I am a nurse practitioner myself and did a lot of research before deciding upon Visian lens surgery…read moreas I was not a candidate for less invasive procedures. I wanted to make sure the surgeon I visited had a breath of experience and training. After the experience I can truly saw I was impressed from my initial consult all the way through surgery and after. Dr Patel does fantastic work he is great at communicating, has a wonderful bedside manner and an amazing team of support staff. I wake up daily amazed that I can now read the clock across the room without glasses or contacts! I was so impressed with the operation aspect of the business, the entire staff is friendly, communicative, professional and values your time, investment and confidentiality.

But go ahead, ask your question." As if I was offending him by having concerns. As if by asking questions I was somehow challenging his expertise, rather than acknowledging it. As if this wasn't exactly the right time and place to ask questions. A bit shocked by his dismissive comment, i initially thought I should simply leave and find a different doctor. Then I thought about the weeks I had to wait just to get this appointment, and starting that process all over again, and I swallowed my pride and simply responded, "No, never-mind." But I also knew then that I would eventually write a review in which I told prospective patients this story, in case anyone preferred not to be disregarded in this way. To be fair, I am pleased with the results of my surgery. I had researched Dr Patel and never doubted his skills. But I was offended by his manner at that initial consult and believe that patients deserve to be treated better.

Although the doctors at Retina Center NW are outstanding, the apparent "triage" service is not!…read moreToday I contacted the Silverdale Retina Center because two days ago I had a retinal bleed in my left eye; I was hoping to make an appointment with Dr O'Malley who has been treating my diabetic retinopathy condition for many years. When I called to make the appointment, the woman at the front desk said I would first need to speak with a "triage" before she could make an appointment. She said the traige would call me back soon to further discuss my bleed & possibly make an appointment? Well, this day has passed, and I've heard nothing from the triage? Unfortunately, I've had a few quite negative exchanges in the past with the triages, when calling to schedule an appointment if I've had an eye bleed. On one occasion, the triage curtly stated, "didn't I know the bleed will clear in a few weeks"! Which is often incorrect because I've had bleeds that have not cleared for 21/2 months! What's more, you just don't speak to a long time patient like that, particularly given the recurrence of my retinal bleeds. The triages need proper training in dealing with patients thoughtfully & empathetically. I certainly hope this issue will be addressed for the benefit of all patients current & future at the Retina Center Northwest in Silverdale?

What a well ran, finely tuned experience. It was my introductory visit. i did not have a doctors…read morereferral, but with family history, i was able to get in. Meaning, when i called to make the appointment: i was "screened" to make sure i wasn't wasting my money. Day of appointment, empty waiting room, minimal wait time. I traversed through a 3 rooms (stations), 2 for assessments. First room : medical history, glaucoma test, eye dial action, and eye chart reading. Second room: my retina was images on 2 different machines. Third room - Dr O'Malley provided assessment. He has a thorough and sequential (apparent) first visit routine. Stepping through some basic eye physiology as a basis for explains the images and results. i'm normally a guy who likes to skip through the introduction and jump right to the end, but this tune i but my tongue and listened and went along for the ride. I'm glad i did. It's obvious Dr O'Malley read my induct form, and in a honest, direct and plain spoken manner, addressed things he saw - effects of genetics and efficacy of vitamins. In parting, he said i didn't need to see a specialist (like him) for a follow up in a couple of years. Meaning. he focused on the level of care i needed, not generating more patients (and money) for his practice. I went to a gucci (say Ferrari for car buffs like me) Doctor, so i could create a baseline to track any changes, so my next appointment is in 2 years.
