I went to Oxnard Mazda after receiving a promotional email offering a free oil change. I scheduled the appointment for a Saturday expecting to have a simple oil change completed. After waiting for over two hours, Adrian came out and told me there was a problem. He explained that while they were attempting to perform the oil change, the oil panel had broken. He told me that the cap was metal and the panel was plastic, and that this was something that could happen with newer Nissan Rogues. However, I was also told that Mazda was not responsible because whoever performed the previous oil change before I owned the vehicle allegedly did it incorrectly, which caused the panel to break while Mazda was servicing my vehicle. Since it was the weekend and there was no manager available, I was told they would provide me with a loaner vehicle at no charge and that someone would contact me Monday to figure out how to move forward. On Monday, Adrian contacted me and told me the repair would cost almost $1,000. I was given two options: either use my extended warranty and pay a $400 deductible, or have CarMax cover the repair, but I would have to pay the entire amount upfront and wait for CarMax to send me a reimbursement check. I explained to Adrian that I could not afford that. I came in for a free oil change and was not expecting an unexpected repair bill of nearly $1,000. I told him clearly that I did not have the money to pay for this repair, especially with rent and other expenses coming up as a single mom. Adrian then suggested that I apply for an app called Sunbit and told me that I would not have to pay anything upfront. I followed his instructions and applied. I was approved, but Sunbit still required me to put down almost $300. I called Adrian back and again explained that I did not have any money available to put toward the repair. Despite me repeatedly explaining that I could not afford this repair, the work continued. I never authorized paying nearly $1,000 for this repair. The only service I originally approved was the oil change. When I returned Tuesday to discuss my options and try to get my vehicle back, I spoke with a manager named Chase. Unfortunately, I felt that he was dismissive and unwilling to work with me or hear my concerns. I explained that CarMax had confirmed I was still covered under warranty and that if the vehicle had gone through CarMax's process, they would have covered the repair and I would not have had to pay anything upfront. Another thing that was extremely concerning was the change in the repair price. On Monday, I was told the repair would cost almost $1,000. However, when I came in on Tuesday, the total had somehow changed to $715. No one clearly explained why the price changed so drastically for what I understood to be the same repair. Being quoted one amount and then seeing a significantly different amount the next day left me questioning how the original estimate was calculated. I was told that Mazda would not release my vehicle until payment was made and that I needed to return the loaner vehicle. I was also told that keeping the loaner could result in a $75 per day charge. This entire experience was extremely stressful and frustrating. I came in for a promotional free oil change and ended up dealing with a situation where I felt pressured to find a way to pay for a repair I was not expecting and repeatedly explained I could not afford. Thankfully, I was able to borrow money from someone so I could get my vehicle back, but no customer should have to go through this after coming in for routine maintenance. Between the lack of communication, the changing repair estimates, and the way this situation was handled, this was one of the most disappointing dealership experiences I have ever had. I recently had my vehicle at Oxnard Mazda for a repair inspection, and I was disappointed with how the situation was handled by my service advisor, Chase, who I was told is also the manager. The repair involved another dealership that was responsible for payment, but Oxnard Mazda would not accept payment directly from them and required the check to be issued to me first. Because of that, there was a short delay while waiting for the check so I could pay Mazda. I explained this ahead of time and gave them the exact day the car would be picked up. Once the repair was finished, Chase said the car could not stay there and mentioned storage fees, even though this was never discussed before and the delay was due to the payment process Mazda required. Because of this, I had to rush to get help from family to pay sooner than planned, even while I am currently recovering from gallbladder surgery, which also made handling the situation more difficult. I was also told there was no space to keep the vehicle, while the back lot appeared to be full of employee cars rather than customer vehicles waiting for pickup. After finding the exact car/model (through a cars.com search) that I wanted at Oxnard Mazda, I requested the e-price from their internet site. I pretty promptly heard from Freddie who equally promptly returned with an out the door price that beat any other price for the same make/model in a 250 mile radius. I was concerned with such a great price, something else would get compromised---not the case. We coordinated on a time to come down to test drive the car and complete the purchase. The only misstep in the whole process was that the agreed upon day I planned to come ended up being a day off for Freddie--which I did not know until I drove 2+ hours to get to the dealership. But another sales associate (Oscar) took over and worked with me on the actual purchase. He quickly addressed the assessment of my trade in and gave me a price I was quite happy with (and was robust enough I