Visited OTC once again and was not disappointed. Whenever, I visit this restaurant I feel at home. It is always a good vibe. The ambiance is nice with the different tv's all showing different sports and games. It is especially enjoyable during football season and the world cup. The service was impeccable. The bar tender was very attentive and friendly. She came to check on me a couple of time which I appreciated. Unfortunately, I did not order anything to eat. Solid neighborhood spot that's good to have close by. The server was attentive and competent, and the decor gives it a comfortable diner/bar comfortable feel. The bacon was great. That said, the food was pretty salty overall, and my over medium eggs weren't quite right, though I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it might have been an off day. St. Patrick's Day brunch was a hit here but the service was a little slow and apparently they charge you $20 for unfinished plates lol. We had a good time though and the green mimosas were great! $50 for bottomless mimosas is a good deal and the Dj was super lit! Kept us dancing the whole day. Had a good time and the food was delicious! I just did the basics, eggs, bacon, potatoes, and fruit. They only allow 3 plates with the brunch menu so I ate all three lolol. We were on our way somewhere else and thought we'd grab lunch at Panera and our GPS took us through old towne Gaithersburg and we on a whim we stopped at OTC. I got the steak & cheese that came with fries for $3 extra. , delicious and my hubby got the smoked salmon and an iced tea. They serve breakfast till 2 pm. Nice looking restaurant with ample seating. Nice sports bar if you are into that kind of place . Since we went in October, it was very well decorated for Halloween. The bartenders appeared to know the patrons. As patrons of the pre-renovated Old Town Cafe, the transformation is incredible! More space than before, more restrooms, and a bar to boot! Not going to lie, I miss the old cafe feel of walking in and seeing the Price is Right on the single wall TV while Mom and Pop cooked behind the counter, but that feeling isn't forgotten with the mural on the wall showing those good ol' times. With family and other staff, it doesn't take long to get seated and served. And to my pleasant surprise, the menu hasn't changed at all. Same amazing food that we have come to expect. It was great seeing Mom and Pop still running the place, now with a bigger presence of their grown children working along side them. It makes my heart swell to know they are doing well. Update on my review, I'm sad to announce that there is new staff here and it was such an uncomfortable feeling this time. Not welcoming at all, the place was full on a Saturday morning . I've been coming here for a long time and it has never been this way. We were not greeted when we came in, in fact we ended up sitting down ourselves. The waiters name was Laura she was extremely unpleasant, not friendly at all which is si surprising being that this place is known for their friendly staff. I ordered our usual fresh squeezed orange juice and she said WE DONT Have it!! There was no I'm so sorry we don't have it today. I ordered a hot tea it was super cold. I ordered the waffle, eggs and meat, my eggs I always order fried over hard and it was the oposite fried outside and inside sunny side up. It took so long to finally get my eggs I had already finished my waffles and bacon. I was literally in tears seeing the eggs drenched in oil, it's like they were mad because I complained that my eggs were not done properly. After sitting and observing I could see that Laura treated others different, as other people whom she knew came in they were greeted with a smile even treated different when taking their orders. There was a couple next to me whom felt the same way, their service experience was the same as mine. No one who comes to pay for a good breakfast should be treated this way. If there is new ownership please train your staff properly, Laura your server should not treating your loyal clients this way or anyone!! She must treat everyone the same. read more

A 5 STAR shoutout to OTC - we came on a Saturday night for the live music! 3 different bands took turns playing oldies but goodies covers all night long. No cover, no drink minimums - just a bunch of "oldies but goodies" (haha) locals out on a Saturday night for good food, drinks and a jolly good time. OTC, I read, stands for Old Towne Cafe which was the predecessor establishment (a beloved diner now turned B&G) but it could also stand for "On the Corner" because this place is that - right smack dab in the center of Olde Town Gaithersburg at the corner of E Diamond and S Summit. Family-owned small business - support the little guys - they need all the support we can give them! Parking isn't a snap, just sayin' - it's street parking (good luck) or close-by open lots (watch for signs so you don't get towed) or city garages a couple blocks away. Yelp asked me "Is this place trendy?" "Touristy?" "Romantic?" "Hipster?" "Kid-friendly?" Lol. The answer is "no" to all. Yelp also asked "Is this place divey?" And the answer to that would also be "no." WRITING THIS REVIEW SOLEY BASED ON COMING HERE FOR THE SAT