If you are looking for a dining experience that will blow your mind then you must go to Coteau!…read moreNestled in the hotel St. Antoine in Quebec City, this small and quaint dining area hosts a magical tasting menu for dinner. The decor of the restaurant is rustic with wooden and stone walls and exposed beams. There is an iron staircase leading to a small second floor area as well. Upon entrance we were greeted with bright smiles and warm salutations. Our table was cozy and comfortable and did not sit too closely to its neighbors. The menu offers four options: a five course or seven course meat and fish tasting or a five or seven course vegetarian tasting. The seven course option includes all of the five course foods plus two additional. Then you can add on a wine pairing to go with the food...which we did not try. The drinks are plentiful and include non-alcoholic versions of your favorites. My husband had the faux gimlet and I had the faux Paloma. Both were bright and refreshing! The food begins with a sampling of three welcome samplings and fresh sourdough bread - not counted toward the 5/7 tasting dishes you are yet to receive. Then you are delighted with dish after dish of absolutely incredible and fresh foods. We had the seven vegetable tasting courses and I could not tell you which was the best because every single bite was a true delight to our palettes. There was a take on French onion soup that just blew my mind and a ravioli that was such a tender pillow of cheese and eggplant. The waiter explains each dish listing a plethora of vegetables that are home grown. Coteau is an experience. It is pricey but worth it if you enjoy tasting a variety of unique dishes that give you an appreciation for fresh home grown foods that are made with precision and thought! I hope you get a chance to try this fabulous food journey!

We are not picky eaters & do not have any allergies so it was a fun experience for sure and there was not one that was not outstanding (& they threw in a bonus 6th one)! The portions are small, but by the end of the evening we left very satisfied and full! With accompanying wine for the meal it was such a terrific experience! EXCELLENT CHARCUTERIE AND CHEESE!…read more We wanted to try something local and more traditional, and we came across Le Pied Bleu. Their website states they're specialized in cooked charcuterie, so we decided to try it out and it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere with light music. They also have a few tables outside under the roof (ideal if you prefer "under the shade" patio seats). Both the charcuterie platter and the cheese platter are certainly the highlights. Our server was very kind to describe each cured meat and cheese in details. While we all have our own preferences, our group agreed these are of very high quality! We also ordered a few lunch plates to share - crepes, sausage & eggs, etc. They're freshly prepared and are served in a hot pan which kept the food nice and warm! I'd love to go back again when I'm in Québec City in the future - both dine-in and also get some cured meats as midnight snack :)

***** I love la salade Lyonnaise and when I put Pied Bleu on my list of places to eat; I had every intention of having a salade Lyonnaise and le plateau de charcuterie or Le Tour Lyonnais when I stopped for lunch. However, the proprietor?/my gracious server suggested that I start with a drink and the small plateau de charcuterie. I ordered an icy cider and my platter of delights arrived promptly with a basket of sliced baguette - unlike the USA, there was no bread rationing here - it looked like an entire baguette cut up and placed in the basket. Everything was fantastic - the pate, the cretons, the saucisson sec, saucisson de Lyon with pistachios, the ham/bacon and the house mustard (and he kindly shared the recipe) and the pickles were spectacular. I was as happy as I was full and I was stuffed! My server was smart as well as a nice man - and he indulged me with my French although he spoke English perfectly. Dining al fresco on the sidewalk, I was treated to a wide variety of music during lunch including the music of Jean Leloup, Mara Tremblay Jok1 Le Chef, so cool. Another perfect moment sitting in the city of Quebec. It does remind me in a lot of ways of Europe, of France and yet it has its own distinct vibe that really resonates with me.

