The daughter thought this might make a trip and was she correct. They have a decent wine ( We bought A Bottle of the Seyval Blanc) and sat out on their veranda and enjoyed the view, the breeze and the company of the folk around us. it is quite a drive and I think the wine was better than another winery near by ( I use the term near by loosely, It is rural Kansas). Is it the best I have ever had nope but you can see the potential as they continue to improve. The service was on point, they have some great local art and goods that are pretty amazing. So if you get a chance to drive by and sit a relax, it maybe too hot outside but they have some very comfortable indoor seating. Good times with decent wine. read more

Great little winery! It's at the end of a dirt road, among the grapes in a good sized building. The patio has a lovely awning with grape vines to protect you from the sun. The patio is dog friendly too, and they sell little doggie bags with treats that benefit a local vet who provides care for the homeless and their pets. All the wines were really good, but the sangrias were excellent- the white sangria leaned key lime flavor, which I thought was very unique. Loved the candles they sold too- everything smelled wonderful! read more

In an unfortunate situation our car broke down on the way to the winery just a few minutes away. One of the staff members was driving by and saw our distress, then offered to take myself and my husband up to the winery instead of having to walk. The owners were WONDERFUL. They were the nicest people and offered to help us get rides back to town and still accommodated with our wine tasting even though we were late for our reservation. The wine was wonderful, the shop was cozy and clear. Ambiance wonderful for a nice wine tasting. We had drinks on the patio with french music to vibe to while we waited for AAA. I would recommend this wonderful winery to anyone. I picked up four new candles and some delicious looking cheese. Recommend trying the Storm Chaser Red or White, wonderful flavor profiles. If you ever get the chance to visit this gem in Paxico, I highly recommend and I am so thankful for the lovely people who helped us today! read more

What a cool place! Tucked just off of I-70 at Paxico in the beautiful Flint Hills, this winery has some VERY tasty wines! They have a wonderfully inviting tasting room and offer a Kansas-focused selection of cheeses, etc to go with your wines of choice. A hiking trail leads up through the vineyard to a beautiful scenic overlook. And the heated party space looking out in the vineyard makes a relaxing spot to sit and eat cheese and drink wine. Stopped by here as a last minute stop and it was perfect! Though we weren't sure if we were in the right place due to having to go down the dirt road. But at the end of it is a big winery and there shop. The $5 tasting flights are worth it! Had fun tasting some wine and looking around at other Kansas items. Though it seems like it would be a perfect place for big events we didn't really have time to explore the actually vineyards. Though the person was really friendly and informative about all the different wines we tasted and any questions we had. There were also some really unique artist items around the shop for sale. Defiantly going to have to look into there different event they have and plan a trip back out. read more

Stopped in for the first time for a tasting. Apparently you have to have a reservation as they couldn't get us in for 30 min even though the next group hadn't shown up and the first group was done. The wine was ok but would have loved to try more. Views of the flint hills were nice read more

Got a rain day off work so thought we would try this place out. Was surprised how friendly the people were good the wine was. They make wine from their own grapes and all was good. We tried several and even got a bottle and sat on their patio. They had live music on the patio and that even made it more enjoyable. I would recommend spending a afternoon just relaxing and having some wine. They were pet friendly and they ask us to let our dog run around the open area and she had a great time. She enjoyed just relaxing and listening to the music. We will be back soon. Ps. We will be taking some wine home so we can remember our time here!! read more

My wife and I discovered this hidden gem of the Flint Hills after having a horrible experience at Schilling Bridge Winery and Micro Brewery the day before (see my other reviews for details). The staff was friendly and knowledgable about the products they offered. The wine tasting was superb as they didn't give us just a splash of each of the samples. I prefer the dryer, my wife likes a bit sweeter, but not pancake syrup sweet. They recommended wines for each of our palates, both were spot on. We ended up buying two bottles of wine before leaving. Walking about the grounds with our dogs was a welcome and serene break from the troubles of life. Sitting atop the hill and looking over the vineyards and the rolling hills beyond, the cares of everyday life seemed to melt away. The owners (husband and wife) took the time to meet the guests... to make us feel like long lost friends. We didn't feel like just another customer. They were even welcoming to our dogs. They made an effort to meet and pet them both. The front porch of the business even has a dog watering dish off to the side to provide drinks for our furry four-legged friends. The wine is good, the atmosphere is epic, the location is sublime. We will be frequenting this establishment whenever we find ourselves in North Eastern Kansas. read more

Beautiful winery with AMAZING wine. My boyfriend and I headed here because we had a free Saturday, and we're so glad we did. At first we were a little skeptical because it's basically in a small house, but once we walked in, the atmosphere was very welcoming and family-run. We did a wine tasting, and the young woman who helped us was so knowledgeable and friendly. We especially loved the Frontenac and the prairie punch. The Storm Chaser white was also incredible. We also grabbed some sangria and went on the walking trail- it was still the tail end of winter and everything was dead, but still beautiful views. We hope to come back in the summer to see everything while it's green! Highly recommend. read more

