On a recent road trip we saw a sign for Oz Winery and knew we're going to have our first detour. You can't miss this on the road into town. We were warmly welcomed and told of the options. We did one of each tasting so we could ensure we tried everything! Our host was engaging and chatted with us the whole time. We left with a few bottles as well. I've said it once and I will say it again; I am not a wine drinker. I rarely drink it but when there is a themed winery based of a classic movie, I have to check it out. My friend and I decided to do a tasting and were able to try 5-6 different types of wine. A lot of wines were in the dryer side. The bottles are also themed after the Wizard of Oz so it makes a perfect souvenir. I ended up buying 2 bottles as gifts. My one complaint is how expensive the bottles are. Both bottles that I purchased were around $25 dollars each which is more than what I'm used to. I did enjoy the winery overall and it's a perfect stop while visiting Wamego read more

Went to the Oz Winery cause I love wizard of oz so much. A friend of mine that lives in Kansas she took me there. When we walked onto the winery the lady said hi to my friend but not to me. She proceed to ask my friend what she would like and taste not once acknowledging me. This small town is so racist. I was the only brown person here. The lady at the winery was so rude to me completely ignoring me. I would have buy items from there if she acknowledge that I exist. If you are of any color besides white don't go to this place! read more

This is a very nice little winery tasting room that has been completely remodeled. The gentleman serving was really nice and although I'm not a wine drinker, I really enjoyed a sweet wine he suggested. We even took a bottle home. It looks like they have a few snacks, but could probably use some other food items. We will definitely be back to check them out again. read more

It's an absolute must to stop here right after visiting the Oz museum. A cute winery located in the heart of downtown Wamego. Like almost the rest of the strip, it is themed after the Wizard of Oz. The wines all have names with some correlation of the movie, and even the designs on the bottles tie in as well. It's important to know before doing a tasting that there is a small selection to choose from; maybe 7 or 8 wines. You can try two for free, or more with a small fee. I prefer sweet wines and there were only 2, so I just stuck with my free pours. The Squished Witch was my favorite, which is a berry wine. The Fraidy Cat was another great one! The wine was a bit more on the expensive side, $22-$28 for one bottle. They've got a lot of fun trinkets in their gift shop as well. read more

The wine is decent and we had partaken after the Oz Museum, and relaxed and had some wine. Why 4 stars if not a fan of wine? Food, service, and atmosphere was amazing! We booked a private party and there was a small hiccup with our reservation but the staff was so accommodating and knowledgeable about the wines and foods. Our party was in a private room in the back that was perfect for our date. We had a great time chatting learning about the different wines. I'm not necessarily a wine connoisseur but, we tasted a total of 10 wines? I think and I absolutely LOVED all but one; we ended up purchasing two bottles. The cheeses, chocolates, and jams paired so perfectly with each wine. They did NOT skimp on the snacks either, we were absolutely stuffed with wine and finger foods by the time we left. We even got a discount on merchandise for booking a party. HIGHLY recommend the pepper bacon jam and the goat milk caramel. read more

On my second visit to Wamego, KS I finally stopped into the Oz Winery. The customer service was top notch and the lady who was there was super welcoming and knowledgeable. She provided a couple complimentary samples and I ultimately purchased a bottle of wine to go. I also ordered some of the chocolates to go. The dark chocolate peanut cluster and the amaretto truffle were amazing and I regret not buying more. I didn't care for the double chocolate truffle. read more

