I go to this restaurant all the time always have a good meal unfortunately today it was horrible. Came here on a recommendation that Santarpio's has some of the best pizza in the greater Boston area. Let me first say this: This pizza is not a style that I truly enjoy. I enjoy crispy crust with stiff crust under the toppings. This pizza was not it. It was crispy on the crust but not under the toppings. Having said that, woah, this pizza took me back to my college days of eating delicious greasy pizza that just hits the spot at the end of a night of enjoying adult beverages. (We were sober for this pizza) Service was great. The place itself is a time capsule of the 80-90s with its decor. It's great! Side note: it's appears many people come here for the BBQ. We didn't know that until we left and saw all the BBQ plates. We will return for BBQ and Beer at a later date. read more

It seems like Santarpio's struggles with consistency, or maybe it has just fallen off. A return visit in late July after a mid-May visit proved disappointing. In May, our pizzas were crisp, hot, and delicious. Lamb skewers were tender and tasty. In July, lamb was overcooked and flavorless. Pizza crust was underdone and while I enjoyed the flavor, it just didn't hit the same. Service was friendly. It was lively both times, and our May party of seven only had a 45-minute wait on a Saturday evening. However, I'd try other pizza places or the Eastie location, but I'd not return here. read more

Tried to go today for lunch. Used to be one of my faves. Sat at the bar high tops for like 6-7 minutes not even greeted. Asked for water and menus finally...never got either. Walked past numerous times even asked for wifi password. Just to get anyone to realize that we weren't being helped. They have gone downhill, and it makes me sad we enjoyed it on Fridays and stopped for several months because of the decline. So tonight, we struggle but we say goodbye. We stopped in just as the kitchen was closing for takeout and were so grateful they still took our order. We kept it simple--just a cheese pizza and two waters--but the staff couldn't have been more pleasant. Everyone we interacted with was kind, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, even at the end of their shift. The pizza came out hot and delicious. It's rare to find such great service and warm hospitality, especially so close to closing time. We'll definitely be back--next time a little earlier! Yes, I am biased. Grew up loving good Greek style "House of Pizza" bar pizza style. Pizza here is Papa Gino's/Regina style and it is usually very good. The sauce and the cheese is A plus. The crust? Inconsistent...sometimes dry; often burnt. Oh well. 2 out of 3 is pretty good. Love the sausage and peppers side dish & steak tips. Oh...and Jade! She is probably the best bartender in the North Shore btw no lie/not my sister. Always nice to us. We only go 4-5 times a year but she is memorable for sure read more

