Wish I would have checked the reviews before coming here. First off, the communication here is garbage. Depending on who answers the phone will determine what kind of info you get. Then when they say they'll follow up with you they don't. Then the vehicle takes longer than expected but they don't call to let me know. I have to dig the info out of them. Finally, after pickup, I notice a lug is missing off my spare. I call to ask and they claim no knowledge. The only way this lug comes off is with a lock, which they had. So now on top of the !4800 they charged me, I'm going to be out another $1K to replace the rim that is now damaged. I highly regret coming here and highly recommend taking business elsewhere. read more

Overland 4X4 fixed the aftermarket ball joints on my 4Runner and did it right. They gave me an honest estimate, didn't try to upsell me on anything, and got the work done quickly--had my vehicle back in just a couple of days. After five years of searching for a solid 4x4 shop in the Alexandria area (after moving from Colorado, where good off-road shops are everywhere), I've finally found the one. Their team is thorough, experienced with aftermarket parts, and clearly knows their stuff. Labor might be a little more expensive than a dealership, but the quality of work and peace of mind are absolutely worth it. Yes, yes, and yes! We have a Land Rover LR2. Overland was absolutely great. I called them for the first time and the gentleman I spoke with was very pleasant and detailed. I was having trouble explaining the noise we were hearing from our car, but he was patient with me and talked it through. He then explained they would charge us for looking at the car and what that hourly rate was, asking if that was ok. We were on board and scheduled our appointment. We did a night drop and heard from them the next day. They talked us through the issues and told us the cost. I can honestly say, I was nervous to hear the outcome because it's an old car, but Land Rovers can really hurt your heart when there's an issue. However, the price was extremely reasonable. We were relieved! They had to keep our car for a few days to get the parts in and they were very transparent throughout the process. I car now runs well and without any concern. I thought that as a long-running mechanic shop they'd be able to at least give me a guess, or give any amount of guidance as to help me figure out what I would need to pay for the setup. We are from out of state, but have a student in Arlington. We sent our DD in with her worn Trooper, which displayed about every possible warning light including 4wd failure. Former oil service shop couldn't find the problem. The team at Overland was able to diagnose the root cause and repair the transmission, which had caused sensors in other areas to show errors.... which were actually symptoms of the trans. Not every mechanic can or will diagnose a complex system and nail the issue first time, but Overland did. Overland also took the time to fix a couple of nuisance issues while they were working on it that we are happy to have done. Trooper is quieter, has power restored, and doesn't look like a holiday light display on the dash. Warranty is good. They also advised us about another issue that needs attention when we can; after this experience, they are the only people we would consider asking to repair the truck. Highly recommend Overland. I took my (very old) Jeep here for some repair work; when it gets hot, my Jeep hesitates and stutters awfully, and sometimes straight up dies. The whole time my Jeep was with them, they walked me through what was going on and always kept me updated - which I was grateful for. Unfortunately, the first fix did not solve the problem, which is upsetting with any vehicle (spending money, problem still exists - though my Jeep is old, and probably has a ton more issues). However, Overland did everything they could to diagnose the issue, and did let me know what they believe was causing the problems. I ultimately opted not to do the following repair to fix the issue (not worth the cost), however, when I went to pick up the vehicle, they walked me through everything they had done to it, and discussed the issues I was having with me thoroughly. As a customer, I really can't ask for more than that. I'm overall really impressed with Overland, and plan on continuing to bring my vehicles here for service. read more

Update 8-9-2021: I quit going there, due to a rude employee and, as it ends up, I am discovering they did not install the new lift trim along with other parts they were supposed and charged to install. I guess they threw them away. I sent a message to them, but doubt anything will be done due to the time lapse. Oh well, I guess I have to buy the parts they threw away again and locate and pay another mechanic to install them. The lack of decent auto shops in this area is sad. read more

