    Truffle pasta
    Lynnette L.

AMAZING! So delicious I came back twice. The truffle pasta was so buttery and rich, truly an amazing dish. The filet with roasted potatoes was so tender and seasoned perfectly. The potatoes were ridiculously good that I ordered them as a side dish the second day. I would recommend this restaurant 100 times over. The owner Andrea was very welcoming along with all of their staff.

Very nice people. Wine list is very good and they will help you pick something lovely and regional. Had the warm pâté. Never had it that way before. It was excellent. Also the cheese tray. The truffled honey with the cheese was iconic. Boar pasta was excellent (it has olives in it) and the black truffle cheese pasta was also excellent. Highly recommend.

Last night in Florence.... Just around the corner from our hotel, my friend loved the minestrone soup she had her first night in town and wanted to return. I was up for a lovely plate of pasta having many salads and steak dishes on this trip. I have to make note of their big steak, which could feed a whole table of Europeans or a couple of corn fed mid-western americans, of which we witnessed both varieties of patrons at tables adjacent to us order and consume. The bread is served in a little brown bag, be sure to ask for a plate for oil. The service was a bit slow, but it is the custom to not rush one out. I'm happy to report, the food was perfectly prepared and delicious! see photos.

    Baby friendly too!

Went here on a recommendation from a waiter from a nearby osteria and it did not disappoint. If you want authentic, homemade pasta this is the place to go. Ask for Andrea!

Waiting time really long, food is good, stuff medium unfriendly. Time for coffee review. Temperature okay, foam not creamy, size good, taste little over brewed, freshness of coffee medium bad, presentation medium, too much acidity, small body. 2/5

Walked by here and the outside caught my eye. The waitress inside was friendly so I decided to cancel our existing reservations someplace else and made reservations here. When we go there it was not that busy, we had a very friendly waitress, ordered bottle of wine, appetizers and things were looking really good. Well that was until more people showed up, our waitress left to the back of the restaurant and now we were stuck with another waitress who was NOT happy. The service was so slow, we had to keep asking for water, food, to clear our table and not even once did she come to pour our wine for us. The food was good, but I am a true believer that your experience shoudl be an equal mix of quality food and great service. Given the competition in Florence, one would think that the staff would go above and beyond not only for a better tip but for return clientele. Hence why the 3 stars.

    Hot Macaroni and Pork Cheek

On my first day exploring Florence, I stumbled upon this little restaurant near the Piazza del Dumo. Their menu is simple and sounded tasty so I came in to give it a try. Right away, the service is pretty friendly and was helpful in answering my questions despite the minor language barrier. I ordered the Hot Macaroni with Pork Cheek, recommended to me. This dish was overall very tasty and gets spicier as you eat! It starts out mild and grows as you eat it, and its cheese and pork definitely have very strong flavor as well. It does get a little heavy and a bit on the greasy side so beware of that. The best part of the whole meal was the dessert! The Panna Cotta was perfection... heavenly plate of creamy deliciousness. Definitely give this dessert a try if you've already had a lot of Tiramisu throughout your trip!

3.5 Stars. Translated as red onion, Cipollo Rosa, is an inviting neighborhood restaurant. We came with high hopes as our hotel proprietor recommended this place and even suggested we connect with the manager. When we did, however, it made no difference in the service or menu offerings. We had two pasta dishes and shared one entree. She had the spaghetti with steak sauce and I had the truffle pasta. The spaghetti was good but not great. The truffle pasta was excellent. I love the consistently au dente pasta throughout Italy. For the entree we had the wild boar, which came as stew with cubes of meat. Unfortunately it was a little tough and lacking in flavor. If it was truly wild boar, I can understand it being tough but was surprised to have the blandness (?). Nevertheless we enjoyed a nice dinner looking out on this cozy Florence neighborhood.

