Outpost Coffee is an easy 5 stars and will definitely be one of my stops every time I'm back on Kauaʻi. I ordered the iced Hamakua mac nut latte for about $7, and it was worth every penny. The coffee was smooth with a strong flavor that still let the macadamia nut come through. I'd rather spend $7 here than at Starbucks any day of the week. They also sell bagels, smoothies and breakfast sandwiches. One thing I almost missed was the small grocery section attached. I was walking around sipping my coffee and grabbed a homemade brown butter chocolate chip cookie, and it was so good that I completely forgot to take a picture before eating it. The flaky sea salt on top brought out the rich buttery flavor and made it one of the best cookies I've had in a long time. Definitely would recommend and will be coming back next time I'm on Kaua'i read more

Deciced to try out Outpost Coffee for our morning coffee while staying near Hanalei town. Great location, located in Hanalei near several other cute shops & restaurants. Parking was easy, there is a parking lot directly behind the shop. When we arrived there was no line, just a group making a purchase. There was no menu posted on the wall or anything... the only available menus were located at the register where this group was, which I thought was odd for a coffee/beverage spot. So we had to wait til they were done to even see the menu options. As much I wanted to love this place, the coffee was a miss for me... I got the iced coconut dulce de leche iced latte. My drink tasted mostly like milk & not much coffee, caramel, or coconut flavor. However, others in my group tried coffees and smoothies and they were content. There's also a small grocery store attached to it, like whole foods or down to earth store. Different and unique products but cost seemed very high. There was a locally made candy bar for $21 lol. Sorry but Outpost Coffee won't be on my list, for spots to return to. read more

Hopped over from Oahu for a quick Kauaʻi weekend getaway, and staying at an Airbnb nearby in Princeville meant I needed a caffeine fix stat! Decided to stop by Outpost Coffee to check it out. I ordered the coconut latte, but honestly... it was just okay. It was a decent drink, but I could barely taste any coconut flavor at all. In fact, when the barista called my order, she just said "latte," so I had to double-check if it was actually the COCONUT latte. She confirmed it was! While watching it get made, it looked like just a single shot of espresso topped with a full glass of milk and nothing else added. Again, it tasted fine as a standard milk-heavy latte, but it definitely didn't live up to being a coconut latte. There was a bit of a line when I went. They have a very short menu, though I did see they sell a few bagels and pastries (I was strictly there for caffeine). Overall, it hit the spot for a quick caffeine fix, but I probably wouldn't get the coconut latte again if you're looking for real coconut flavor! read more

Another fave of mine on North shore Kauai. This coffee place is inside Hanalei market in the back area. The entire store is super cute inside and looks like a small high end grocery store. They have pre packaged food items and breakfast burritos in the coffee area. I've gotten a few things and they were pretty good, just a bit expensive. The coffee was amazing. I had the mac nut iced latte a few times and I loved it. I was sad because on my last day on the island I came back to get a coffee but they were closed so I never got the coffee and now that I'm back home, I have this craving for it and I can't get it again anytime soon. There are benches and seats outside so you could grab your coffee and go sit outside or head to the beach. read more

Really yummy macadamia nut latte here! They make their own syrups in house and the mac nut latte was a nice blend of the nutty, slightly sweet milk with a smooth espresso. It's located in the Hanalei Market and fun to browse. They also have some delicious looking breakfast sandwiches that we didn't get to try but would be great to grab on the go. read more