An Unexpected Gem - One of Our Best Dining Experiences Ever…read more My wife and I discovered Au Grain de Folie in Lévis, Quebec, completely by chance. We hadn't made a reservation--we just saw the great reviews and decided to take a shot. When we arrived, they told us they were fully booked and only accepted reservations. But just as we were about to leave, the staff kindly offered us a spot at the tabletop, which gave us a front-row view of the magic happening in the kitchen. That's when Chef Claudine personally stepped in, and from that moment on, we were treated to something truly special. The entire staff welcomed us with warmth, and the space was intimate, charming, and full of positive energy. We were invited to enjoy the Chef's Inspiration tasting menu with wine pairings, and we gladly placed ourselves in their hands. Each course was inventive and delicious, paired with a wine thoughtfully selected to complement the flavors--and tailored to our individual palates. Chef Claudine noticed right away that my wife and I have different tastes and curated each pairing accordingly. Before each course, she came to our table to describe the dish and the wine, creating a relaxed, engaging rhythm to the evening. From our seats, we could watch the team at work--cooking, laughing, even dancing. It was clear they loved what they were doing, and that joy came through in every plate. We've had the privilege of dining at many top-tier restaurants, but this evening stands out as one of the best. Not just because of the food and wine, but because of the warmth, care, creativity, and energy of the entire experience. Even the music--delightfully eclectic--added to the charm. If you're in Lévis, do yourself a favor--go here. It's a small space, so reservations are definitely a good idea. But however you get in, just go. We'll absolutely be back. Thank you, Chef Claudine and team, for an unforgettable night.

We took the ferry across the St. Lawrence River to the town of Lévis, and then a taxi ride 20 minutes upriver to a little bistro in a quaint neighborhood beside the river. From the outside, the prospects for fine dining did not look terribly promising. But one step through the door, and I sensed we were in the right place. They remembered my telephone message in bad French making the reservation and seated us promptly. The chef-owner, Claudine, then came to the table to welcome us, and personally stepped us through the entire menu in her good but hesitant English. It's a very seasonal menu, entirely written by hand on a chalkboard on one wall of the restaurant. By good fortune, last night it featured four appetizers and four entrées, so we ordered everything on the menu! The place was small and was obviously a favorite of the locals. The kitchen was staffed by just the chef and one sous chef. The music playlist was pop songs from our childhood, and the staff was very friendly, obviously having a good time working together serving the clients. I decided to really step outside my comfort zone and order things the chef seemed especially proud of. So for an appetizer, I had the veal sweetbreads, and for my entrée I had a blood pudding made according to the chef's grandmother's recipe. Every bit of food was amazing. The blood pudding was served with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes whipped with farmers cheese, a mustard slaw, and a grilled apple. It was so rich and interestingly spiced. I enjoyed all of my unusual choices! The other appetizers were onion soup, and borszcz, a cold Ukrainian beet soup. The other entrées were ceviche, roast duck, and risotto with a halibut fillet. For dessert, we had macarons and chômeur, which is a moist bread pudding flavored with maple. The name chômeur translates as "unemployed person"! After the meal, our bartender-waiter, Jean-Phillipe, brought over a bottle of Armagnac and served us all a shot. He joined us in the drink, saying it was in part to celebrate his recent 25th birthday. After that the chef joined us outside for a group photo and hugs.

So far this has been the best food we've experienced in Quebec, with the best service, and also the best ambiance. Everything about this place is pretty cool. I'd say just go - don't bother with the details (plus the menu changes with the seasons). But if you're into such things: the gouda churros were sublime, the pork belly skewers were wonderful (didn't even mind the tarragon), the Ravioles du Dauphiné is probably the single best dish we've had all year, and the guineafowl was the perfect culmination to a pretty perfect meal... And don't sleep on their bread and dessert either. We almost never finish the bread, but we ate every morsel of this one - and the butter too. Definitely a stand-out in the Quebec culinary scene. They speak English also for the non-Francophones in the building. Not to be missed.

We were underdressed, but the host basically was like "the dress code is only for the waitstaff, you are fine." So the place is definitely welcoming and had a nice vibe. Most of the tables spoke French but there was one other larger group also composed of English speakers. Waitstaff was fully bilingual though the vibe of the place is more Francophone than Quebec tourist. The food is cooked technically very well, though the portions are small, particularly our scallop appetizer which was maybe 2 scallops. The food was very good, but for the price it wasn't amazing, amazing. My wife said her trout for example was a bith mushy. I had the beef and it was very good. I'd happily it that and the scallop dish (maybe I'd order two, lol) again. Cocktails were also very good. Then there was the pre-dinner mackrel rolled in seaweed. Totally fine but an odd choice to give to all the diners. Also, the bread was only so-so (I got a better loaf tonight at Farm Boy) and the pepper butter and fois-gras butter were sort of tasteless. Again this is a solid restaurant and despite being 'fancy' had a very unpretentious vibe about it, which I appreciated. But the price feels a bit high, and the service was quite slow. So for me, it is a 4, but except for a restaurant I ate with friends in Montreal in 2018 (the name of which I am forgetting) and a really excellent spot on Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the it is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in Quebec.