Such a lovely and sweet little establishment! My husband and I were looking for a few bottles of Oz wine to take home from a recent trip and ended up spending about an hour there and purchasing some nice things to be shipped home. Our sommelier, Brooke, was very helpful, incredibly friendly and a lot of fun. She allowed for us to sample several wines of varying tastes and even included some caramel chips to bring out the flavor in a dessert wine we tried. She absolutely went above and beyond in helping us choose without just telling us what to buy. If we're ever in Kansas again, we'll be sure to drop in again. The place is perfect going of a theme of the wizard of OZ all there bottles have a unique name/label based of it like Squished Witch. They are all different types of table wines not aged they all still have a unique delicious taste. They have a free limited tasting perfect for me as we came into town as a day trip. Seems like it would also be a fun place to just sit and have a glass with maybe some of there artisan cheese or chocolate. Bottle prices are reasonable with the quality of the blend and the creative oz theme. Finally someone in Kansas has done something with the whole "Wizard of Oz theme"! Wamego,ks. is so small if you closed your eyes to catch some z-z-z's you'll miss it. You go through miles and miles of corn field foads and then you enter the Emerald City. Well, not really. A few stores and thats about it. BUT, in the midst of this you'll find "OZ Winery. Inside is a small counter for some tasting in plastic cups.She let us ( 7 in our group) have a taste of every single wine. Their good.You can find a couple you may want to take home. All have plays on the OZ theme...like "Run Toto Run", Emerald City Lights, Witch gone good, Witch in a ditch,O.E.O...and on and on. They have a pretty good gift shop as well . It is definitly a stop for those tourists in your group. It was a fun stop.But I think tasting every wine and singing in unison....O.E.O....ohhhhh oh......was the best part! read more

We stopped in to check out Oz Winery during our time touring through Wamego checking out the Oz sites and were not disappointed! They had a wide variety of wines to choose from-- the first 2 samples are free, which was all I needed to find the perfect bottle! If you do need more samples you can do wine flights, 3 for $8 or 5 for $15. My favorites were Home and Yellow Brick, the latter of which I purchased! The bartender/cashier was very friendly and helpful in picking out the wines, describing their aromas and flavors and helping us with our experience! If I'm ever in Wamego again with time to spare I would love to sit down and do a wine flight with some cheese and chocolate! We decided to make a detour to the Oz Winery while driving from KC to Concordia. The winery is a store front in the town of Wamego, which surprised me a little as I was thinking it would be a farm with tasting room, or something like that. The store is pretty cute, with lots and lots of Kansas and wizard of oz knickknacks to buy. Tastings are free up to 8 samples, which is very generous. All the wines have cute wizard of oz names and the graphics on the labels are very well done. Prices per bottle seems to be $20-$30. I bought a red called Angry Trees (A dry Chambourcin with hints of dark berries and a pleasant, tannic finish) for $25.00. They also sold some cheese, which I though was a nice touch if you wanted to pick up a bottle and cheese for a picnic or something. I would definitely say the wine is table wine quality at fancy wine prices. If you're a Wizard of Oz fan, this place is a must. If you like supporting local business, this place is a must. If you are really into wine..... idk. I found the wines to lean more towards the sweet side, so if you like your wines sweet I'm sure you like the offerings. read more

WOW! The OZ Winery? How quaint! We HAD to go in! With the Wizard of Oz, you'd think some magic is going on right? Well, not here. The place is very cute looking and the bottles are beautifully packaged with ketchy names like witch in a ditch or toto's brew or stuff like that. Why 2 stars? Well, we sampled quite a few of their wines last summer when coming back from the Kansas State fair and they just weren't up to par. We wouldn't consider buying any of them. Fairly certain that taking a little detour from Lawrence to Manhattan was worth it. Wine tastings at this too-cute-for-the-city winery on Wamego's Main Street pleasantly be-speckled by lights and Christmas-y ornaments is an excellent idea. The full-bodied Oil Can, the driest and most vibrant of Oz's wines, is sure to please the most discerning palates. Without a hint of resin or a touch of "too old," this wine is a smooth as fine vermouth. That said, the reds are more delicious than the whites, for which even the driest chardonnay was still too sweet for this girl's Goldilocks medium-loving palate. read more