Their macadamia nut latte was primo! Of all the coffee shops we went to during our Hawaii trip, this was our favorite, so much so that we went multiple times. I love that they do everything in-house! And they do it well. Their homemade chai, matcha blossom, and coffee were all absolutely spectacular. Good, but not my favorite coffee shop this trip. What we got: I had slightly over pulled shot of beautifully roasted coffee beans. The flavoring (Hamakua macnut latte) was a little bland, but nonetheless, creamy and smooth. My boyfriend got the Bananarama which was good, but nothing extraordinary. Atmosphere: Located in the back of Hanalei Market (one of the best "grocery stores" around here by the way). Very clean, but it's just a counter/coffee bar. Service: Mm..I've noticed a pattern of lack of service or words during this trip.. the young girl just stared at us until I finally spat out my order. Super friendly staff who wasn't fazed by the endless stream of customers lined up. Cashier greeted us with a big smile and "Thank you for waiting. What can I get started for you today?" They don't have a large menu but what they do have, they do well. We ordered a matcha latte, Mac nut latte, and a loaded lox bagel. The bagel was the star! Fresh ingredients and piping hot. It was refreshing to be able to grab some high-quality coffee. The client I work for provides free coffee for me from Starbucks' and I grab their coffee and drinks multiple times a day. However, there is a notable difference between Starbucks coffee and coffee from a little cafe. They are located in the back of the market. They had a pretty small menu with good variety. They were very kind and patient. The cafe is take out but you can find a comfy place to sit in the center where you can sit and enjoy. Definitely recommend. read more

Best nitro on the island (we've tried 3 available and one canned from Maui) by far. My honey has a Seattle coffee-bred pallet and we've stopped trying other places because of Outpost. Pleasant service, love the offerings in the grocery with more reasonably priced goods than Big Save. They even had half price burritos on a Friday for making too many! read more

Best specialty coffee in Kauai Sixth time on the island with my family + friends and this time we went on a thorough coffee tour. We tried about 5 coffee shops until stumbling across this one and wished we found it sooner! Cute location right inside the Hanalei Market since it's walking distance from the beach. Kind and amenable staff as well. Already knew this was the real deal seeing all the equipment (espresso machine, grinders, etc.). Had an iced oat cap which was real tasty with their Rise Up blend on espresso. Will def be trying to squeeze in as many visits before I leave the island. But either way i'm glad to have found this spot for future kauai trips! read more

I generally don't like writing bad reviews, especially of local businesses, but the ambience and the service we received was just that bad. If you've ever seen the South Park episode, "Going Native", then that episode pretty much sums up how you would get treated here. Of course, not as drastic. If you want to be treated fairly and not as a "haole," definitely go the coffee shop across the street. My wife and I were one of the few people there when we entered. She placed her order, and just got the bare minimum of service you'd expect at any coffee shop. The person who took our order wasn't the most enthusiastic, but that's fine. Our small talk attempts were pretty much ignored by the barista. The barista, however, turned into a completely different person when other "locals" walked in. Now, my wife's coffee order wasn't anything too complex. It was your standard latte or something (I don't know, I'm more of a Costco cold brew made at home kinda guy). We were one of the only ones who placed an order (along with another Asian woman) but both of our orders took a really long time. You can only walk around a mini Whole Foods so many times in 15-20 minutes. In the end, it was quite clear the other "locals" were getting their orders bumped up in the priority list. I get it, sometimes you want to help your neighbors or friends get their caffeine fix sooner than others. One or two people is understandable, but it was definitely 10 people who got their orders before use. Again, we ordered before these people too. Coffee was good though. The fault is ours for not being a fellow "native" or "local." It's clear that if you're a Mahalo Rewards Card holder like this store's employees, then you'll get treated way better than a "haole" such as myself. If you're not a true native, you should just go to the coffee shop across the street. read more

Paid $6 for the mac nut latte and another $6 for the nitro cold brew on tap. One of my favorite Mac nut lattes on the island. Cute little grocery market with a cafe in the back. The lox and loaded bagel was good, love me some capers, but the coffee was very sour. I got the cortado with oatmilk and the suggested vanilla, but did not finish it because of the sourness. Person I was with got drip coffee and also did not finish due to the sourness. The baristas were a delight and friendly. We went on Mother's Day and it was thankfully open and was not too crowded. read more

Coffee is my drug of choice, and I thoroughly enjoy the hunt for new and better beans and roasts. Tried a cup of Outpost Coffee at Midnight Bear in Hanapepe recently, and went back the next morning to buy a few bags. The Rise Up blend is incredible, a distinctive and delicious flavor than shines through brilliantly in a latte or any milk drink. It may be the best that I've had to date -- and I've sampled a LOT of coffee over the years. The company's story on their website is very interesting and worth a read. We're excited to continue trying any offerings that this grower/roaster comes up with. If you are serious about coffee, do yourself a favor and give Outpost a try. read more
