My husband & I had our anniversary dinner at Outback Poway 8/22/25. The service was great by a young lady, & don't recall her name. The house salads & 2 loaves of bread with butter were delicious and our 2nd sides which were baked potatoes with everything on it were small but good. I ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail. The filet mignon was very good but I was so disappointed with the tiny lobster tail. My husband could have eaten it in one bite but I cut it up in 6 tiny bites. Would not recommend that at all. My husband had the largest prime rib. He was so disappointed. It had a big fatty part which he didn't mind that as much as the quality of the piece of prime rib. We came here for a dinner with family. The restaurant was not crowded but service was still very slow. Drinks took over 25 minutes to receive from time we sat down until the drinks came. Everyone ordered the steak and lobster combo with filet. The sides were very good and the steak was ok. They had overcooked the filet as I asked for medium and got well done. Medium rare. Came out as ordered. The steak was tough. Too much grizzle. Patrons visit a steakhouse looking forward to a good steak. Economize anywhere you want, but don't serve so so meat quality. Five ounces is the smallest portion possible. Please improve your quality control. Deliver as ordered without drenching the meat in salt. Give value. I realize that these are trying times for the restaurant business, however this lunch special failed in terms of quality and value. Side salad with blue cheese dressing was good. Ice tea was unsweetened, but was delivered with sweetener, but no spoon to stir it in. Tea quality was very good. Lots of good here, but the manager was making a few critical errors. Bartender was dressed like a homeless person. Server was untrained. The bill came with suggested tips calculated on a total that included the sales tax. I found this to be cheesy and unprofessional. Visited on Monday, March, 31, 2025, at ~5:30PM. Sat down quickly by host, then preceded to sit and wait without menus. Finally had to reach out and ask our server for menus (which were given to us in a rude manner as well), then waited for the server to come by and take our our order. No drinks, no bread, nothing. After 12+ mins of sitting at our empty table, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. This is the second time we've had this specific server and it's the same exact experience. Waiting around for service that never comes. Really a bummer because we love this location and our usual server is pretty great (Our usual server is an older gentleman at the bar). Also worth noting the restaurant was not busy whatsoever. Our previous visit was a little busier than usual, so will give some grace there. But even then, our table and the one next to us was completely ignored by our waitress the entire night. I think the only time we saw her was when she took our order down. We stopped in for dinner on a We night and had a great visit. There was no wait to be seated & the Hostess showed us right to our table. She brought out a baby booster for our grand baby and was very sweet. Our server tonight was Kenny and he is hands down the best at this location! He is super attentive and friendly without being overbearing. He came right out to greet us, answered all of our questions about the menu and accommodated all dietary requests without any issues. He checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel comfortable and appreciated. Sit in Kenny's section when you stop in! The food is delicious! I ordered a steak medium well and it came out like a hockey puck. I sent it back. The replacement was medium rare with two strings of something like tendons. The chef came out and apologized, which was nice. That is something that he should do. I didn't see the manager at all. First time we have been here in years. We had a gift card and also signed up on Dine Perks which gave a $10 credit towards a Blooming Onion. Service is very good with several people looking after us. The Blooming Onion is very salty (and strangely spicy). We couldn't finish it but needed refills of our drinks while eating it. We ordered a burger (no mustard, pickles and tomato on the side), meatloaf with broccoli and prime rib outback style with mashed potatoes and brocolli. The meatloaf also came with clam chowder. The burger came with mustard that we specifically asked not to have. Fortunately there wasn't much, so the ketchup overpowered it. The fries are great and the pickles were seemed house made. The meatloaf was a bit salty but had a nice flavor and texture. The clam chowder was very good except not hot at all. Broccoli was tasty and buttery but also salty. The prime rib was perfectly cooked but a little tougher than I expected. Mashed potatoes were pasty and I didn't finish them. We got outback style prime rib yesterday for dinner. It's James's must-have item in outback. This item is not listed on their website so you need to call the restaurant to order this. We got steamed veggies and sweet potato as our sides. We also got the maximum amount of bread sticks because outback bread sticks are YUM with that whipped butter We ordered our prime ribs medium rare and I was a little concerned that it won't come out right (You now when your are eating in the restaurant you can ask them to re-make it if it's overcooked. Burgers were terrible and overpriced. 7 of us visited on Friday. Two of us were in the mood for burgers. Ok, we know that it is not their specialty, however, they are trying to make you think that by the picture in the menu. An $18 burger ($15 + $3 cheese), it better be half way decent. They know what a good burger is based on their menu picture. Both of our burgers were missing tomatoes. Instead they were swimming in yellow mustard. If they were out of tomatos, Target grocery is next door. A $21 burger better be perfect and not missing 1/4 of the toppings. Even ignoring those issues, it was very underwhelming. I wish I would have taken a picture but I didn't want my guests seeing it. Fries were not good. They were not cooked consistently. Some were under cooked and just not good. They didn't even look correctly cooked so there is zero excuse. When paying over $21 with tip for a burger, without drink, I would expect a little effort. The only reason this place is getting one star is because the server staff members are so nice and we've known them for over ten years. This review is purely based on the quality and price of the food we ordered, and not server staff or bartenders - who are great. You can tell they're embarrassed by what's coming g out of the kitchen. First, it took 30 minutes from the time of ordering to receiving the food on a very slow night. That's just too long for a restaurant that was at 30% capacity. When it arrived, EVERYTHING was cold. The butter wouldn't melt on the steak or mashed potatoes and the vegetables were burnt, but also cold. We asked politely to have the dinners warmed up, and they came back in a few minutes after obviously having been microwaved and were now tough and overcooked, instead of being put in the grill again. Obviously, the kitchen staff doesn't care because there was no excuse as the place was near empty. Also, they've significantly shrunk the size of all food items and the quality was terrible. The steaks were loaded with fat and grizzle and the meat was flavorless and tough to chew. All in all ZERO VALUE for the $100 they gouged us for this horrible food. We won't be coming back again, and it's a shame as this was a family favorite for over 15 years. The experience at Outback off of Pomerado Rd can be pretty hit-and-miss. In giving the benefit of the doubt, they must be frequently understaffed. Every time I have visited, our order has at least 1 mistake (usually several) and the waitstaff seems to be either 1) running in circles and doesn't have time to stop by the table to be alerted to the issue or 2) is alerted to the order errors but then doesn't rectify the problem. The waitstaff is always pleasant, so I don't think it's a deliberate attempt to frustrate diners (hence the thought that they may be understaffed). The steaks are pretty good, but again, we consistently experience order problems, so someone at the table is eating something not-quite what they ordered. Would I eat here again? Yeah, if I'm wanting a reasonably-priced steak and willing to swallow some occasional frustration. Is this the best steak experience possible in the area? No, I can't say it is. TLDR: It's fine, especially if you're flexible. If you're a finicky diner or have high expectations to receive a 100% correct order, you may want to dine elsewhere. read more
