    The flight!!

This is thee spot! This spot is so reasonable and just really good. Upon arriving here I really did not know what to expect. There's a Muriel where you can take pics at and it's really done well. Very Louisiana -ish I must say! Walking in it looks like a regular bar with rhe option of outside seating. This.spot you can also do Rum Walking Tours that you can book ahead of time to secure your spot and date. The cocktails are reasonably priced. The bartender was very knowledgeable of the rum options and even though I got a flight it felt like I was being schooled on the rums and collabs in flavors that went into the distilling process. Very very good! Overall great spot!

Such a unique experience - touring Oxbow Rum Distillery in downtown Baton Rouge paired with a tasting of the rum flight.

While driving across Louisiana, we made a stop in Baton Rouge to visit another rum distillery. The exterior was ideal for a photo, and we lucked out on timing, narrowly missing an impromptu parade. Our server, Caleb, was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing the distillery's history and the reasons behind its name changes (more details in my Yelp review). We sampled several rums, starting with the Rhum Louisiane Cane Juice Agricole, a delicious white rum. Next was the Barrel-Aged Straight Rum at 95 proof, with subtle notes of plum and chocolate--a smooth and enjoyable pour. The Single Barrel Rhum, also 95 proof, had hints of vanilla, providing a wonderfully smooth experience. The spiced rums each had unique characteristics. The False River Spice Rum, my favorite, had a blend of botanicals with hints of citrus, vanilla, and cinnamon. It had a touch of sweetness and was a great one to save for last. The final tasting was the Barrel-Aged Spice Rum, aged in bourbon barrels, which offered a smoky flavor profile. Each rum was exceptional--these were the best rums I'd tried all day. If I hadn't been flying, I would've taken home a case! Fortunately, I'll look into shipping to PA. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the False River Spice and, without a doubt, this was my favorite stop of the trip so far. Highly recommend!

The craft cocktails are beautifully presented and taste amazing!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Oxbow and highly recommend a stop in to taste the delicious rums being distilled there. Jimmy was a wonderful bartender and host, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the different spirits. When we arrived, we were greeted with genuine smiles and welcomes and were immediately impressed with the decor and natural vibe. We definitely felt comfortable and welcome. We opted for the full tasting and were impressed with the unique flavors of each pour. Although we didn't get to participate in a tour we were able to glimpse the impressive copper still! After our tasting we each enjoyed a specialty cocktail that was mixed perfectly and presented beautifully.

Strange day. Walked in at 5 pm on a Sunday afternoon. They close at 6. No one in sight. Meandered around for about 10 minutes with another couple of perplexed customers. Turns out the single employee was giving a tour. He came out. He let us jump in on the last part of the tour. We jumped in on the tasting for $10. Tried 4 rums, the unaged came juice (a bit grassy/vegetal for me), the white rum (alcoholic burn), the barrel aged (ok), and the spiced rum (decent) From there I sat at the bar for like 2 minutes while the Ryan flirted with a cute lady that was convinced knew him from New Iberia. After being invisible, I paid for the tasting, at which point he asked if I wanted a cocktail. No solo dudes allowed, perhaps? I'm not from the area, so wouldn't be returning anyway. None of the rum was good enough for me to buy a bottle of.

Awesome little spot with a lot more going on than I thought. I figured it was just a distillery but was surprised at the bar and amount of food offered. Will definitely be back when I'm more prepared for the experience. Go try it for yourself!

My mom and I enjoy distillery tours so I checked out Groupon to see if they had anything new, which…read moreis how I discovered this little gem. I paid for the tour in advance and ended up adding the tasting while we were there. When we arrived, we received a nice big welcome from Brian. He escorted us inside and introduced their resident mixologist Ann, she was quite lovely and makes an excellent cocktail. Brian mentioned that he was waiting for a few more people to arrive, so mom and I ordered something off the menu. I selected the Gallagher, which consisted of fresh watermelon, cucumber, lime and your choice of their Crescent Vodka, 3rd Ward Gin, or Tresillo Rum. I chose the 3rd Ward Gin. The cocktail was very tasty and refreshing. Mom chose the Freudian Slip - Crescent Vodka, pear, honey, lemon, and basil. It was also incredibly good and both drinks were beautifully presented. I loved the décor of the tasting room. It was pretty with a relaxing atmosphere. While we waited, we had a nice conversation with Brian & Ann. I told Brian that I came to NOLA so I could watch the fireworks on the Mississippi and was sad when I found out that they had been canceled. Brian said, "Well, I just heard today that the show is back on because Will Smith paid for it to happen." Apparently Will Smith was in New Orleans filming a movie (Emancipation) and when he found out the city canceled the fireworks show due to lack of funding he stepped up and paid for it. I was so excited when I found out. I've always been a fan of Will's work but now even more so since he made my bucket list happen. When the other guests arrived, we were given a welcome cocktail to take with us on the tour. It consisted of the Tresillo Rum, some spices, coconut cream, and soda water. It was yummy. I could have drunk about 5 of them. Brian was an excellent tour guide - very entertaining and informative. Cajun Spirits is a family-owned business that was founded in 2010 by Gus Hank. Their spirits are crafted in custom copper stills and made with locally sourced ingredients including Louisiana sugarcane. After the tour it was time for the tasting. In front of us were 3 snifters: one with Crescent Vodka, another with 3rd Ward Gin, and the last with Tresillo Rum. There was also a small carafe of water and a dropper. Brian instructed us to take a sip of the vodka. Then add a drop of water with the dropper and sip again to taste the difference. The water helps to open the flavor profile. (They filter their water on the premises.) When the tasting was over it was time for the grand finale - a complimentary cocktail called NOLA Rose. (Which happens to be my mom's nickname) It was delicious! Ann really is an amazing mixologist. I'm so happy I found this place. I definitely recommend the tour & tasting and also come for the cocktails, which are a steal at $8. They also have food trucks and live music on certain nights so visit their webpage for a schedule of events.

You will not believe what goes on behind their door until you take a tour in their distillery. This is local New Orleans flavor at their finest! We booked our tour through Groupon (best deal ever)! Gus aka Joey developed his passion abre 10 years ago to put New Orleans on the radar for distilleries. His family, his wife and brother Edward were very nice and down to earth! So the entire time of the tour, I could not wait to get back to the tasting area and try it out. From the very first sip, I fell in love with this stuff, bought 2 bottles to go back to MD. It didn't take long to finish those, so I actually ordered 3 more to be shipped to me. Since they wouldn't ship alcohol to MD, I scheduled them to be delivered near our WV cabin, so what do they do?? They shipped them, but I still actually had to go to CUMBERLAND, MD to pick up the box!!! Anyway, every year on our trips to New Orleans, we'd stop by the distillery and buy at least 3 cases of Gingeroo, and I still have a few botles left, but it'll really be a sad day when that last bottle is opened. Most of my friends do not see what's to like about Gingeroo and they can't understand just why I love this stuff - I get teased a lot about it, but, hey, not everyone likes the same things. Due to their fire and closing of distillery, I will always be upset at myself for not buying more cases. The owner is an artist, and a very good one at that, so I guess he's just wanting to concentrate on that. But, I will always be so sad that the distillery is no longer open.

I liked that the head distiller was on site and was a New Orleans native. Tastings were plenty and I probably never would have tried these different types of rum otherwise. All in all super happy with the experience for the price and even managed to discover the Gingeroo and grabbed a bottle to take home.
