I was wearing my warmest California winter skiing/snowboarding gear but was still feeling chilly while in Yellowstone. But finding clothes in Gardiner that someone in Gardiner would actually wear proved difficult as I quickly learned that Gardiner stores weren't stocked with the cute and warm outfits that I saw the people of Montana wearing - they were stocked with what tourists wanted - souvenirs and last minute travel items. So I get it - there are currently only 971 residents in Gardner and in seasonal months, tourists greatly outnumber residents so shops are geared for the tourist. But it still sucked since it's not what I wanted. Enter "The Saddle Shop". In addition to saddles and horse riding equipment, it offered clothes and accessories that were stylish and wearable. It was the only store open that offered colorful beanies in multiple styles rather than just Yellowstone or plain beanies. I didn't find an appropriate parka or boots but I did find a really cute beanie that I wore everyday for the rest of the trip. Loved it so much!

Kellem's Montana Saddlery is a truly unique mom and pop small town business. Mr. Kellem is a custom…read moresaddle maker and Mrs. Kellem runs the retail part of the business as well as making custom leather accessories (purses, chaps, vests etc.) The retail store has everything from shoes and clothes, gifts, tack and leather goods, jewelery, books and lots very unique and often hand made gifts and very few of the items sold in the store were made outside of the United States!!!! The customer service is excellent and the sales people are polite and helpful in finding sizes or helping with gift ideas. They are all very knowledgeable about the products in the store such as where and how they are made. This will be an excellent shopping experience during your trip through Yellowstone National Park and you can see the Roosevelt Arch from the store front and the beautiful mountains laying just inside the gateway to Yellowstone. I have even been lucky enough to see elk eating from the flower box out front of the store and bison strolling up and down Park Street. You will love this place!

If you've come from Bozeman or Livingston, you'll want to get a soft drink or yogurt, you'll appreciate sitting here for while before heading in. Food is good at the nearby Two Bit Saloon. It's still a bit of a ride from here to the mineral springs....keep your eye out for buffalo, they're all over the place.

We recently completed a tour with this group. We were are part of the saddle and paddle. Horseback…read moreriding in the morning with lunch in between and rafting 8 miles in the afternoon. Check in and directions were easy and every single person was delightful. Once we made our way up to the horseback riding ranch we were ready to ride. It was fun. However the guides for at the ranch were not very friendly. They did not really give great instructions prior to riding. There were several inexperienced riders who could have benefited from a few extra minutes of support and directions. Another negative was the group of riders was way too large. They should break up the large groups into smaller ones. Our group had over 30ppl. Got separated from my spouse during horse selection. It was chaos. They should consider breaking the groups up into experience and who cam together. Felt bad my spouse was chosen last and I had been on my horse for a good 10 minutes. Overall I would not suggest this portion of the tour unless they committed to making groups smaller and more interactive with guides. They didnt really talk to us or give and local facts or interesting things about the area. Disappointing. The older lady at the ranch also got sparky when I asked if I could take my water with me. Her response "why do you need water it's only a hour ride, jeez just grab a saddle bag I guess. Just rude. Then when getting off the horse she was smacking it in the face while I was still on it. Just not the greatest experience.

Yellowstone Forever offers awesome tours into the park in addition to their gift shop. We took a…read moretour with the Awesome Abbey to see some of the parks wildlife. We saw moose, wolves, bison, pronghorn, mountain goats and some saw a black bear. Abbey was informative and engaged. You could tell she cared that we had a great time. Yellowstone Forever's tours are very reasonably priced and they are a nonprofit that benefits park preservation and learning. Not only will you get a cool tour or merch from them but you are also supporting Yellowstone.

For one month she had obviously done her homework, but there is no way to learn/know everything to lead a tour in a month's time for the Park. Another sticky point was that we were supposed to have received an email to bring a lunch. (For $700, we expected that lunch would have been provided). So, last minute we scrambled to find something to eat at the only open food place, the busy Old Faithful Cafe. If we were to do it again, we would have driven our motorhome and listened to a driving app such as Just Ahead or the National Park Service app with hiking guides and audio tours within the park.
