi dry, Traditional Wildflower Mead and I believe the Cherry Nice to Mead You. I couldn't resist and bought the Wildflower which was delicious! I forgot the gentleman's name that represented that day, however, he definitely provided exemplary customer service while also explaining the process of how mead is made. He was very knowledgeable, approachable, and really represented this company at its finest! He truly exemplified the best qualities and aspects of the product he was representing, showcasing it highly and I truly admire that as it is very rare nowadays for somebody to go all out to showcase their product at the Pearl in such way. Thank you for your service once again, and I hope, especially as a veterans owned company, you will succeed and have many more followers to come! After looking at your website, I will definitely have to try that Lemon Citrus Mead sometime in the near future. Hooah! From my family to yours! Well done!
