Philly Steak Sandwich with Sidewinder taters.
    Vickey H.

My husband and I stopped at PJ's on our way through, traveling the roads of Oklahoma. We shared a philly sandwich and sidewinder fries. They were both delish! My fave were the sidewinders though. So crispy on the outside and full of soft tater on the inside. They are served with a sauce (not sure what) that has a mild kick that doesn't linger.

I love the onion twigs! The burgers are good and so are the pies and cake. A regular stop for us when we travel.

    Side Salad with Ranch

This hungry traveler gladly gives five stars to this slice of diner paradise. Stricken with hunger after driving hundreds of miles all over Oklahoma all day looking for my next property; I came upon PJ's shining brightly in the darkness, a food oasis in a seemingly desolate place. I originally passed it, made my left at the stop sign but felt as compelled to go back as I do now to write this review. I could see a couple families inside as I pulled my car in their dirt parking lot. I was greeted warmly as I stepped through the diner door. When trying a new place, I like to eat a familiar food or the food the are known for. My choice here was a burger or country fried steak, having the soul of a southern boy, I opted for the country fried steak dinner. The dinner came with one side of my choice, a small garden salad and a piece of Texas toast. The salad came out first with a side of saltines and I was immediately impressed by the appearance of the greens and tomatoes, both looks very fresh and it would surprise me if the lettuce wasn't locally grown. The ranch served with the salad was delicious and a nice portion size. When the main course came out, I was excited, it looked wonderful! I opted for the fried okra and it definitely was fresh cut and fried, that batter was light and more akin to a good onion ring. The country fried steak was a very generous portion and also fired in that wonder crispy, even batter that wasn't too clumpy and it didn't have too much cornmeal like other often do. I've eaten hundreds of country fried steaks and I currently deem this one the king, champion of all steaks country fried. I can't believe that experience only had a menu price of $7.99; it was so wonderful. A couple days later I ate at the Pioneer Woman's Mercantile and I couldn't bring myself to try her $27 country fried steak, knowing it couldn't possibly be three times better than y'all!

I was seated quickly and offered a menu, also advised about the lunch buffet, that day being hamburger steak and meatloaf. I was hesitant at first, because it's been my experience neither of those do well on a buffet, but when the customer next to me heard "meatloaf", she said "Is today meatloaf day?" with a favorable tone, so I decided to give it a shot. I love a good buffet and this one did not disappoint. The salad bar ($3.99 adder) was a solid old school salad bar. Plenty of toppings, enough to make a good meal on. The buffet consisted of the aforementioned meats, along with mashed potatoes, brown gravy, a pan of fried onions (NICE touch), corn, carrots and a couple other vegetable choices I didn't take advantage of. The meatloaf was some of the best I've had in diners, despite being on a buffet. Surprisingly, the hamburger steak was not at all dried out and had a really robust flavor. The potatoes were good, not sure if they were scratch or not, but they were good nonetheless. The gravy was for sure a packet mix, and it wasn't holding well on the steam table, but it was decent anyway. Service was outstanding, food was good and the price was reasonable. That's a win in my book.

I saw on a chalk board when we arrived that they had a special of wings and fries. I asked about them, and they were bone in but no sauce. Just fried wings. So I went with a chicken fried steak dinner instead. I like to compare all of the chicken fried steaks in Muskogee. My side salad was simple and tasty with house made ranch. The gravy was very good, and the Texas toast was thick. The downfall was the chicken fried steak. It's a frozen one just deep fried. It was good, but I love a hand breaded chicken fry. The burgers are fresh and not frozen though because the husband had a Cajun burger. But we aren't sure why it was called Cajun unless they just used Cajun spice. 2 teas, a chicken fried steak dinner, and a burger and fries was $35 though, and I think that was just too steep for the quality of diner food. I think mainly because we are spoiled in Muskogee by several other fantastic diners with extremely cheap prizes. I think if I go back to Back in Time, I'll get breakfast. It seems to be the most popular option.

The waitress who…read moretook my order over the phone and took my payment was very kind, with a good attitude, and answered the phone in a timely manner. There were a few families enjoying dinner in the restaurant. The atmosphere was clean and pleasant. I ordered the fried chicken dinner with grilled mushrooms and a loaded baked potato. The chicken was a square piece of white meat chicken with no bone. It seemed more like chicken fried chicken with no gravy. I got maybe 1/4 cup of grilled mushrooms if that as seen in the photo. The photo shows my untouched meal. The loaded baked potato, which I paid an extra $2.50 for, had a little shredded cheese and bacon, nothing else. No butter, no sour cream, nothing, just a dry potato with cheese and bacon. They placed 4 packets of ketchup in the bag as well. The food was salted heavily for my taste, the grilled mushrooms more-so than the other food items. I ordered an unsweet tea with this meal and paid $21 and some change. I felt over charged and my meal didn't fit what I expected to received. I would like to add that I have had their breakfast, salads, sandwiches and burgers and they were ALL very good, no complaints, which is why I rated 3 stars. This is the second time I have attempted dinner and have been disappointed. In my opinion, this is more of a breakfast/lunch restaurant.
