This is my favorite Movie Theater in the whole State of Washington!!…read moreThere is no other theater, no other IMAX that compares to it at all! The screen is from ceiling to floor, and then some! It is absolutely huge! The stadium seating combined with the colossus of a screen means that there is not a bad seat in the house! The sound is impeccable and very immersive! Very loud yet well tuned! It will have great sound on both low range and high range frequencies. It is a nonprofit which gives you a little more warm fuzzies that the reasonable cost of your ticket is going back to the community. There are the standard modern concessions, with good popcorn, and also a variety of local beers, wines, and ciders!! Concessions are actually pretty affordably priced compared to other modern day theaters! Best place to see your event movie of the year! Some of the best movies I have seen here were Oppenheimer, 1917, Avengers Endgame, and Star Wars Episode 9. (Somehow, Palpatine returned... terrible movie, but at least the picture and sound were immaculate). Cheers!

My family and I had been looking forward to seeing The Odyssey for weeks. Tickets were sold out…read moreeverywhere, so we were incredibly excited when we finally got them. Unfortunately, the experience was one of the worst I've ever had at a theater. The seating is unbelievably cramped. If you're over 5 feet tall, prepare to be uncomfortable for the entire movie. The seats are small, hard, stiff, and offer virtually no legroom. Sitting through a three-hour film felt unbearable. What concerned me even more was how the auditorium is laid out. Once everyone is seated, you're essentially trapped. There are no aisles running through the seating sections, making it extremely difficult for people to get in or out without disrupting entire rows. It genuinely made me wonder what would happen in the event of an emergency evacuation. The concessions didn't make up for it either. The popcorn was stale, and the overall concession experience was disappointing. To make matters worse, seating is first come, first served, so if you want decent seats, you'll need to arrive at least an hour early despite already having purchased tickets. This theater completely overshadowed what should have been an incredible film experience. I would not return, and I would strongly recommend seeing a long movie somewhere with comfortable seating and a better auditorium layout.

I'd seen enough hype about the chocolate popcorn to finally try it myself. It was well-balanced and the portion was massive. My company and I barely made a dent in a medium. Tickets are about $20, concessions are expensive as with all theaters, but they are really lax on bag checks so on my visit, I saw a lot of outside food and drinks. SIFF is pretty popular for their chocolate popcorn which some people come solely for. It's a nice chocolate covered popcorn but I'd say overhyped. However, to accompany a movie? Pretty solid pairing. On the other hand, very disappointed that they turn off their fountain machine towards the end of the movie so that no one can refill their drinks. Fountain sodas are cheap and the cups are expensive, so penny pinching on that margin is sad. Regardless, it's a good experience and I'd definitely opt to not purchase concessions next time if anything.

Unfortunately, when we arrived the theater was almost completely full (even though it was still about 20 minutes to show time) and we had to sit in the second row from the screen. We were still able to see okay but it was a bit annoying. We would make sure to get there earlier next time. The bathroom was nice and clean. The concessions are priced lower than a typical theater. And you are still getting a lot of food. All the staff was very friendly and helpful.

It's my favorite cinema experience and worth every penny but sadly Washington state only has this format at this theater an hour away from me. You can spend the day here and never get tired of what is around you. There area loads to see and just when you think you are done, nope. Oh, Hump!! They definitely don't have film festivals like this back home! Hump! is an annual film…read morefestival that is typically held in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon. The film festival has gained in popularity so much that it has been touring outside of those two cities in recent years. The Hump! film festival specializes in home movie erotica, amateur sex cinema and locally produced pornography. Typically when each film festival is held Dan Savage is the host. Now I know the description of the film festival may sound like you are going to an adult arcade where you watch poorly made and grainy sex films but that simply isn't the case here. The amateur films are arranged where you can experience a whole range of material to the humorous and the sexy to the nerve wracking and the suspenseful. The films explore mainly straight and gay material but it does journey outside of those two sexualities as well. Most of the films are very well made and highly entertaining and not just in the stereotypical way that you may think with films like this. There are indeed rules that need to be adhered during the show. You are not allowed to have your phones out during the show at all. Anyone that does you could get your phone taken away until the end of the show. Another thing is that no jeering is allowed during any of the show at all. If you are involved in such a thing you are bound to be escorted out. And of course the obvious... this film festival is not an adult arcade so doing certain other... activities involving yourself is a sure thing you won't be at the film festival for long. When I went everyone behaved themselves. Always a good thing. When Steve and I went to Hump! I enjoyed all of the films that were featured. There were two that really stuck in my mind. I mentioned some of the films could induce suspense and there was one involving flash paper that you simply couldn't tear your eyes away from. There was several others that were very sensual and steamy. I give major kudos to the film makers that contribute to Hump! for creating these daring, sexy, artful and often humorous films. I would love to go back for another showing sometime!

Go to the corner of Republican Street and Warren Ave N (use directions for the restaurant "Taylor Shellfish" at 124 Republican St and you're there). Walk into the park from this entrance (August Wilson Way), and after a minute of walking your first right will be the SIFF building. It's tucked away and once you see it through the window, you have to make another left to get inside. Now for the review...I'm obsessed with SIFF and every cinephile in Seattle should support them, but I really recommend you visit their Egyptian theater in Capitol Hill or their Uptown theater in Queen Anne over this location. If the movie you want to see is only showing at the Film Center, be prepared for less comfortable seating and plan to show up early to find the theater. Google Maps takes you to the wrong spot (unless you follow the directions above) and there's no signage. Pros: + An impressive slate of art house, wide release, and seasonal film fest picks in line with SIFF's overall line up. Often there will be SIFF films that are only show here. + Many in person/virtual film appreciation one-night class opportunities. I took an awesome week night session analyzing The Shining that was pretty cheap and reminded me of college film courses! + No noticeable issues with the screen or sound. I've enjoyed every movie I've seen here...once I got there. Cons: - Hard to find location, with no signs directing you where to go. Google Maps will take you to the Space Needle, this is not where the theater is. During my first visit, I found myself wandering through the park in the dark for 15 minutes with no signs for SIFF in sight. This is like that college class that you can't find on the map your first day of a new semester. - Very small theater that's less charming than other ones hosted by SIFF. Following this college theme, the Film Center feels like an old school stadium style lecture hall. - Uncomfortable, creaky old chairs with no cup holders. Tips: * Punch in the address for the restaurant "Taylor Shellfish" which is at the corner of Warren Ave N into your maps app to park in the right spot. Cross the street to enter the park, SIFF should be one of the first turns on the right. * I've heard anecdotally that they don't let people in 15 minutes after the movie starts.