John, regarding your comment about going "above and beyond" is blanket distortion of facts. I don't live an hour away. I never presumed to wait while you work and you had the jeep at least 10 days and as I recall the facts, your game plan was to put it on an alignment machine to see if frame was bent. Furthermore, I entrusted in you to make the necessary repairs on a reasonable timeline. I was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan by the fall and you had the jeep in early summer. That's a reasonable expectation I established and I had a back up vehicle. Very little was resolved at your shop. Your team was unresourceful and you were unresponsive. I asked you to correct the notorus wobble. You provided no sound recommendation and blaming the jeep is ridiculously insightful to all who review this post. I use to stick to dealerships because I could track what service had been done. Out of necessity I tried overland4x4 for an oil change. The treated me well and got me in quick. Really nice guys, but the could not fix the problem with my vehicle. What started out as a relatively simple ask turned into a "i need to replace this, to troubleshoot that, to make this work etc etc. All in all over a thousand dollars later and the problem still existed. I just found out that Overland 4x4 has been under completely new ownership since 2013. The new owner, John, is clearly a Land Rover enthusiast and it shows throughout the shop. Overland's waiting area has been remodeled with nostalgic Land Rover posters, various display parts, and comfortable chairs. I returned to the shop due to some issues I had with repair that was performed prior to John's ownership. In short, I noticed that a part on my P38 Range Rover had not been replaced in 2013 but I was charged. When I mentioned this last week, John, without hesitation, refunded me for the part over a year later. John also offered to look over my vehicle without appointment to confirm all other repairs were performed correctly. Overall, it's clear that John and Overland care about performing repairs and service correctly, working to earn customers trust by fully standing behind their work, and not just concerned about making the quick dollar. As a former mechanic, I can confidently say that it's just as important to find a shop which can perform a repair at a competitive price as it is to find a shop that you trust will stand behind each repair without hesitation or hassle. Overland 4x4 to the rescue! I found myself stranded with an overheated FJ60 Land Cruiser on the side of the highway near the Eisenhower exit in Alexandria. I decided to limp down the shoulder not knowing if the Overland team could help me on a Monday morning. I rolled in blowing steam and was promptly greeted by Doug and team. He was quick to assure me that he would do his best to access the over heating issue by the end of the day and let me know the verdict. As promised, I received a call with an assessment and an estimated cost for the repair. The Overland teams was able to get my TLC fixed at the reasonable price originally quoted and in a more than reasonable time to get me back on the road. Recently had my LR4 serviced there for my 90K (reasonably priced) and look at my control arms which needed to be replaced. They called my warranty company to confirm coverage and processed the claim on my behalf. I wasn't aware they went above and beyond that I did not need to do anything more. I have taken my 2003 LandRover Discovery (100K miles +) to Overland twice this year and both times I received impeccable customer service. Emad, the front office manager, goes above and beyond to meet the customer's needs. He is so friendly and professional. Everyone in the front office will treat you like family. Unless you take your vehicle to a Land Rover dealership it is very difficult to find mechanics who are experienced with these vehicles. "Clunk, clunk - thud." Aaah, my beloved 2004 Landrover Discovery made what could have been a very expensive sound had I not discovered Overland 4x4. I live in New York, but was spending August in Alexandria. I have been to Alex Landrover service on a couple of occasions, and was not impressed with the workmanship. I called Overland the next morning and based on my (above) description, John insisted I flatbed my Disco the 2 miles over to them, as driving it could be the fatal mistake. I met Pablo the next morning. Pablo got in my car, listened a immediately said "drive shaft". A couple of hours later he brought the broken drive shaft out to show me what had worn out, and what it would have done had I continued to drive it ($$$$$$). I drove out of there with a new Landrover part, amongst a couple of other things he had looked at, at a very fair price compared to a Landrover dealer. I had another issue with a rear door while in town. My home town service dept would have turned it into a "really, it's time for you to buy a new car" situation. Pablo told me it happens on every old Discovery but that mine didn't happen till much later, fixed it in 20 minutes for next to nothing, explained everything to me in case it happens again, and when I went to pick up my car, attached to the invoice were printed out photos he took, showing me what to gently pop off and where to spray to clear gunk that causes a jam. He wrote on the photos before printing them, circling what/where, and he told me he put a can of PB blaster in my car in case it happened again. Great service! I spoke with him about my headliner that was coming down after a sunroof leak repair was made. He said he had a guy who does great bodywork/headliners. I was there for a month. Why not? It was quoted less than Southampton's quote. The color match was perfect and I actually prefer the fabric to the old fleece-like Landrover fabric, the fit is very snug. I asked Pablo if he could give my car a once over, clear out the service engine light issues - that was my 3rd visit in a month! I was getting ready to drive back to New York and wanted an oil change and everything to be fixed (till "the next time"). Upon paying for the final service bill, they told me its evident that my car has been maintained very well and these cars can run forever when maintained. Of course we all had a laugh at the fact that we need to be willing to spend the $. I will. I love my car. I cannot say enough positive things about Overland 4x4. Very service oriented, informative, honest. Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and souther Maryland - and anyone traveling north/south on I-95 needing service, this is the repair shop for you. The pricing is very reasonable. I appreciated having everything explained to me. & They'll drop/pick you up at the metro, close by. As much as I'm not looking forward to another repair, I hope it's timed for when I'm next in Alexandria. I'd actually make a trip from NY for a repair. Thanks Pablo and John! read more

not good at all i have a ford why he work on my vehicle they named all them vehicles except ford but he worked on minds and i think he messed up i know he overcharged me he charged me 657 for 2 screws and i dont know what the hell the screws are for and if u need screws i dont think u should have done it a lift kit is simple u lift and put the dam blocks on tht truck i dont know what the fuck he did then he say i need a font drop kit and something else and i looked for it and they dont make that shit for ford they make it for all the trucks and jeeps that they work on he should have never worked on my car they dont work on fords and i didnt know that but he did she did and they still took my vehicle but we going to court i think either i want my money back or we gonna have to go to small claims court and ima win everything is in my favor they saw me coming im telling you because this is bull shit i had my ford f150 lifted and none of this shit was needed the guy at the other shop just lifted it and put the kit on and i was out the door thats it not this dude he got all this extra lil shit they want me too buy i will be spending around 4,000 dollas when im done and basically all i did was have the truck leveled because it aint nothing but a 2 inch lift which is just gonna level the truck i swear in my bones he dont know what he was doing with my truck and fucked it up and of course he wont call me back i could die and this guy wont call me back but im going down there and let them know this shit racist mafukas but this place is not to be messed with they stealing money big time read more