I ordered the tagliolino pasta with black scrozone truffle for dinner one night. I came back the next day and ordered the same dish for lunch. It is a simple, yet delicious dish. I had the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert and that was tasty as well. The wine was reasonably priced. We ordered a 0.5 liter of red wine for €8. The restaurant charges a €3 cover per person. The service was friendly but inconsistent. Another couple arrived after us and they were briefed on the daily specials. Our waitress neglected to share the specials with us. We also requested bread and olive oil for the table twice from two different people before we received it 15 minutes later. Similar to other Italian restaurants, we had to flag down the waitress for our bill. It is nice not to feel rushed out of the restaurant as is often the case in the U.S. I would come back here.

Service was efficient (though not warm and friendly but we've come to accept that this is the norm in Italy... sigh). But they were out of a few wines. First, their menu says house white and house red so we ask for house white. She brought out red, and we said that we ordered white - then she told us that they only have red! (Not sure if she meant that they only have red that night or they just serve house red) in any case why didn't you advise us when we placed our order rather than not saying anything and bringing out the wrong order? Then we chose some wines by the glass and one of them was not available either. Pasta is fine. The truffled one was nice and the one with almonds and olives was strange

We happened upon this restaurant because our first restaurant was closed and the second was packed...ok, we'll keep walking. I had been wanting to try this place, so I was happy to try it...just never like doing that for the first time with guests in town. It turned out pretty great. The guys got meat, I believe the pork and the steak with peppers, they were both very happy. I got a very tasty pasta and someone got the minestrone soup. I would say I will go again, if anything to improve my review (sorry, it's been a few weeks).

Burrata with truffles and olive oil
    Sherry C.

Came here for dinner and ordered: - Burrata with truffles with olive oil - Gnocchi in a spicy sauce with salami, roasted red papers and pecorino romano - Bistecca Fiorentina Burrata was excellent, truffles very subtle flavor with the olive oil on a bed of arugula. The gnocchi was excellent served with spicy salami and pecorino romano. It had a very pungent aroma and strong rich flavors. The Bistecca was good but not as good as Sostanza. The meat was a bit stringy.

While in Italy, we stayed in Airbnb apts. While there, we only had time for one good sit down dinner, so we asked our local guy what he would recommend if he could only eat one dinner while in Florence. He didn't hesitate when he recommended this place. Going off his recommendation, we came here and ordered the Bistecca alla Fiorentina! IT WAS AMAZING! It was so big that my wife and I shared it and we still weren't able to finish it. I am pretty sure that anyone who can finish that amazing meal will end up in a food coma!! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great meal that is specific to Florence!!

One of the cheapest wines in the menu by bottle. This wine was surprisingly amazing!

Not many places actually have yelp reviews, but this one had so many with great feedback. The food looked amazing. When we arrived we thought they were closed, but that is because they moved to a bigger restaurant a few doors down. When we arrived at the front, the gentleman asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. He directed us to the line with no reservations. The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

We were in the area around 4:30PM and decided to stop in, totally not expecting much as we didn't make a reservation but figured if they're open and not busy, why not give them a try. The most memorable dish we had was the appetizer we order - fried polenta with mushrooms and chicken liver pate, the polenta fried crispy, the mushrooms creamy and the chicken liver pate so smooth and savory. We also ordered 2 pasta dishes - wild boar sauce pappardelle and spaghetti alla carbonara. So tasty and with depth of flavors. Paired well with the house white wine we ordered as well. Definitely a spot you don't want to miss when in Florence.

He was awesome and had us laughing the entire night. We peppered him with a lot of questions about the menu, he answered everything and also accommodated my father-in-law, who is GF. For app I had the anchovies with roasted red pepper, sea salt and oil over grilled crostini, very good. I skipped first course and ordered the ribeye steak for my main course. Bone in, medium rare, sprinkled with sea salt and a side of onion marmalade. The steak was very good and had way less fat than I expected. The waiter suggested a huge steak for the table, but I was the only one ordering steak that night. Maybe next time. Others ordered the fillet and it was cooked perfectly, the angels and demons gnocchi, and the veal scallopini. Everybody was pleased Really cool spot with a very good wine selection, drinks, excellent food and a fun atmosphere that you don't find at many places. Nugo was an A+ server.

