It's been a great "whole in the wall" or "watering hole" There's great staff and great drinks. We love the tater kegs and spicy green beans.

Food was great! Service was great! Atmosphere was noisy, but great! Even the new girl (who was a sweetie) did a great job as our waitress.

This time, at least, the service was impeccable and the hamburger was so delicious it hit the spot. I had been in the mood for a slightly charred burger and, in particular, from a non-chain restaurant in some smaller town or area. So, I suggested that we go to Warrensburg and visit that restaurant we ate at many moons ago. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived, so about 5 PM on a Wednesday, and not many people. The only aspect (and this is not the restaurant's issue) that seemed sad was that I mistook a homeless person in the bathroom for an inebriated person from their bar. I later learned that, sadly, Warrensburg receives a small population of these people from Kansas City, which buses them here. Anyhow, that is a side story. My husband ordered the Warrensburger (cute name, btw) and I ordered a Mushroom with Monterey Jack. Both burgers were charred to perfection. He ordered fries, and I ordered a baked mashed potato casserole (I get tired of fries) and unfortunately it wasn't warmed all the way, but it also had way too much black pepper, which I can't have. The waitress wasn't only accommodating and understanding, but made it a point to apologize, and shared apologies from the cook. I told her that there wasn't any need, and that she was very kind. She stepped it up and graced me with a fully loaded baked potato--no issues. Overall, the service, food, and everything here was fantastic and I don't suspect I will wait another twenty years again to visit.

Captain's Sports Lounge - SMÖRGÅSBORD

We walked in and the place was empty, which isn't the worst thing. We were greeted by our server, Maddy, and shown our table. Service was 10/10, very attentive. The inside of the lounge has loud music, lots of TV's ,and a bar to enjoy. We tried out the crab Rangoon and the Smörgåsbord. The crab Rangoons were amazing! Hot, crispy and flavorful, especially paired with the sweet chili sauce! The smörgåsbord was decent, all of it was pretty salty though. The queso was soup like and the chips tasted stale. The wings also had a very thin breading and the quality was okay. All around, I think Captains is decent, maybe a little room for improvement on flavor but still a nice area to enjoy.

Alas me matties after me daughters' graduation from high school the crew decided to drop anchor at Captains in Warrensburg for some much-needed provisions! After exiting the queen "Nissan Rogue" I noticed this place be ye from the Caribbean as I spotted a scallywag on top of the saloon! Opening the doors my seaworthy nose smelled grog and grub, what any good pirate needs. At least the Captain Sports Longue be located in safe waters without riffraff or worse, the Queens' Royal Fleet! Among me three deck-mates, matties included be: older daughter, younger daughter and boyfriend of older daughter. The sea casted a thirst that only be quenched by a bourbon and diet coke so I flagged down the bar maiden to open up a barrel of bourbon! The little lady be cute as a button however me good eye do profess, she was slow, and without many patrons made me question her motivations. Strike one for the land lover. At long last she gave us parchments detailing their meat and hardtack (old biscuits). My oldest daughter, the graduating one ordered the Ruben with an app of spin dip, the youngest ordered crab rangoons, the "lucky to be alive boyfriend" ordered their Napalm wings while I demanded ye old sesame shrimp spire. The little lassy showed up with the spin dip, pleasing to all of our famished bellies. They had a good mixture of artichokes to spinach with a nice kick of parmesan and cream cheese. The chips were also nice being fresh and crispy. The main provisions began to arrive and older daughter commented on her booty shouting "Arrrr... the Reuben be good, says I - the meat is succulent with just the right amount of sour kraut and Swiss cheese and it even has 1000 Islands dressing, 1 less than I have visited in my 18 years of sailing the seas!" Youngest daughter who likes to remain quiet as if the sea-dogs got her tongue whispered, Dad err... Captain Dad these crab rangoons be good says me. Since she be on my coin, I sampled one me self! Crispy wonton wrappers stuffed with sweet imitation crab be right fit as a hungry pirate's plunder! My grub be the catch of the day - the sesame shrimp spire. Foiled and betrayed says I! These weren't tempura at all, rather fried shrimp!!! Angry be me, said I as there's a difference between fried and tempura. Not failing to mention the slaw be nothing but shredded cabbage with a side of sauce for the shrimp! I'd be thrown in the brig for offering such a measly dish. The worst crime was still to be committed. For the boyfriend ordered Napalm wings. I be sitting on my throne waiting to laugh at such a stupid gesture. One, two, three wings went down and no tears, no ripping of flesh, no wailing of torture! I demanded: Walk the plank or tell me the secret to your resistance to fire ye landlubber? With a nervous twitch he shot back, these wings ain't hot, cappin! Arrrr, I responded with anger, let me try ye sauce. My hook took a small sample as I can't take heat and let my tongue walk on fire. Alas, what is this made of; milk of a cow, ice of the cream? These people lie of their provisions, it's not hot at all! My plans of watching the young deckhand burn in fire were thwarted! Ok, back to reality here, I've never been a fan of poor service from a good-looking lady. It wasn't the worst I've experienced but it was far from great. Next some of their menu items are misrepresented. The napalm wings are about as tame as they could be, as I would compare them to medium at other joints. The tempura shrimp was basically fried so an adjust on verbiage would help as I was disappointed in what I got. Overall, the place isn't bad but not great. Although the ambiance with plenty of TV screens and a large bar would be great to catch a live sporting event. Now then, be it that I be a pirate cappin', I won't be back as I live leagues away. If I do drop anchor in this port again I'd be tempted to stop by but only when I see two swabbies wrestling over stolen coins.