was able to pay cash for the remaining portion of the car price). I was in and out in just a couple of hours. There were no hard pressure tactics to buy anything extra by Oscar or the finance guy (who handled the purchase agreement signatures). The staff detailed my beautiful new ride while we completed the purchase process. My sister was approved for a grant under California's Driving Clean Air Program (DCAP). The purchase had to be an EV that met certain requirements. After searching online and looking at a few cars, we found a promising late model car at Oxnard Mazda. I called and spoke to a salesman. I explained that I would have drive 135 miles each way to see the car in Oxnard and my sister would have to drive 65 miles each way, so I needed to confirm that Oxnard Mazda was approved to participate in DCAP. Not only did the salesman confirm that they were approved, but he checked with his manager and said the manager also confirmed that they are approved by DCAP. We drove to Oxnard, drove the car, obtained a lot of background information and decided to purchase the vehicle. The first problem was that the salesman brought us a purchase agreement that included four dealer add-ons (like a windshield protection program and a LoJack theft protection program) that totaled over $3000. They didn't ask in advance and then said the add-ons were mandatory. When we headed for the door, the manager came over to say they could remove the add-ons. Very unethical. They then made us wait 2 more hours for the finance person. We were using DCAP and cash, so no loan involved. The papers reflected DCAP, and we made a $500 cash deposit. They said once DCAP payment was okayed, that Oxnard Mazda would deliver the car. Two days later, Oxnard Mazda called to say that they weren't approved to participate in the DCAP program after all. It took them over 10 days to return the deposit, we traveled 400 miles unnecessarily, and we spent over 4 hours at the Oxnard Mazda dealership - all for no reason. I had the pleasure of purchasing a new 2025 CX-50 Hybrid in the Preferred trim level yesterday after returning the leased 2024 CX-90 I leased from Oxnard Mazda the previous year. The sales manager I worked with, George A., was very friendly, straightforward to negotiate with, and knowledgeable about the programs. George's sales person Marcus helped me select the CX-50 I was interested in, made sure it had all the features on my must have's list, and explained some of the key differences between the CX-90 lease I was returning and the CX-50 I ultimately purchased. After agreeing to a deal, the finance manager Richard explained all of my options available to protect the new CX-50 based on the number of miles I drive and the length of time I plan to keep this new purchase. I was pleased that the options I selected, the pre-paid maintenance, g.a.p. loan protection, and the extended service agreement, were explained thoroughly so that I understood the cost to benefit ratio to make a selection that most benefited my use of this vehicle. After all the paperwork was signed, Marcus had the new CX-50 cleaned, fueled, and immediately started pairing the Mazda app to my new Mazda so I didn't have to mess with it later. George came over to congratulate me and thank me for my business. The whole experience was excellent and really reflects the culture of professionalism instilled by George as the sales manager. Now that it's a day later, I can say my after sale experience has been just as great as my purchase experience. Very disappointing experience at Oxnard Mazda. I went to see a red Ford F-150 and dealt with Tim Green and Amauri Aguilar. During the test drive I felt a strong vibration and rough shifting. When I asked about it, they claimed it was just "turbo lag," which clearly did not match what I was feeling. When I asked to take the truck to my own mechanic for a quick inspection, they initially refused and kept insisting that they are a big dealership with a good reputation and that the truck could be sold to someone else if I didn't buy it right away. They also tried to push me to purchase an extra warranty instead of simply allowing an independent inspection. After a lot of back and forth, they finally allowed me to take the truck to my mechanic. A trustworthy dealership should never have an issue with a customer getting a vehicle inspected. The whole experience felt misleading and ended up wasting my entire day. After weeks of follow-up, the final outcome was that no one would complete the transaction, and no meaningful effort or goodwill was offered to resolve the situation. General Manager is either getting fed bogus information or don't want to know the truth about what happened. You should get the facts right before reaching out about the entire ordeal that happened that day. There is two sides in the story and you're getting fed the incorrect information. I contacted Oxnard Mazda through CarFax. I was looking at a used cx30. Good listed price and milage, no accidents. When talking with the salesperson, I was given the final out the door pricing. It was $10,000 higher than the listed price. Turns out there were over $7300 in unnecessary add on's. When I questioned the validity of them and asked they be removed, I was told they are factory installed and could not be removed. The lie here is that these are installed on a new car. So why would a dealership charge for them again on a used car? Price gouging. They balked at the $4000 extended warranty i refuesed, the car was still under factory warranty. So, I said no deal and politely ended the conversation. Then other salespeople began calling and texting all day and into the evening. I got pissed and told them to leave me alone STOP!!! Still they did not honor my wishes.
