Ordered takeout for dinner- my partner recommended it. The place is cool is hell. Big college vibes. I like that. Ordered a club wrap. This was my 3rd visit Sunday July 13th and I walked away wondering "Where did the beef go?" I ordered a roast beef sub the rest of my 4 person party made their orders and everyone felt the same way. My sub which consisted of 4 slices of roast beef, copious amounts of lettuce and two, two slices of tomato. Did not warrant a $20.00 price tag. Past visits for the same sub left me full after the first half with lunch waiting in the fridge the next day. Something changed and not for the better. I was looking forward to having a good roast beef sub. I ended up disappointed. I don't think the sub could have been any worse than it was. I was impressed with how fast they had it ready but soon found out they have no pride in the food they put out. The sub roll was not even big enough to hold the ingredients. I didn't even get everything on it and most of the ingredients were basically thrown on top of the roll and not even in it. My wife and I were out for a ride and happened to find O.S.S and decided to try it for lunch, I'm glad we did. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly and happy to answer questions from us newbies. O.S.S has an extensive menu consisting of sandwiches, soups, wings, salads, chips, drinks and more. We ordered a roast beef sub, a turkey sub and an antipasto. Everything we had was fresh and tasty and was prepared rather quickly considering how busy they were. They have indoor and outdoor seating and also do carryout. All in all it was a great experience at Oswego Sub Shop and I look forward to returning. My go to was always a half Turkey with the works minus onion. "The Works" included Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Provolone Cheese, OSS Recipe Oil, Hot Pepper Sauce, Oregano and Parmesan Cheese. Started by the Greene family over 50 years ago, the Oswego Sub Shop is a staple in the city of Oswego. The shop has always been a family affair, stretching back 3 generations. The menu has expanded significantly since they started, and the shop prides itself on slicing their meats and chopping their veggies fresh daily. While I've lived in upstate NY almost all of my life, I've never spent much time in Oswego, but the sub shop has been highly touted by some friends. The wife and I happened to find ourselves out that way today, so I figured we'd take the opportunity to try it. The wife chose the chicken Erik Cole Special while I went with the Buffalo Wing and Bleu. Took about 20 minutes before it was ready, though there only seemed to be another customer or two through the doors while I was there. There were at least 6 employees there and none of them were very welcoming or friendly, but they weren't rude or anything either. We got our food and headed home. The prices are a bit higher, but the subs are a decent size for sure. My wife really liked hers, but I was pretty disappointed in mine. It was absolutely DRENCHED in bleu cheese. Just swimming in it. Totally unnecessary amount. So much so, I literally took the entire sub apart and used a paper towel to wipe it down, but there was so much on it that the roll had become soggy and fell apart and most went in the trash, as I couldn't really re-assemble it. If it weren't for that, it would've been a decent sub, but it really just wasn't a very good first experience with them. While I've been told they're not exactly consistent in their quality, I'd probably give them another try, but stick with what I've been told they're known for and try the cheeseburger sub instead. Here for a work contract in Oswego and my bosses decided tonight to get the work crew subs for lunch and they chose to order from the establishment. I ordered the philly cheese sub with onions, mushrooms and cheddar cheese. I was very dissatisfied with what I got. I didn't get it the way I wanted it and it was nowhere near what you would get in Philadelphia. The sandwich lacked meat and also flavor. The meat was a little bland if you can call it that. The sandwich was sooooo skinny you couldn't tell if it was a cheesesteak sandwich or not. The pic posted will be proof. If you complain they act like you're the problem/get defensive instead of reflecting on how they could improve things in the future and use the feedback to help them. Al Roker has even made an appearance here and has a sub named after him since he did go to Oswego State University. This place is well known to all the college kids since it's located in a college town. Anytime I'm in Oswego this place is a must-stop to get a cheeseburger sub foot-long with the works. Packed with flavorful ground beef, melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, mayo, and Parmesan cheese (ketchup upon request). Now that's the works! As you bite down into the soft hero bread your taste buds will go nuts for the yummy goodness of the ground beef and all its tops. It's mouth warming good. It's literally sub heaven! I have never had another sub like this and don't believe I ever will. The customer service has always been friendly anytime I've been here. It's always been busy but they're very efficient in getting the orders together for their walk in customers. If there's one thing I desperately miss about my college town it is Sub Shop. The place delivers and is open til 3 am. They seriously have the best subs I've ever had. The buffalo chicken sub is probably the most popular. It is REALLY hot and really delicious. The bleu cheese is the best bleu cheese I have ever had. Get it with the works, onions, peppers, lettuce, tomato, mayo, hot sauce, is your mouth watering yet? They offer whole wheat subs which is awesome and they let you swap out grilled chicken. The meat here tastes way better than Subway and is a lot more fresh believe it or not. People think sub shop is just a place for late night junk food but I have gone here and eaten heathy; whole wheat sub, grilled chicken, mustard, greens, there ya go. Seems to be a little bit hit or miss. The first time eating here was fantastic! I highly recomended it to others. The second time was extreamly disappointing. It just seemed to be missing something...like maybe flavor. The onion buns were a soggy rye (and not being a big fan of rye) I had to scrape off the caraway seeds. This place uses ground meat. What IS that reddish sauce they use? Whatever the ingredients, I get the works and I'm in heaven. Great for all those drunk college kids, as it is open way late and on the way back to campus. As a side note, the last time I went I paid almost $9 for my whole sub, about $11 or so with a drink. Also got chili cheese fries which wasn't on the menu but asked if it can be made. Not bad, chili had a bit of a sweet taste to it. But definitely not a chili cheese fries that's served in Cali.
