I had been waiting for mail to be transferred from NC , for some reason it never went through with the transfer info we gave in NC. The girl at the counter took care of it for me. My Mom needed to follow up with someone for mail to be delivered to her front door and I guess only one person does that and they weren't available.. The medical slip was dropped off months ago. And to this date nothing has been done for her.She haa put in a few calls and she is told someone will call back. I guess we will have to go in again to see what can be done to help her out.

If you mail anything via USPS, make sure it's something that you have a receipt for and then insure…read morethe box. I recently recieved the front of a cardboard box (the USPS box-cut it off and mailed it back to me with a form to fill out) claiming that all of my items were "lost"... yet the box was still intact but not one item was ever mailed back. Odd, I had no idea that the USPS's mail conveyor was suspended above a small black hole... I've used the USPS before and never had this problem, so I assumed that it was a crazy fluke accident. I was in the middle of a cross country move and the USPS was the cheapest option for mailing stuff, so the next packages I mailed (DVDs, books I acquired over the years, old family photos, etc.), I insured. This time the packages were ripped open in several spots as well as taped up where the box was completely ripped down the center. When I inspected the contents, several items were missing. Looks like someone literally kicked a hole in the box and was like; "let's take a looksy at what's inside" ...then continued to have at it like a caffeinated kid with a piñata. Here's the catch... since I didn't have receipts for these things: family photos, vintage books, etc. ...ya know, just things that have taken years to acquire, the USPS did not reimburse me for the package. That said, if you're traveling cross country and thinking of shipping things to yourself, ship clothes and take all of your irreplaceable items as carry on. If you want to read more horror stories about damaged and lost USPS boxes, just google USPS "customer experiences" with claims made for lost items.

There are fewer and fewer swing bridges remaining, so I made a slight detour off I-10 to pass…read morethrough downtown Milton and visit the bridge. Unlike bascule bridges (from the French term for balance scale) which lift one or more spans, swing or "twist" bridges rotate around a vertical axis to allow water traffic to pass. In Milton, the Blackwater River Swing Bridge only carries a single track of railroad traffic. Spanning the Blackwater River, the bridge is believed to have been constructed around 1882. It is of the "through truss" design. It is easy to photograph from the park just to the north (upstream). Other views are rather overgrown and in Florida, near slow moving water, I wouldn't recommend trekking through it. I was not able to catch the bridge opening despite handing out for short while though I did spot a train crossing the bridge. You'll hear the train whistle for a good few minutes as it has many crossings nearby. Early in the morning is best to catch the river at its smoothest for a good photo. I was out of the library and on my way away from the building as I was stopped by the police and informed I was trespassed from the library for stalking. Did I stalk anyone? No. Did the manager hate me? Yes. How do I know? She was trying to inconvenience me by excluding certain staff members from my interactions prior to banning me. She figured who I liked and who liked me and decided to put brakes on it because she could. When she saw it didn't bother me she did the above. Mia the desk librarian helped her a great deal at achieving this because she was jealous I favored someone other than her, some actual pleasant staff. Mia would always complain about me to the manager about who knows what which would always result in some type of action against me. Ultimately Gabrielle was the one who sent cops after me. With the manager's blessing of course. Cozy library other than that.

You can of…read morecourse drive the alternative route around the bay and take US 90, a distance of some 27 miles. Or you can take two bridges and cut across the island for a distance of 41 miles. But the bridge is a better option. Originally a four-lane bridge as far back as 1968, it had twin two-lane spans but was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. A new bridge was built to replace it, which completed in 2007. The bridge clearance is 65 feet and it is an amazing 13736 feet (westbound) or 13820 feet (eastbound). There is no toll on the bridge that carries some 50,000 vehicles per day. It is an easy drive with excellent barrier walls at the side and a shoulder lane. Local mills including this one employed 600 people amongst them and produced almost 55 million feet of lumber in the 1850's. It looks like a smokestack. The marker reads, "The Chimney is the only trace of what once was the first major industrial belt on the Gulf Coast, a string of antebellum wood mills and brick factories. The chimney represents the lumber industry of the Florida Panhandle. As the lumber industry prospered in the 1850s, local mills employed 600 people and produced almost 55 million feet of lumber. The bricks in the base of the chimney bear the mark of J. Gonzalez", showing that they were produced at the local brick plant of James Gonzalez. The chimney was part of the steam power plant for the Hyers-Knowles Mill. In March 1862, General Braxton Bragg was evacuating the Confederate forces holding Pensacola when Confederate Secretary of War Judah P. Benjamin gave the order to "Destroy all machinery private and public, which could be useful to the enemy; especially disable the sawmills in and around the Bay." The machinery from the mills was loaded onto barges which were moved into Escambia Bay. On March 10th a thunderstorm and large waves sank the barges. That same night the Hyer-Knowles Mill was burned, and all that is left is the chimney." Yes, Florida saw some conflicts between the Confederacy and the Union during the Civil War.