I stopped in here on my drive from Topeka to KC. I had no clue that Kansas had a wine country, but it does. This was one of a handful of wineries in the area, and in my opinion this was the best one. It is not super easy to find and you have to drive a bit on a dirt road, but the ambiance once you arrive is really nice. You could walk up the hill or enjoy a class of wine on the patio. I paid $5 to sample 5 wines, but they were letting everyone sample one of the reds and the sangria, so I really got to sample 7. The vignoles was my favorite and I bought a bottle to take home. If I had more time I would have gotten a glass of the sangria and sat on the porch awhile, but alas I had a conference to get to. However, they were more than happy to give me the recipe for the sangria to make on my own. They also do cheese plates, so you could potentially have a really nice afternoon on the porch here with your wine and cheese plate. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. This was a great stop and if I am ever back in the area Prairie Fire will definitely be on my list. read more

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door. We were shown around the tasting room and our host pointed out the grapevines that could be seen from the tasting room. We could see the owner working on the Chambourcin vines up the hill. Our host was very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. We particularly enjoyed the Frontenac wine. They support other vineyards in the area as well as local producers of cheese and sausage. We will definitely return again. read more

Accidentally found this Winery on the way to OZ Winery. We were so glad that we did. It is set off the road near the Flint Hills. They have a couple of guest houses for people wanting to stay longer at the Winery. They let you go all through their fields to look at the vines...they even provide BUG SPRAY!! They have beautiful colored pottery. The labels on the bottles are so creative and fun. they do not give mini samples either! When you get to the top of the vines rows, you are overlooking the Flint Hills. It is amazing and there is a table to sit and drink your wine while overlooking Paxico, KS. We will definitely be back! read more

A nice little drive down a gravel road leads you away from the interstate and into wine country. The wines were all fairly good, there wasn't one that I truly did not like. This place was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise! Lived in Ks my entire life and driven by a 100+ times and never thought it would be worth going. Just stopped by and the wines were delicious! Especially the mulled wines, and I don't typically like mulled wines! The Storm Chaser (both red and white) were also really good! Once you get off the interstate just keep going straight down the dirt road and follow it to the end, and you won't be disappointed! read more

This is a great little winery tucked down a gravel road in the prairies. The owner/server was incredibly knowledgeable and made tasting their wine a real treat. She explained that they do controlled burns of the prairies and vines every year, and that the photos on many of the labels are those particular grape vines being burned. There was a great view out the window so I'm sure it would be a stunning site to watch them burn (which she said usually occurs in April). The tasting room is in a home, and there are a few rooms with seating set up so you can enjoy a bottle and some snacks there. They had some delicious artisan cheese available (not made on site, but I'm pretty sure it was local). We split a bottle of Traminette (delicious!) and enjoyed cheese and crackers and reading about Prohibition in an old library book left in one of the rooms. We also got several bottles to take with us, and I would definitely go out of my way to return here. Great winery! read more

Wonderful little find. Stop in late in the day you may get the owners to serve your tasting. We got some nice wine, a restaurant recommendation and lots of interesting local sights to see. I think we would have gotten an offer to stay for dinner if we hadn't already made the dinner plans earlier in the tasting. We have visited several wineries and were looking forward to spending the afternoon enjoying the experience at Prairie Fire Winery. While the location has amazing potential, the actual site left a lot to be desired. It was cluttered with lots of old junk and makeshift structures. We were actually warned by staff about the picnic tables tipping over. We had pleasant conversation with one woman in the tasting room/gift shop, the other woman was rude. We arrived early for our tasting and had planned on buying several of the unique items we had seen in the gift shop, but wanted to wait to see what wine we preferred. I am not sure if we were targeted because we did not immediately make any purchases, but we were approached outside by the owner, Bob DesRuisseaux. His behavior toward us was bullish and confrontational and so awful, we left before our scheduled tasting. We do not recommend anyone make this drive and spend the money to sit outside and try to overlook a cluttered, junky view, just to drink wine. The day was not lost though as we ended up in the small town of Paxico, KS. The antique stores are top notch and we spent several hours (and some of the money we planned on spending at Prairie Fire) at the local bar, the Long Branch. The owners there, Mary and Jamie, were very friendly and fun to talk to, the bar was spotless, and the food very good. We recommend skipping the overpriced, deteriorating winery and spend your time, and money, in town. read more

Just visited for our first time. On our way to Salina from St. Charles Co, MO so we know our wineries. Don't let the gravel road scare you it's well worth it. (and only about a mile.). The scenery is very peaceful but even better... The wines!! Great selection, variety and absolutely wonderful! Ron was our host & he was fabulous!!