This shop knows Land Rovers and Jeeps. They had a Porsche in the shop when I dropped of my truck and I got to chat with the owner who was also pleased with their service. The shop Manager John and the mechanic Pablo that worked on my Land Rover were very responsive and gave me lots of advice outside for what I took my truck to be fixed. Their rates are allot less than a dealer and they don't over diagnose what is wrong with your vehicle. They simply fix it and then offer you options as I have an older truck. What a pleasure to work with people like this. I am a freak about who works on my vehicles as I am an amateur mechanic. I got stuck and could not figure out the cause of my fuel trim issues. I've taken my car (Land Rover LR2 2008) to Overland twice and both times the workmanship and service have been first rate. The first visit was for body work. The work was done on time and at a very good price. My front bumper looked good as new and when I realized I forgot to give them my new front license plate, Theresa helped me put it on because it was early morning before the mechanics got in. She had to hunt down the right screws to do so and was so helpful and friendly the whole time. Naturally I came back for a second visit to get my oil changed. Same day service, again at a very reasonable price and Theresa remembered me from last time. I plan to bring my LR2 to overland for service from now on. Great shop! Noticed my Range Rover Sport brakes were making a grinding sound and didn't want to chance damaging the brake systems. Called Overland 4X4 and they took the truck in same day. I mentioned that the truck was a bit squeaky, the brakes were making noise and that my parking brake made an awful sound when I tried to apply the brake. John recommended a road test to assess the issues. After the road test, John noted the expected issues and got my truck to a bay to take a look. I was given a estimate to address the present issues. I also asked for an oil change since I wasn't sure when the last one was done. Was told my control arms, front and rear brakes needed to be replaced. Once the repairs were being done, the parking brake also needed to be replaced. Picked up my truck and it rides and sounds a lot better. The prices were reasonable, and less than the dealer rates. I'm happy that I've found a service team for my truck. I would definitely recommend Overland 4X4. read more

I highly recommend brining in your range rover here to get it serviced. It beats the dealership service 10x and they are so honest. I brought my 2004 Range Rover to get an oil change doen and they ended up finding several other critical parts on the car that needed to be replaced. I had the work done - very good price - and now my range rover is running better than when I first started! I am so shocked and happy. Now I love my car even more. 5 Stars. I own a 2003 Landrover Freelander. Since I've lived in Arlington, I've enjoyed the new hobby of using public transportation to get me around. I take the metro to work at DC and to mostly everywhere where parking is a challenge. So you can imagine my sadness, when my private transportation broke down. I was needless to say, bummed. As a Range Rover fan, I have been an avid fan of going to the dealership for several reasons. One is that customer service is always fabulous. They give a new meaning to personal service. I know this because I've been to Ranger Rover dealerships in AZ, NC, TX, and now VA. The customer service is consistent and I always feel like my car is fixed correctly. Second, I always feel like they know what they're doing! My car drives awesome afterwards! But here's the thing, taking my car to the dealership is EXPENSIVE. At the time my car broke down, I was in a little bit of a financial crunch. So I had to look around for an alternative. I found Roverland 4x4. First of all, they have QUALIFIED Range Rover specialists. This means it's not just some mechanic who says he can fix your car and then end up breaking it because they don't know how to fix British/European cars. Second, the folks at Roverland answered all my questions and was very patient with me. Believe me, I ask ALOT of questions. I'm a girl and don't know very much about cars - so I ask questions to understand. I'm one of those pain-in-the-a$$ girls who'll want you to show her what you did to fix her car. But Roverland did that and more. They had my car for about 4 days, and called me daily for updates. I really really appreciated that. I mean, the repairs were still expensive (almost 3K), but I felt like they knew what they were doing and weren't trying to screw me because I'm a girl. They also gave me a little bit of discount after I told them I couldn't pay more than 3K. So that's a little something. Lastly, they told me that my car now drives like it's new. Seriously, they weren't kidding. I'd tell you what they fixed, but I fear I probably won't make any sense. They did a great job and since this was my first experience with them, there's no reason for me not to go back to them. read more

I took my 96 grand Cherokee there after having stalling issues. I had taken it to 4 different mechanics and one transmission shop all telling me they couldn't figure out the problem because it wasn't throwing any codes. One mechanic even told me and I quote"have a ghost In my machine. Well after just a few days Overland 4X4 was able to fix all my issues. And my 96 is running as smooth as the day I got her. I must admit I was a little hesitate to take my prized automobile to an independent shop that wasn't a referral. I was far away from my usual spots in Virginia (even though I've been a six-year resident of Maryland). Still, I trusted my gut, and the reviews on Yelp and must honestly say I couldn't be happier. John the owner really takes care of you. The shop is ultra clean, the service is first rate, and he really takes you through the recommended service. Parts had to be shipped in from the UK for my British beauty which made the wait longer than usual, but they kept me abreast every step of the way. And when one part got lost in shipping, they did everything they could to make sure my car was ready on time, and they came through with flying colors.
