For some reason I had high expectations of a unique pizza experience (I.e flatbread's or reasonable facsimile). What we got was fairly oily, ordinary pizza. What was not ordinary was the air conditioner basting on a rainy day when it was 59 degrees out, really loud machines (ventilation) drowning out the music, and a view of bathroom supplies that are proudly displayed in the front window. I was surprised at how small it was inside; I had been expected a decent sized place but there's just a few tables inside and some outside (when it's warm). First of all, how does this excellent establishment only get 3.5 stars? There's something wrong with the rating system. This is my wife and my favorite vegan pizza ever (I'm sure the non vegan is just as stellar). Outstanding. Clean, exceptional customer service, and the pizza is crispy, fluffy, thin, fresh vibrant sauce. It's not the cheapest pizza, but hey, like any business, price, quality, service, pick any two. After years in Boston, I've finally tried Otto Pizza. I got a slice of the mashed potato with bacon and scallion pizza and it was very good. The slices aren't very big but because I had chunks of mashed potato on mine, one did the trick. I can't say that I loved the topping choices but the pizza itself was a good balance between crunchy (outside) and soft (inside). read more

My love affair with Otto Pizza began several years ago right before I moved from Massachusetts to Maine (we're talking about May/June 2014.) I was not only leaving the state, I was also calling an end to my teaching career - a situation which brought me to the MTA Office in Lynnfield. As I walked through the office, one of the people that worked there had an Otto Pizza box from the then-recently opened restaurant in MarketStreet. When she opened the box she took out a slice of pizza.... that had APPLES on it. Apples? Who in God's name would think about putting Granny Smith apple slices on a PIZZA? She swore by how good it was - and asked me if I wanted to try a slice. Note about me, I have an aversion to eating others' food, and if you dare ever try to take food off my plate, you'd better share my surname, or be prepared to be stabbed with my fork! But the whole drive home, all i could think about was "How good could a pizza with no red sauce be? With APPLES no less?? This woman must be smoking some really good stuff!" My intellectual curiosity having gotten the best of me, when I picked my son up from after-school care (he was in 3rd grade at the time) I asked him if he'd like to go for pizza, warning him that we might not be getting pizza in the traditional sense of the word. His 8-year-old brain not having wrapped itself around what I had just said, all he heard was "Pizza!" and we were off. So first off, that Apple Bacon and Red Onion pizza was freaking amazing. As someone who has Italian ancestry on my father's side who comes from a long line of people who sweated over their "Sunday gravy" there is no way I was supposed to like Pizza like this! I kept saying "this is bollocks" to myself, not because it wasn't fantastic, but the cognitive dissonance this was creating with my heritage was unexpected. I came to the restaurant fully expecting this pizza to be crap and it wasn't. But what made this an especially memorable visit was that the manager/owner/operator (it's been a long time, so I am not sure of his name or title at this point) took an interest in us because my son was displaying vocal tics from Tourette's syndrome, and he had recently participated in some kind of event - a fundraiser perhaps - that benefited Tourette's. We were often regarded disdainfully in restaurants because of his tics, but this gentleman went the opposite way, treating us to different slices so we could get a taste of the various types of pizza available, and even gave us some Otto swag (a shirt and a hat, the latter of which we still have!) He even went next door and brought us back some Pinkberry (which I didn't have the heart to tell him I thoroughly detest.) In doing so, he cultivated a relationship between us and Otto Pizza that still exists today. Every weekend we would go up to Bar Harbor to visit my wife, who had started her job in January of that year, and from then on, we always tried to make it a point to take a detour and hit up Otto Pizza for dinner (depending upon when we left, due to Boston traffic being brutal, we would sometimes visit the restaurant at intersection of Forest & Congress in Portland.) Most every time we left Maine to go to Massachusetts or Rhode Island or to visit relatives in New Jersey, we would stop at Otto somewhere. I can't explain enough how great their pizza is (Mashed Potato Bacon and Scallion is definitely my favorite.) If you're a closed-minded douche who thinks great pizza must emulate New York (where I was raised) Pizza, then you may not be ready for the gastronomic phenomenon that is Otto Pizza. But if you want to try something unique and delicious, please go to Otto. Great food and great people. I live in Pittsburgh now, but i still work in Maine - remotely - and I go back every 10 weeks. There is a high probability of a scheduled extended layover in Boston so I can go up and get me some of their delightful culinary witchcraft. I'm as picky an eater as they come, so if I love it, you should give it a try! read more

