A nicer staff you couldn't find- servers & men shoving pizzas in oven went out of their way to be personable & check on each customer despite being busy. Dine-in experience on tavern side was cozy like eating at a good friend's house (but one who has a basement bar). The food was decent- not necessarily the rave in other reviews but I suspect some town loyalty kicks in & that's just fine. I'm hoping a few more experiences will help get me there. I appreciated the homemade feel of the food. Sandwiches used homemade rolls (delish). Ordered small Grilled Ham & Cheese & Cheesesteak. Great if paired w/ some pizza, small if it's all you're ordering. Sicilian pizza had nice crust- extra cheese, pepperoni, mushroom. Did I get the extra cheese, not sure, seemed standard amount & big pet peeve of mine. Overall good, but a little bland (which is characteristic of the taste of the area). Would've appreciated a spring of fresh basil on there or some spice in the sauce. Check was a little high & I didn't appreciate credit card surcharge on top of higher priced pizza, but do understand the struggle of a tiny business in a small town. My wife started talking about this place months before we actually got to Womelsdorf! It lived up to all the hype she gave it too! Nice mix of cheese and sauce with rich tasting pepperoni with a delicious soft crust! The pizza cheese steak was mouth watering from the first bite! I stopped in approximately 2 weeks ago for lunch. It was after 1 pm and there were no customers inside. Nor did anyone come in to dine or pick up take out during the entire time I was here. I ordered a large cheese steak lunch special. The fries were fine. The soda cup was full of ice and approximately just 2/3 full of soda. They still do not offer free refills on soda here. The cheesesteak meat was so finely chopped, that it had a off texture and taste. Something I would expect in a nursing home? I also asked for some pickle slices to put on my cheesesteak. They told me that would be .75 cents extra. I declined. I thought it was strange that the two employees behind the counter were watching me eat as if they were waiting for me to say how terrible this cheesesteak was? I didn't say a word and will probably not be back. These guys are freaking awesome! Great atmosphere. They remember you and make a habit of treating you like family. The food is the real highlight. I recommend the cheese steaks. They make their own hoagie rolls fresh everyday. They even make dessert out of the dough. A fresh batch of hand rolled donut holes deep fried and then tossed into a brown paper bag with ample amounts of sugar and cinnamon. They melt in your mouth! A plain cheese pizza is so delicious that I can find no match in any other pizzerias in the area. The other pizzerias bake theirs to death and dry it out. I've been a frequent customer since I was 4 and the owners know me by name haha This place has been under the ownership of a true Italian family (actually they're from an island country right off of Italy, but close enough). so they know how to make amazing food. I've been getting their pizza for years and what I love is how delicious it is while hot, cold, or microwaved! Their toppings are great and always fresh. Their wings are awesome and I personally favor the 'wing dings' even though they're just fried wings. They're so juicy! Subs and sandwiches are fantastic, and the bread is what makes them soo tasty. I even had one of their cheeseburgers, and even that was really good compared to many other burgers I've had! Lastly, their salads are great, my mother always raves about them and only orders salads from them because their ingredients are so fresh. Bottom line, support P&J. If you ever find yourself in Womelsdorf, PA, you MUST try P&J's. They make, hands down, the BEST italian sandwich ever in the history of the world. The bread is perfect, the ingredients are fresh....the price is soooo cheap (about $4 for a large sub/hoagie/whatever). They have pizza and all the normal pizza shop food...cheese fries, chicken wings, etc... The town is something to see...very historic (P&J's is right across the street from Stouch Tavern...previously reviewed). Just a short drive out of town and you'll find yourself on windy, tree-lined back roads with old bridges and houses from the 1700's. I am SO hungry for a sandwich right now! Weee! read more

This place is tasty - my grandparents live in Womelsdorf so every time we visit, we have to order from P&J's. You know it's authentic when you see 4 Italian guys working in the very clean, very tidy kitchen with giant ovens. Their pizza dough is perfect, not too thin, not too thick, cooked the right amount of time. The toppings are fresh and they load them on the pies. The Italian sandwich is really to die for - the bread is so soft and delicious, I could eat a loaf all by itself. The ingredients are really flavorful, with meats and cheeses and lettuce and tomatoes piled high, but not too high. It's not messy, which is always my problem with those types of sandwiches. This is my favorite place to get an Italian sub. Have been coming here since I was 10 and even though I live across the country now, it is always on the list of things I must eat when I come back to the area. The food is so amazing that I still have their phone number memorized so that I can order takeout from my rental car. The bread on all the sandwiches is the best you will find.