What a fun place to be! The food was absolutely amazing. When we saw them slicing the salami right in front of us, we decided to order the salami plate and we were so glad we did! The zucchini flower and saffron pasta was bursting with flavor and the pasta was so perfectly cooked. I couldn't get enough! The duck ragu pasta was also hearty, rich, and delicious. The sauce was so good, my family soaked up every last bit with our bread. The ricotta spinach ravioli was also amazing!! Again the sauce was such a standout. The ravioli was so fresh with the perfect amount of bite. The green pepper sauce steak was soooo good. Cooked perfectly, with such a unique sauce that the whole peppercorns added perfectly to in texture and spice. Finally, the raspberry tiramisu. We were so full, but when they set these down our dessert stomachs were ready. They were amazing! Not the strongest raspberry flavor, but still such a delicious end to the meal. Side note, you MUST have a reservation to eat here, and they only take reservations by call. Because I didn't have a way to call them, I asked my Airbnb hosts who did it for me (also amazing people). We had our hotel call for us when we checked in and were lucky to grab a 1:30 lunch slot on a Thursday afternoon. We saw the fat physical reservation book when we went, and also saw an attempted walk-in get turned away. We wanted to go for dinner, but I'm just glad we were able to get in at all. Vini e Vecchi Sapori was easily my favorite restaurant in Florence. I loved the cozy, vibrant dining room, snug and eclectically decorated. We were at a table so tiny, I worried about pulling a muscle when I crossed my legs. It was nestled amongst other tiny tables, and abutted a counter where plates were put out for service and the reservation book set down in its glory next to my husband's head. Service was warm, efficient, and attentive. Our waiter basically told what to order and we obeyed him, with excellent results. The one-page handwritten menu, helpfully available in English, presented the day's offerings and this preemptive list of disclaimers: No Pizza No Cappuccino No The Fork No Ice No Spritz No Ketchup FUCK CANCER There was a brief selection of Italian wines by the glass, and we got the Chianti Classico and the Bruno de Montalcino, both lovely. The food was delicious, starting with good bread and good olive oil. We ordered the mixed Tuscany salami and the beef carpaccio as appetizers, and they were both superb and not in the least bit redundant. There were four or five types of salami, every one of them fantastic, and I loved the thin, silky carpaccio, served with rucola, parmesan, olive oil, and black pepper. We shared two splendid pastas, spinach ricotta ravioli in a creamy rose tomato sauce and a hearty pappardelle with duck ragu. For dessert, we had the lush, irresistible raspberries tiramisu. I plan to come back to Florence one day, and will make a point of coming back to Vini e Vecchi Sapori. It's a special restaurant, the kind you hope to find in Italy, a welcoming place with lively ambiance and wonderful food.

Appetizers were good: Salad with pecorino cheese, oranges, pine nuts and walnuts. We ordered the Octopus appetizer as well. The Octopus was beautifully prepared and presented, but didn't have much flavor. They nailed the Espresso Martini! One of the best I've ever had! We ordered the huge Florentine steak to share between 4 of us and it was more than enough. Ultimately what knocked this review down to 3 stars and what was really disappointing was how they targeted us as tourists with the note at the bottom of the bill (see picture). It read "GRATUITY NOT INCLUDED" in all CAPITAL LETTERS. Also note it was the only thing in English on the entire bill. If it had been our first meal in Florence we might have fallen for this tactic, however it was our last. There's definitely some hostility towards tourists in Florence. Don't get me wrong, some of the people and restaurants we've visited have been very welcoming and friendly. However we recently saw tourist taxes go up significantly, and then you see tricks like this on the bill at La Giostra. This was the ONLY restaurant in Florence where we encountered this. Once jet fuel prices make flying a relic of the past I would argue that some Europeans who depend on tourists for their livelihood may not miss our presence but will certainly miss our spending.