Here is verbatim what the guy had to say when I asked him to deliver the remainder of the order, "yeah, we're not going to do that. The mistake in the grand scheme of things was, like, too small for us to make another delivery trip. We're too busy." Who says that to customer after screwing up their order? The guy had the worst attitude, like it was our fault that he screwed it up. Anyways, mistakes are excusable, rudeness is not. Note to management: good help is indeed hard to find. Try harder. Stopped in here after our wedding day and before dropping our Best Man off at the airport. Who would not want to stop at such a nice shopping center? We were really craving pizza and OTTO had such nice smells emanating from the inside, so we really had to give it a try. The guys had a cheese and olive pizza and I went for a more substantial slice with lots of veggies and meats--I wish I remember the name. Though that slice was good, it did leave a je ne sais quoi to be desired. However, when I took a bite of the guy's nicely thin crust, super plain and simple cheese and olive pizza I was in pizza heaven. Next time OTTO and I meet, it will be on simpler terms. They even have cannolis and some other desserts there. We actually tried a cannoli there and it was quite tasty. First time trying and very impressed! Crust is delicious (crisp on the bottom with a bit of crew and nice flavor). Toppings were delicious on the surprisingly good potato, bacon and green onion. The plain cheese was delicious as well with happy little circles of tomato's sauce on top to give a punch of pure tomato goodness. Maine Root sodas had clear flavors with just a touch of sweetness. Having eaten at the Portland, ME flagship and the Harvard Square many times, I was pleased to see OTTO as the 'za option at Lynnfield Marketplace. Like the Harv. Sq, seating is limited but the array of slice choices arent. We came on a busy Sunday and had a wide selection- ended up settling with Mash potato and herb, meatball basil, chilli flake chicken porcini and plain ole' cheese for the kiddos. The pizza was great- 4 out of 5 stars: thin and crispy, nice flavor balance on the ingredients. What earned this location the 5th star was the unbelievably cool staff. We'd asked that our slices be sliced in half to make them shareable, and one slice was very slightly mangled, and they gave us a complimentary slice as replacement. I then went to add a soda onto the order (they have Puck's all natural soda which is the greatest ever) and the guy refused to let me pay- "red carpet treatment today, bud" Just the kind of thing that gives you a feeling that you want to support this business. (I of course dropped the soda cash + some into the tip jar) Great experience, and good value as well - a $3.50 slice is the size of two slices, and has the flavor of 4. Riddle me that..... I'd recommend having them split the slices so that you and your friends could sample a variety. 3 slices and two drinks will run you about $14 bucks and is an ample lunch for 2. read more

I was a fan of Ottos Harvard Square, so when they moved in the next town over, I had to swing by. New location, new building, same insanely good pizza. I had the bacon masher, a family favorite. Fantastic. One slice just leads to the next. There's no stopping it. I'm not sure if this location will deliver, but if it does, I think we'll finally be able to have Ottos at home. Yesterday they were here at lynnfield day to support the town (+1 stars) and were giving out samples. Their pizza was very oily, but the crust was thin and crispy. Five stars aren't enough to rave about how amazing this place is. Not only is the pizza out of this world, the staff is super friendly. My husband, two year old son and I came in tonight on a Friday evening and ordered a small pizza. I asked to order a side of breadsticks, as my son is lactose intolerant. We usual bring extra food from home if we know we're going someplace that is heavy on the cheese. The man who helped us told us that they don't serve breadsticks and helped us find a solution that worked best for us. After a few minutes pondering, he offered to whip up a special order of breadsticks for my son on the house just to make our night out as a family a great one. I will always remember the generosity of the man who helped us today and will rave about this place to all my friends and family. We will be back for sure. read more

If you like traditional pizza with normal amounts of tomato sauce this might not be the place for you. They specialize in white pizzas and only offer a handful with tomato sauce, which really means a few squirts of red sauce on a basically white pie. They have about 8 rotating pizzas at the shop where you can order slices from, or they will make you a whole pie if you're willing to wait. The pizza is tasty, but just a bit different from what you'd normally expect. They do offer gluten free crust and it's one of the better crusts according to my wife, though she too was a bit disappointed in the sauce situation. read more