HORRIBLE! Tried to order online at 8:15 PM on a Friday night. Apparently they stop taking online orders at 8 PM because they close at 9;00. On a Friday. . But OK. Ordered a sausage, mushroom, green pepper in person at 8:25. This was the wettest, floppiest, gooiest crust I've ever, EVER had. Spongy, mushy, ick. Pizza had hardly any tomato sauce very dry and cheese was rubbery like it was left for ten minutes before serving. Lamb pieces were not chewable. Service was ok. It's like being in an abusive relationship. This horrible customer service experience was beyond anything I've ever experienced. We called ahead to reserved seating for a large party after a funeral. We EVEN HAD A PRIEST DINING WITH US. We were over estimated reservation count and this immediately aggravated the entire staff despite the place being empty on a wed at 1 pm. It felt like the ENTIRE staff wanted us gone. They rudely an begrudgingly responded to our requests for extra chairs, a high chair, food, boxes, drinks, and allergy accommodations. I asked if we could have extra chairs because we were short. Gathering the 4-5 chairs became a full fledged battle involving 4 furious employees. We were still one chair short but too scared to ask for another one so I STOOD UP for about 15 minutes until my cousin was bold enough to go sneak another chair. During this ordeal, the hostess complained that we should have gotten a function room (her job to have done) Seems like an easy solution and like that should have been done when we told them we had 30 people coming from a funeral. I asked for a high chair for my infant, thinking this wouldn't be as angrily received because who doesn't like babies right? Well I was wrong. They hate babies here too. I asked another employee we hadn't yet interacted with I was hoping she would be nicer, but she was immediately angered. She shouted "you want a high chair now too!?" Then she grabbed it and stormed off with it before I could answer and stormed around the entire perimeter waving the chair high in the air while I followed, bewildered still unsure if I was getting the high chair. Like a petulant child asked to pick up her toys. Eventually she angrily dropped it and stormed off leaving behind a cloud of green villainous mist. "Thank you" I shouted after her in a failed attempt to appease her. The waitress rolled her eyes repeatedly while taking our order, wouldn't let us finish ordering before trying to walk away, got irritated with every order we made and just kept shouting HOW MANY PIZZAS!? to the point were some of us got too nervous to finish ordering. A few brave souls ordered steak tips. I have an allergy so had to hold her attention for longer than she wanted as I explained that I needed a gluten free cheese pizza and steak without bread as she interrupted shouting once again "how many pizzas!?" Then started to walk away. We looped like this about 3 times before I finally gave up and accepted that I'd probably be leaving hungry and more sad than when I'd arrived. As the food started trickling in, the staff came out shouting items and immediately angered if they were not the items we ordered. "PEPPERONI PIZZA!!" , not ours, PEPPERONI PIZZA!! , not ours, *2-3 staff members glare at us* ok fine we will take it. LAMB TIPS, not ours, LAMB TIPS, not ours, gang of staff glares at us again so I jump in, "ok put it here and we will figure out who's it is. Don't worry about it". A peace offering I assumed. Nope. Olive branch rejected and burnt. We were so frightened that we just kept accepting food we didn't order. The staff came out twice to give me steak with bread on top to which I calmly reminded them that I needed mine without bread. After the second attempt, an employee giving very strong East Boston vibes, rolled his eyes at me and contorted his face as if I was the most ridiculous pompous person he had ever met. Right to my face making eye contact. At this point I'm fed up and my East Boston comes out too, time to fight fire with fire. I quickly respond "what!? You got a problem with that!?" To which he, probably sensing the East Boston in me now, back peddled and tried to play it off. Then he went behind the wall and 2 seconds later came back with a sinister grin on his face stating "this is brand new steak on a new plate" which I knew was bull because 1 - it was too quick and 2- you could see he didn't even go into the kitchen. My cousin was too scared to ask for water and had to choke down her food without hydration. They even got annoyed when we asked for to go boxes. In summary, This was overall the most aggressive, hostile, rude, and flat out unwelcoming customer service experience I have ever had. Despite the amount of business we were bringing in, we were in mourning, we would be giving a large tip, we had a priest, a baby, etc, there was no way to win them over or appease them. The hostess didn't put us in a function room, so the entire staff punished us. The pizza was still so damn delicious. Even the gluten free one I had was amazing (I'm Sure I got cross contaminated - still Worth it). The moment that sauce cheesy piece of heaven touched my mouth, all their sins were forgiven. It's conflicting to love a places so much when they treat you so badly. Just be prepared because if you don't have tough skin you're not going to make it. You'll end up standing up while you eat something you didn't order with no drink and sad read more

True to the original, and conveniently located for anyone on North of Boston near Route 1. The pizza from the original location in East Boston is one of my favorites, and this is on par. The toppings are buried beneath some cheese & sauce, so not easy to spot in the photo. The crust is thin, so a fork and knife are a good idea. Their BBQ (grilled steak tips, lamb, and sausage are tasty as well. Only minor issue was a slippery floor in the bathroom. read more

One of our friends who lives down the street from us keeps raving about this place. He finally brought us a pizza for my husband and a skewer of lamb for me. It was really good. We went to the museum of science in Boston the other day and stopped here on the way home. My husband got the meat lovers pizza and I got a skewer of lamb. Fresh and hot out of the oven and it was all so delicious I completely forgot to take photos of the food, LOL! But trust me, if you like lamb, it's super tender and comes with italian bread and cherry peppers. The meat lovers pizza had pepperoni, homemade sausage and ground beef. My husband ate the whole pizza before I could even try it, so it must have been great! Our family got seated in a small room with a very loud and obnoxious party of 16 that were dropping the f bomb every other sentence. They were shouting at each other. They also were bragging about their drug use. Not the most appropriate conversation with a 12 year old. There was about 4 four conversations with each group talking louder and louder. Rather wait an hour in the cold at their East Boston location than have this experience. They knew their server so they're probably regulars. Fine to keep them in their own room, but the hostess and waitress should have never seated us in the small room. The sausage bbq was great as always. The pizza was good.