NIGHT "BAR & GRILLE" EXPERIENCE, OTC is a fun local pub / bar with (surprisingly!) REALLY GOOD fresh, piping hot food (classic bar menu items but also apparently some OTC specialties - the bartender told us the fried rice is one of their specialties), a well stocked bar including a great selection of classic and craft draft brews (accompanied by colddddddd glasses - nice touch!), and great, friendly service. I can say, having ordered a CHEESEBURGER, that I honestly wasn't expecting much. But check out my pics - it came out with a toasted bun (!) and the hamburger was cooked PERFECTLY medium (pink center) without my asking. It was not a char-burned hockey puck hallelujah. It had a juicy flavorful center but was not overly greasy (so honestly not messy to eat), and you could actually taste the quality of the beef in all its naked goodness. Highly recommend ordering their burger this way - no muss no fuss no nonsense - plain ol' burger with cheese, done! The crinkle cut fries were a delish accompaniment - a side order is shareable (see my pic) - pro tip: ask for them to be cooked well done / crispy. They did not disappoint and came out PIPING HOT out of the kitchen - no lie, my friend burned his mouth scarfing down a few of them when the tray was put down in front of us. The gyro and steak and cheese were delicious as well, as reported by my buddies. Big portion sizes. They started the live music early - like 6:30PM - but it continued throughout the night. The stage area is in the front of the restaurant and it's loud - so don't come here if you're looking for a quiet, romantic, place. The place isn't huge - it's one giant room - and that night it was packed but service was attentive, responsive and friendly. Even the servers looked like they were having a good time! There's a long bar that wraps around the back of the restaurant - great perch for watching the live music. A nice place to enjoy a weekend evening out with great live (FREE!) entertainment (definitely leave the kiddies at home!). IMPORTANT NOTE: I honestly don't know if the live music is every week, every Saturday, a regular happening or even if there's an events calendar for this place. OTC doesn't appear to have a website so I guess you have to call to ask.... Oh - and the prices ain't that bad either! What's not to love about this place, amiright?! If you're local to Olde Town and haven't checked this place out yet, HIGHLY RECOMMEND a night out here. read more

Recently, we were in the building to celebrate the birthday of a family member. Our family is there most Friday's for Karaoke as we support the DJ wherever he goes. I have come on many occasions and enjoyed the atmosphere and the owners seem genuinely grateful for the crowd. However, this time was different. When we got there, they said we couldn't sit at one of the tables because it was being used for silverware. No problem. We moved to another table. My husband, Daughter, and I placed our order and when I asked for a pitcher of water, I was told they were not doing pitchers of water, only bottles of water. I asked for two bottles but only received one. Again, no problem. The waitress said they needed a card on file, I said ok, and gave her my card. Our food came, it was ok. My mixed drink was ok. At some point, someone at our table noted the owner locked the door. Weird. My sister-in-law says to me that they are telling people they could not sit unless they bought something. Weird. So she stood the whole time as she was only there to support the birthday girl. People came to the door and they were not allowed in. Weird. Was the space at capacity? At one point we noticed that the wife/owner and the waitress were video recording the place. I thought it was to put on social media. (Remember this...) Anyway, I asked for my bill before closing in order to make sure there were no issues. I noticed a moscato was added to my bill. We didn't have a moscato. I also noted the charge for two bottled waters. I told her about the moscato and the need to bring the second water. She corrected the bill and brought the water to me. No problem. We had a great time in spite of the change in customer service (music and Karaoke always great) Remember the video taping and the locked door? Well it turns out it was to make sure no one walked out on the bill. But yet, I am told two people who were NOT a part of the party did walk out. The owner showed the party lead the video of who they were and someone recognized them and called them to come pay the bill. AGAIN, they were NOT a part of the party. I too am a business owner and I understand the need to protect your property. But our family would never, nor have we ever walked out on a bill. The party lead even left a $100 tip with the son. After this experience, more people began to share the changes in customer service they experienced. Some of the stories are not the best, and they are not coming back. I personally, have not had the same bad experience. My hope is that perhaps this is a misunderstanding, or the product of people having a bad day. Additionally, there may have been a recent bad experience with another party leading to the owners reacting this way. It is unfortunate. Before Karaoke, and only because my cousin invited me, I would not have known or tried OTC. After a couple of Friday's I came in for breakfast and all was well. Essentially, take this review as a heads up. I want to believe this is not going to be ongoing. I gave three stars because I did not experience the treatment given to my cousins. read more

