What a waste of time and money! We expected SO much more!
My wife and I took a rare moment out of workdays to have a date lunch and as we'd heard such great things about this place just down the road so we decided we'd try it.
12:00 we walked in to a nice bright open box restaurant with only about 8 tables in the place. Quiet for a lunch but that should bode well for us as we hadn't a lot of time.
Our server came by with a smile and the generic "How are WE today?" The "we" was in everything she asked we were soon to find out. My wife ordered a cappucino and I a water. The cappucino was quite small and extremely bitter, and my water came with no ice and tasted chemically salty (from my 30+yrs in the restaurant biz I knew the taste was rinse agent from the washing machine). Our server was no where to be found so I waved over the mgr(?) who got me another with some ice. I informed him of the taste and its cause but I'm not sure it didn't fall on deaf ears as the replacement still had that same flavour. As I sat there I even noticed the backwards set up of the cutlery on the table. I know, a bit picky but it's still something easy to get right....right? (play foreshadowing music here LOL)
"We" were ready to order ( my wife had the mish mash omelette and I the club sandwich which is impossible to mess up and a true standard). After a moment the server came back and asked me if I wanted the korean chicken sandwich or the truffle burger as she couldn't remember. I corrected her to the club sandwich with a chuckle and "oh yeah...my bad". About 5 min later I asked my wife what toast she had ordered and we realized that we never were asked. Again, we flagged down our server and asked about the toast, ordered it with a chuckle "oh yeah...my bad." and walking away.
About 15 minutes later our meals came to the table and the portion size was good. The omelette was generous with the ingredients and the potatoes were simply deep fried cubes with a bout 3 strands of burnt onion mixed in that may have been on purpose???? The flavour of the omelette was good (according to my wife) and was actually generous enough of a portion that she brought home a portion with the extra potatoes to have later.
My club sandwich and fries was a whole different thing. It was one piece of dry and proper toast with barely a whisper of mayo and wilted leaf lettuce and super thin cut tomato slices (you always split up the veggies and meats between the two levels), then the middle bread which was slightly soggy but not too bad with again a whisper of mayo then bacon (the best part of the sandwich) and a piece of white, flavourless, something that was supposed to be swiss cheese(not a chance as swiss has holes and a more pronounced flavour and darker creamier colour) and a properly grilled chicken breast as a lump in the sandwich then the wafer thin soggy piece of what once was toast which had been transformed by the weight of the sandwich pushing down as it sat flat on the plate for waaaaaaaay too long trapping all the steam and making in gooey. I actually flipped my sandwich upside down to allow for it to dry out prior to eating. The shoestring fries which are seasoned with what I believe to be chicken soup base were plentiful while undercooked and floppy. Bland and pale with zero enjoyment, but for the flavourful bacon, is the best way to describe this plate.
When our server came over and asked if "WE" are all done I said yes, thankyou and that my wife would like to take the rest of hers home with her and that we would like our bill (lunch dates don't last forever). She said of course the picked up my wife's food and started to pile dirty dishes on top of the food! I quickly told her that my wife wants that food (not to put dirty baskets and plates on it) and yet again we got the old faithful "oh yeah...my bad!"
We paid our bill and left with an attempt to sanitize our hands on the way out only to find that their dispenser had 99.9% had ran out. That, by the way after our experience, was NOT a surprise. read more
