    duck wings
    Nina S.

Came in again because I LOVED the duck I had here months ago. Ordered: duck wings: small portion for the price but they were indeed fall of the bone tender, crispy, and smothered in a sweet and savory sauce beef poutine: the cheese curds had melted into puddles but the side ate like a hearty meal, good portion of beef, though fries were just okay double cheeseburger: piled high and juicy but again, just okay Overall I'll still be back supporting the restaurant that has served me some of the best bites of food, but I'll be focused more on their duck or special new items. Check them out on IG for their specials!

Burger plus egg with fries really good just the right size I opted for the single!!

Food was fantastic very flavorful service was on point no issues whatsoever very quiet small place get in early like we did, it fills up quick!!

This is a lovely neighborhood place with a good selection of seafood, pasta, salads, the requisite burger, and a few vegetarian options. There are some decent local beers, craft cocktails, and the usual standard bar offerings. The decor is what I now consider standard for southern Maine restaurants of a certain quality - brick, wood and Edison bulbs. The tables are a bit close together, which maximizes the seating in a small place, but depending on who you are seated next to, can make it challenging to have a romantic dinner ;) We had crab cakes for an app, and I had the Bangs Island mussels app for my entree. My husband had the Thai scallops with peanut sauce over pork and egg fried rice. The crab cakes were small but tasty. The scallops special was delicious- never would've imagined a peanut sauce on seared scallops, but man oh man was it good. The mussels were fresh and large, but I was not a fan of the tomato based sauce. What really made our experience however was the awesome server who was very personable and easy to joke around with, but also knew when to give us space. We will definitely go back when in the area!

Chicken and Waffles, over cooked fried chicken, and the waffle tasted like eggo waffles.

This place is in a quite location, friendly staff, our waitress was very attentive, and nice, the restaurant was cozy and inviting as well. The downside and the 3 star review is the food. Edit - I forgot to mention that the mac & cheese was great, so when you go, try it out.

Excellent experience! We stopped in after work and arrived during happy hour. We ordered the brussel sprouts and fries for an appetizer. Followed by the corner burger and hummus shareable plate. All terrific! The waitress was attentive and took care of us pleasantly. We will certainly be coming back again. The outside seating area is welcoming and just the right size. Thank you for a lovely meal!

Duck leg ($30). Good flavor but far too small for the price (and I zoomed wayyy in). This was a $30 entree!

A very good restaurant that is a bit all over the place with prices and portion size. While I'm still not sure exactly what Owl & Elm is, I am excited for a return visit. It's a small space that fills quickly, and fortunately accepts reservations. The vibe is more bar than restaurant, which I prefer. The menu is almost too good, making it nearly impossible to try all of my favorite options. It's mostly comfort food (burgers, carnitas fries, chicken and waffles, fish and chips) mixed with more upscale choices (steak, salmon, mussels, etc). The pricing has a wide spread, from generous deals (a sizable burger and fries for $18) to near fine dining (steak and salmon are both $36). Portion size is luck of the draw. My duck leg special was $30, and while it might have worked on a luxe kid's menu in the Berkshires, it was embarrassingly small for an adult. And I'm not a big guy. A single duck leg resting on a barely-larger pile of parmesan potatoes, this was a $30 snack. Same with the mussels. There might have been nine in the order, which is possibly the least I've ever seen. Yet the buffalo cauliflower was large and likely my favorite in years. The burger and steak (served with impossibly fluffy and buttery mashed potatoes) were also perfectly sized, and received raves. The drink menu is exceptional. My tequila cocktail ($12) was light and refreshing. There are numerous wines at great value and a strong selection of local beers. Owl & Elm is an interesting spot, melding a bar atmosphere with a mix of comfort and upscale food. It would just be great to have more consistency, so ordering a satisfying meal isn't a dart throw.

Bar with great whiskey, scotch, bourbons!

Ooo and the corner with all the clowns! Drinks are strong and cheap. The bartenders are friendly. There's a patio, but it's a bit small. There are plenty of comfy chairs/couches. They have live music pretty often, so if that's your thing, you'll be happy there on weekend nights. The only thing is the space is kind of small for live music, so it can get really loud. This is an excellent chill option if you're in Hallowell and want to skip bars that tend to get a bit fratty like The Quarry Taproom. Highly recommend!

I was already in a foul mood, walking in here set me into straight sensory overload. It's a bar where they sing. I am unable to get inebriated enough to enjoy bars where they sing any longer. Call me miserable, maybe I suppose. In addition to the merry old fella belting it out on the mic, we had the joy of having some drunk guy in a large group behind us try and out sing him without a microphone. He even challenged the old guy singing to a form of a duel. Anyway I was so off, I cannot remember anything about my server at all. Nothing. I do remember almost screaming and running out. I sat there trying not to lose it while my wife had the time of her life. Every song made it worse, everyone else is singing, I am dying. When the guy took a break, guess what, dickhead from the crowd goes up and takes over. Shots helped at this point and the weed is kicking in well at this point. Now I'm hungry... My food was inedible and I'm pretty sure incomplete as well. The worst flatbread in the history of flatbreads. Everything was aesthetically pleasing but I did find the muscles overly sauced with a little too much salt for my palette. The lobster flatbread was fine but nothing spectacular since the flatbread was not made there. Lobster meat and corn were sporadically covering the bread. Very good for a shared appetizer. Raviolis were great but since they were stuffed with peas and to have them with pea sauce is a little bit too much but again it was tasty. The scallop dish was on the pricey side for just three large scallops with pea sauce. Apparently they use their homegrown peas in the garden which is organically good. Crab cakes were delicious. There's a little band playing in the pub on Sunday nights. Good place to go to eat after checking in the hotel.