I love this restaurant! Family owned business that prides themselves in providing great service, quality food and personalized attention. They have great prices on cocktails and beers. More than expected. We were out and decided to find a place for breakfast, and when a search showed this place, we thought we would give it a try. Neither of us had been here in decades, and the sofa counter was gone (yup, it was Diamond Drugs back then), but it was replaced with an entire restaurant and bar. The place was bright and clean, and while there was music going, it was low enough we didn't have to raise our voices to talk. Everyone working was pleasant, and orders were taken pretty quickly. We got ice teas (fresh and unsweetened) quickly. The wait for food was fair for freshly cooked, this means you are going to have to sit for a few minutes, so plan on that. I got the corned beef hash, eggs, and cheese sandwich because... corned beef hash. She got grits, which she said were not instant and were very good, and a fried egg sandwich, which was also good. The food was smoking hot when it came to the table, and all of ours was cooked well. I'm coming back, kind of interested in the OTC Big Pounder: 2 half pound patties, bacon, and cheese. This is a nice hole in the wall spot! In Gaithersburg! The owners of Old Town Cafe extended this place and turned it into a bar. Which is super cool! The ambience inside is definitely giving sports bars. Very clean and updated in the inside. I came in here for a large order for me and my coworkers and they ordered sandwiches and I got the wings and onions rings which were really good! My co workers raced about the steak and cheese with the fries. Pricing is good! Comparable to a carry out. There is street parking around the shop so you don't have to worry about that. Son and I came to check this spot out when our usual brunch spot was overly crowded. OTC had plenty of room. We parked in the public lot up the block -- old town Gaithersburg is quirky in the parking department. In terms of ambiance, it's pretty much a bar and grill, you know? There is a mysteriously pointless telephone booth in the corner, as well as large totem-pole-looking carving of a bear. But it's clean and well-lit with generous windows. Son had the chicken fingers and fries and proclaimed himself pleased. I had the biscuits and gravy, plus grits and scrapple. I love all these things so I just went for it. The sausage gravy and biscuits were asking the best I've ever had, no lie. The scrapple was very good too, nice and crispy. One star off for the grits though. Congealed, flavorless, not good. I'm certain I'll be back again soon! Overall very good. Nice service, clean bathroom. Reasonable handicap access, no steps to enter. read more

The food was excellent! We had the burgers and cheese steak. Everything was freshly made. We also had one of the best wings we had ever tasted. Make sure you order the wings along with the meal. They have a full bar. The service staff and our waitress were all excellent. The restaurant is roomy and nice and the ambiance is is a happy environment. Definitely worth far more than what they charge for the food. If you are in Gaithersburg or Rockville area or traveling to Montgomery County, make sure you stop by OTC Bar and Grill. So we came in the OTC because I love supporting small businesses. But today the service and atmosphere was off maybe it's the rain. The service was horrible and the servers were rude. It start off with the server coming to the table never greeted us. Just asked "do you know what you want to drink." I said Good morning to her, for her to speak to us. Then another lady came over and toke our order. My daughter ask for a vanilla milkshake with whipped cream, that should up with no whipped cream and when we asked about it, she stated we don't have none. Then I asked for sour cream and salsa for my eggs when I order had to ask for it three times. The service and disrespectful attitude was unacceptable. The same server was eating behind the bar and when she delivered our food I asked did you wash your hands as she was licking her fingers, again an attitude with we have hand washing stations. Among the absolute WORST restaurant food we've ever had. Mexican street corn dip was served with a handful of stale, broken tortilla chips, my son's chopped cheese was burned beyond belief - the bun was actually charred and bricklike, the meat & onions so burned they tasted like charcoal & were inedible. When I told this to the hostless/lady who seemed to be in charge, she said 'a chopped cheese is supposed to be smoky.' Uh, wut? Burned black and rock-hard is not 'smoky.' She picked the bun up (with her bare hands) & said it looked 'fine.' No. Didn't offer to take it off the bill, nothing. $45 and we left disgusted. No wonder we were the only ones there, except for an old man playing music and a drunk falling off his barstool that she kept on serving.
