We had to show our IDs at the door, which is fine and responsible. However, we also had to empty our pockets, get wanded with a hand-held metal detector AND I had my purse searched. Not a welcoming place. Still. We kept on trying! We got drinks, which were tasty and reasonably priced. The place is full of smoke and reeks of cigarettes. Not my style, but, it's a bar, so I can forgive. There was a sign on the wall advertising new kitchen hours for the summer: 8PM was the closing time, so we had already missed it. But there was another sign saying the kitchen closed at 7, so we asked. The barkeep said the kitchen closes at 6? Things aren't straight. They had a couple pool tables, an electronic dart board, and a small dance floor with black lights on. ... Not the chill hangout we were hoping for. It's not a sports bar. There were a number of TVs, all of which displayed a generic DishTV logo. No sports showing anywhere on a Saturday night. No food. Uncomfortable atmosphere. We drank one drink and left.

The bartender was cheerful and the other customers pleasant. As a bar, it's pretty typical of what you'd expect of a downtown dive in a smaller town. The building's interior is stunning -- the building is about a century old (perhaps older) and much of the interior is still the original. It's very beautiful in a rustic way. I've heard rumor that this is the oldest pool hall in Missouri and maybe even west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately I heard this rumor after my visit or I'd have asked the bartender about it.