Oz does have Very clever wine names & labels which make me smile. You must like sweet wine to enjoy this vintner- I can compare this wine to more of a Honey mead- which is pleasant to drink, light, sweetness to every variety. Oz Winery sells a variety of wines themed to the Wizard of Oz as well as complimentary items, like cheeses, crackers and jams. They offer a tasting station, where you can get two 1-oz samples for free, a flight of wines for $8-12 or wine by the glass. We opted to try two samples each. I tried Where's Toto and The Lion's Courage. My husband went with Curl Your Stockings and Sip... and Drink. We're not the biggest wine connoisseurs, so take our opinions for what they are worth. I really enjoyed both of my options. I enjoyed the raspberry undertone of Where's Toto. The Lion's Courage was a bit heavier, but it was also very good. It was served with chocolate chips, which always make everything better. David liked the Curl Your Stockings, but was less impressed with the Sip... and drink. He ended up buying a bottle of Curl Your Stockings, so we'll have the opportunity to try it with a meal the next time we have friends over. I think it would be interesting to take their production tour. We've done that before at other wineries and it is always amazing to see the care and work that goes into making a great wine. They are also looking at adding Culinary Wine Tours, which sound interesting. Oz Winery is about an hour and a half away from our house, so I probably wouldn't go just for the wine, but if I am in the area again, I'd definitely stop by. read more

We have lived in Wamego and we have lived in Sonoma/Napa County - so we are familiar with both terrains and both places have a place in our hearts and histories. My husband and I were excited to hear of this establishment in Wamego, however, we moved before it was open. We have since returned to Wamego and visited Oz Winery and were not impressed. Prepared to make some substantial purchases, we were ignored as the proprietor opted to chase a lukewarmly interested customer about the room to sell her a $13 bottle of chard. Good wines but not a real inviting place! Can't stand the signs on the tables saying the tables are for people ordering wines. Is the place that busy where you need those signs? It sure wasn't when we stopped in. If you need those signs on busy days then by all means use them. But other days it makes people feel uncomfortable with your establishment!!! I wanted to order some chocolate and sit and eat it but didn't because I felt I would have not been invited at the tables. Also there were two employees there on the weekday we dropped in. Both employees were not friendly at all. Being we were the only four patrons in the store the employees can't use the excuse that they were too busy to be friendly and accommodating to us. I've been to Napa. I live in a state with a phenomenal wine region. However, I opted to get of the beaten path en route to Junction City and see what the Oz Winery in Wamego was all about. The town is sleepy. Reminds me of a miniature version of the one in which I grew up. The Oz Winery is, however, cute. They have a big selection around the Wizard of Oz theme. I opted for a white called "I'll get you my Pretty" and a red called "Curl Your Stockings". The white was so/so...but so/so doesn't work for me at $20/bottle. Haven't tried the red yet. Stopped by to revisit after having been there years before. Shared some memories for which they could have cared less. Horrible atmosphere, zero info on the wines and a very uncomfortable feeling that we were somehow interrupting something. And no, you don't ever get used to Grace just standing behind the bar staring off into space and saying nothing. Huge disappointment. Planned on buying a few wines, ended up getting nothing. The wine is really sweet and light bodied, which is good for table wine. It's all about the novelty, we probably won't buy any again for ourselves. We planned this as part of a day trip to Wamego. After lunch and after the Oz museum, we headed this way. It was a Saturday afternoon in late October and was very, very busy. We were lucky to get a seat. (Nothing special going on in the city that weekend.) The place was cute and well decorated, but I was a bit disappointed by all the chaos. We couldn't really sit and linger and enjoy our selections because of it. OR talk to the staff who were too busy to really even focus on one group. I 'spect during the week it's a bit quieter. ...maybe it's time to consider an expansion of the tasting area? Whatever you do, please do NOT take your children here. It's an adult environment and they won't enjoy themselves and will be bouncing around and making general nuisances of themselves due to sheer boredom. The wine was good. The names and descriptions well thought out and priced about right. They would make nice gifts, if you have someone who'd appreciate a Kansas wine. They also have a small selection of some artisan chocolates and cheeses - we didn't try because we felt obligated to let someone else have our seat and moved along - but they were displayed beautifully. read more