Players Restaurant Lounge - Said it was hot but it was cold and tasted like it came from a can

First, I used to live in Overland Park 8 years ago but moved to Austin TX so everything in…read moreWarrensburg seems foreign to me. I say that so people don't get upset when I say, Players Restaurant is located in the middle of nowhere, but it's in a safe nowhere! Pulling up was an exciting moment as my oldest daughter was graduating first in her class, a year early from high school and I hadn't seen her in a year. That said, I walked in about 4pm and almost no one was there. I asked the bartender if I could sit in the main room instead of the bar and she was cool with it. Players looks like a sort of Applebees with "crap" all on the walls but upon closer inspection, the photos are of local people. This tells me it's an authentic experience which I gained a much fuller appreciation. My daughters both said they liked the food there, and I was about to meet "the boyfriend" so I was anticipating the encounter. He walked in and I immediately made fun of him to put him at ease (my daughter warned him that I used to do standup) so the vibe was very nice. Next the waitress came over and was so vibrant and courteous that I was impressed. Now, I really liked a lot of menu items I saw but I wasn't that hungry. Again, I'll bring this back later, but could this "redneck restaurant" really make good Saganaki (Greek cheese) and Calamari? Needless to say, I was extremely skeptical however my sweet tea arrived and was spot on. I even asked for NO lemon and she didn't put it in my glass. Forgive my doubts as I used to be a chef so I can generally spot a disingenuous effort before trying it. First up was the Saganaki which came over a burner. Wow, they got part of it right! As an aside, the cheese can be one of many types with Halloumi or a type of sheeps milk feta that's shallow fried. That said, and I hope they read this to add authentic zest to the experience, it needs to be flambeed and hit with a shot of lemon to offset the richness which very loudly proclaiming OPA! Aside from the theatrics it was extremely good and the warm pita was on the money! Next up I had already determined I was making a mistake ordering the calamari. Well, I was wrong again. The squid were perfectly fried and crispy lacking grease that most restaurants think is ok. Players hit it out of the park with my only addition being I would have liked an aioli with it otherwise the dish surprised me. My kids both got fettuccini alfredo with chicken. I tried two bites and found it was average. The sauce was somewhat bland with slightly overcooked pasta. I think most kids would love it but after people build up a good amount of knowledge with quality dishes, this one fell flat. I'm not saying it's bad, but I wouldn't order it. The pork tenderloin sandwich looked good but I didn't taste it. I was dumbfounded by the huge tenderized pork outsizing the bun 3 to 1 giving it the illusion of getting a lot for the money. My daughters boyfriend assured me it was good and wrapped up half to take home. To summarize my review shows that one should never go in with preconceived notions about a restaurant before trying it. Players proved me wrong more often that I'm willing to admit. The staff are very nice, the restaurant has soul, and the food overachieves. If you're in the area I will highly advise dropping by for what could be the best food in town.
