Got lots of gardening tools from here. Staff is usually helpful but ive had some issues with them trying to not honor sale flyers posted in the store. Had to make them walk to the aisle with me on more than one occasion to prove that the price was marked lower. And the attitude of employees arguing over who's job it is to inform counter of sales or remove old tags is unprofessional. I was denied use of the bathroom with my 5 year old child because as i was told "we cant trust people." they only let her use the bathroom when i informed them i would not be cleaning any accidents off their floor. amazing how quick employees decide cleaning urine and feces is beneath them and let a child use the potty.

I'm scheduled to be in KC on a project in October. This is July. I stopped by Schutte to inquire about what's available in a knotty T&G 1 by 6 for a job in October. The guy immediately gives me a speech about how he can't price anything or discuss availability for October. We just don't know what we will have in October, blah, blah, blah! The guy was making me want to throw up on his shoes. I get it. It's the "Covid Curse". Here is my issue. He didn't offer one solution! Actually all I could think about was this,.... If I owned this business I'd fire his negative sorry ass! I was ready to buy today for delivery between tomorrow to October. I'm tired of problem solving for people who are supposed to be in SALES! They lost about a $15k sale today.

MIXED REVIEW Explanation will follow. I was quite happy and…read moresatisfied with the way both the local store and the corporate messaging handled my issue. However, the delivery company they use (I believe it is Door Dash) was VERY lacking. As in on the 3rd day I had still not received my "same-day delivery" and I had prepaid a nice tip for the driver. I was online shopping for some kitchen items I needed to replace. I was planning on either going to the store to pick it up or do curbside pickup. Once I had reached a certain amount an ad popped up for free same-day delivery. Why not, right? It's less than three miles, so I was not concerned about a delivery holdup. My order confirmation arrived at 10:31 am. I clicked tracking and the message read that I would have delivery by 9 PM Monday evening. No delivery on Monday. I messaged the automated system and they checked my order and eventually connected me to a customer service representative. He checked my order and told me it was released and was ready for the currier. I was not overly concerned once I heard that and assumed I would receive it on Tuesday. On Tuesday in the early afternoon, I had still not received my order. I called the store directly and they told me the entire order indeed had been processed and was still at the store. I asked if they had drivers delivering that day. I was told they did and it should definitely arrive in Tuesday. That evening I returned home about 10 PM. No package. I checked online to make sure I had not missed a delivery. Again I was connected to a customer service rep who looked up my order and said it should be ready and I could expect it the next day. On Wednesday I had some errands and stopped by the store and checked my order. The young lady at the return / customer service desk contacted someone who checked abs said the package was STILL at the store. He retrieved it for me. I mentioned that I had pre-tipped the delivery and would like to get my money returned as it had, in fact, not been delivered. I was put in touch with a store manager who was gracious and returned my tip. Everyone I dealt with at the store was very kind, patient, and understanding. One of the nearby cashiers said they had a woman just the day before with the same issue. I would NOT recommend trying the same-day delivery as the company they contract with (Door Dash) does not appear to be very reliable. Henceforth, I will either do curbside or in-store shopping. .

His immediate and enthusiastic response was "I finally got to visit Harry J Epstein!". I was not familiar with the business even though I had lived in the Garment District. He explained that as a woodworking craftsman he bought a lot of his high-end tools on-line and had them shipped to Canada from KC because of the top of the line and rare items that HJE carried. He also told me that they will create a wonderful hand drawn piece of art on the order if you request "box art". He urged me to visit and this week I popped in before heading to work. I'm not a craftsman or even a slight handyman, but my visit was amazing. The quantity and variety is mesmerizing and I only visited the ground floor and basement, the top floors I saved for a return visit. I now just have to determine what my carpenter buddy needs as a Christmas present before returning. The journey into the basement was quite memorable, it felt as if wandering down into 19th century Kansas City's underbelly. I feel quite out of touch that it took a foreigner to get me up to speed with a 90 year old Kansas City retail icon. I so glad that such an old business has kept itself relevant and grown it's sales and reputation internationally in the digital age. May Harry J. Epstein Co prosper into the next century.
