Sadly they were out of their corn chowder by 6:30. My friend happily scarfed down her entire porkchop, which she was impressed to have done as they're quite large chops! I was not 100 percent sold on their interpretation of bread pudding but that was more a personal style preference than a bad item. Our server was great - friendly and checked in on us but not so much as to interrupt conversation. It's a fairly large restaurant and was bustling on a Saturday night. I will say if you have an important conversation to have, probably not the right place as it's quite noisy, especially if you're near the kitchen. Or ask to move to the patio, if the weather is good! If you want a busy place with a community feeling, this is perfect.

The house made ketchup they are so proud of is very sweet. So if you really don't like sweet with your fries be warned. So decided to try them for dinner. I had the zucchini lasagna. Yikes. Lets call it dry cheese lasagna with a sliver or 2 of zucchini. Was really expecting a more veggie type dish. Not what I got. Also the arugula and pickled red onion salad was super bland. My hubby tried the halibut dish at 42$. He had an overcooked piece of fish and a side of basic potatoes and broccoli. So sorry to say that this place....as cute as it is and a nice as they are is off our list.

The vegetable dishes were excellent: flavorful, well-prepared, and apparently packed with enough fiber to move several years of unresolved business through my digestive system. By the end of the evening, my bowels had entered what I can only describe as "Super Slide" mode. This was not ordinary diarrhea. This was an express-lane evacuation. Waste did not merely leave my body; it checked out early, skipped the front desk, and fled the premises without saying goodbye. The food was delicious, the staff was attentive, and my colon emerged feeling lighter, cleaner, and emotionally available. Highly recommended for vegetarians, food lovers, and anyone whose lower intestine needs a firm but flavorful motivational speech.

There's a menu section that filters all their items based on dietary restrictions, so it was pretty easy to find items that fit her dietary needs. The aguachile was fresh and bursting with flavor, the chilies were really well-seasoned, but the duck was the real standout. So well-seasoned, tender, and that cranberry sauce?! Did not expect to like it as much as I did. We also got some mocktails which were yummy and hit the spot! Docking off one star just because the price was pretty steep for the portion, but otherwise was a nice spot.

Located at the The Golf Club at Newcastle, The Calcutta Grill is an English-style pub that has both indoor and outdoor dining with a view of the pristinely manicured golf course that also has their own bagpipe player signify the sun setting every weekend day during the summer season, along the course as well, which makes for an entertaining way to enjoy a meal. I had actually visited The Golf Club at Newcastle before, just to see the sun going down and watch the sunset bagpipe player play his traditional tune and walk around just as the sun started to set. I was recently back to enjoy a hearty dinner with a colleague and as luck would have it we would get a table while out on their terrace to watch the sun set and the bagpipe player set the scene while dining. Getting to The Calcutta Room at Newcastle was the biggest challenge, as rideshare is very pricey in the Seattle region, but achievable nevertheless. Upon arrival since I was meeting my friend here, and they had already arrived, I was told to venture out to the terrace on my own and wander around and look for them instead of being guided to where they were sitting. The dinner menu at The Calcutta Grill is separated into categories including Small Plates, From the Kettle (or Soups), Starter Salads, Signature Salads, Burgers & Sandwiches, Anytime Favorites, Signature Plates, their special Chef Inspired Features, and their Beverage menu. My dining mate and I decided to both get their smaller Classic Caesar Salad to start our meal. Upon my dining mates suggestion, as he has been here many times before, he suggested we split their Calamari Fritti small plate entrée, which were calamari rings and octopus dipped in a semolina crust and buttermilk and served with lemon, fried parsley and a roasted garlic aioli dipping sauce. For our entrée, it was suggested by our server that we order their Cajun Pasta which was their penne pasta served with grilled chicken, prawns, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, spinach, and topped with their cajun cream sauce and aged parmesan. Served with grilled focaccia it was truly a hearty dish. Being able to take in the warmer weather, at least for the Seattle region, was a real treat as we waited for our food. Our calamari came out first, as they were crispy and crunchy and served with a grilled lemon and tartar sauce for dipping. The perfect way to start our meal was that when our salads came out, I was already satiated but still ready to go with the way that they stylized their version of a Caesar Salad, as it was a simple salad with shaved parmesan and no anchovies. The pasta entrée was the real star of our meal with plenty of hearty ingredients including a number of butterflied and grilled shrimp and chunks of grilled chicken, served with two toasted slices of sourdough bread complete with grill marks on it, this was a meal unto itself. Dining at The Calcutta Grill was a complete experience especially when their resident bagpipe player came to personally entertain us and take a picture with us. Our total bill was a little over 110 dollars before you consider tax and gratuity. By offering a selection of some of the Pacific Northwest's favorite foods in a relaxed, charming setting with uninterrupted panoramic views while dining on their patio, The Calcutta Grill is a special place to enjoy a nice meal.

The food was great, I had a large slider and some clam chowder and my friend had a large slider with some brussel sprouts. However, the service was terrible. There were 3-4 servers behind the bar, but it took us around 15 minutes to even get one of them to acknowledge us. They did have a small crowd, but nothing outrageous. The servers were obviously busy, but they ignored our efforts to be helped and 3 other couples got served who sat down after us. When we left, there was only a few people left in the bar, and the servers had turned over. The new bartender/server also ignored us. He finally acknowledged our existence when we asked for the check. Of course the bill was incorrect and included extra items that we did not order. We left and went to the receptionist to get parking validation. Apparently the free parking is only 2 hours free, we were there for a little more than 2 hours. So, we paid the extra cost and left. That area of Renton is super cute. Unfortunately, we wont return because we can find similar offerings in the area with free parking and better service.

We went through the extensive beer list and found a couple really good beers, in our opinion, that turned out to be really good beers. I ended up having a second beer, which turned out to be just as good as the earlier two beers. My only complaint, was that it was before happy hour was done, and no one asked us if we wanted any food. Not that we needed any, but it would've been nice to have been asked. Good job overall.

Five stars, if only because my brother's impossible standards were finally defeated…read more A group of us stopped by after pickleball for brunch, and everything from the service to the food was fantastic. My brother is, without question, the pickiest diner I know. He's spent the better part of fifty years conducting what appears to be an unofficial cheeseburger audit of the West Coast. He orders a burger almost everywhere we go, critiques every one of them, and has been known to send food back without a second thought. So when he took one bite of the cheeseburger, quietly kept eating, refused to share a single truffle fry, and eventually announced, "This is the best burger I've ever had," the rest of us nearly fell out of our chairs. There wasn't a single complaint, which may be a first in recorded family history. Even more impressive, he's already been back twice on his own. I went in a completely different direction and finished brunch with the date and molasses cake. It immediately reminded me of the English toffee dessert that Citizen Cake in San Francisco used to make years ago. Rich, buttery, and not overly sweet, with house-made ice cream providing the perfect balance, it was one of those desserts that makes you slow down because you don't want the last bite to be the last bite. Great food, warm service, and a relaxed atmosphere. If Yelp allowed six stars, I'd award the extra one for the burger's remarkable ability to temporarily stop my brother from whining.
