We each found images of what we wanted to create online and were able to trace it onto the canvas. Since it was our first time, we all opted for the small canvas but in retrospect, maybe the medium size would've been easier as the tufting gun is harder to maneuver in smaller sections. The staff was very helpful in providing instructions and staying close by as we worked on our projects. Once we were done, we left our mini rugs to be picked up another day since the staff would put the backing on for us and clean up any loose ends and such. Definitely looking forward to coming back and making an even bigger piece!

This shop in Arcade Lane opened recently and it is situated in a cozy area near Urth Cafe. It is bright, colorful, and hard to miss. The perfect place to draw in lovers of all things Kawaii. Service: the shops man is the absolute sweetest and not only took time to explain the concept of the shop, but he also showed all the artwork and some of his own work! The Mahjong bag is so impressive! Lumee offers tufting for carpets and supplies the tools. They also offer decoden cases, trinkets, hair clips, bags, and more! Locations have a variety of different experiences so check ahead! Overall: I was able to make a trinket for around $8! It can also be upgraded to a magnet and you can walk-in if you want to! There's a huge selection of unlimited charms and icing colors to choose from. But warning!! Don't grab too many charms because whatever you don't use, you have to put it back. The table stations have all the tools you need to decorate your items from tweezers, glue, scissors, etc. The employees are super sweet. They showed us a demo and assisted us in putting our charms back. The parking was easy and cheap. There's a del mar parking lot right around the corner across the street from the gas station. We'll definitely come back to make our own plushies next time.

Yau, originally from HK, has an extensive background and experience in artistic ceramics and glass. Given my genuine curiosity and interest in pottery, I asked him questions on his beautiful ceramic work. Staff was affable, knowledgeable and professional. Prices seem fair but depends on the design. Having seen his work just walking by, and small run-ins with his work at fairs and local restaurants, I decided to approach him with a near-impossible request -- I am the youngest of 8, and my father passed away in 2021. He drank coffee from the same mug every morning for over 40 years, but only one of us was able to take home that piece of him. It was a unique style, as all pottery is, so I've been sitting on this project for a few years. Yao was not only up to the challenge, but we discussed timeline (not important; I said they'd be ready when they're ready as long as it's by Christmas) and agreed that he would give it a try! Several weeks later, he let me know that he was still working but had finally nailed the unique shape. Several weeks later then, he let me know that he has finished them, but would like to keep trying because the unique (40+ year old glaze) was difficult to replicate and he'd like to try again. Three batches of eight later, Yao produced some of the most beautiful mugs I could have imagined. My family is so grateful, and I can say with full confidence that I will recommend One Cup Studio as long as Sierra Madre is lucky enough to have such a wonderful shop!! We've got a few of his original pieces in our home; his bud vases are precious and his bowls and tea cups are so pretty - but I will be forever grateful for the best Christmas gift I've ever pulled off - and I couldn't have done it without Yao's care and mastery!!!
