It has a charming, cozy feel and was definitely a cute spot to stop while we were in town. We were seated right away by our server, Lily. She was polite and informative about the menu, although when we asked for recommendations, she unfortunately didn't have anything specific to suggest and mostly just told us that everything was good. We were originally seated in a booth to the right of the entrance, but once we placed our order, we asked if we could move. Freezing cold air was blowing directly onto the table at full blast, and after sitting there for a while, we just couldn't take it anymore. Once we moved to another table, it was MUCH more comfortable! Our children ordered a bagel with cream cheese, chocolate chip pancakes, regular pancakes, sausage, and fruit. They don't have a traditional children's menu, but we found out that you can order a child-sized portion of pancakes, which is one pancake instead of a full order. This worked perfectly for our youngest. I ordered the Monte Cristo crepe with a side of hash browns, and my husband ordered the Eggs Benedict. Our youngest child's pancake was initially forgotten, but once we mentioned it, they were able to make it quickly and get it to the table. The food itself was good, and we really didn't have any complaints about what we ordered. Unfortunately, the service after our food arrived was where our experience started to fall short. Our waitress didn't return to our table for quite a while, and we eventually had to flag down other staff members to get syrup, ketchup, and hot sauce that we had requested but never received. At the end of our meal, we asked for a carryout box and our bill, but unfortunately seemed to be forgotten again. After waiting around 15 minutes, I was getting up to take the kids outside because they were understandably losing their ability to sit still. Our waitress made eye contact with us, seemed to realize we were still waiting, and quickly brought the bill over. Thankfully, we were able to get out pretty quickly after that. Overall, the food was good and the restaurant itself was adorable, but the service could have been much more attentive, especially considering it wasn't very busy that morning. That booth directly under the air vent also definitely needs to be addressed--BURRRR! The food itself isn't the reason for the drop in stars. Our rating is based more on the lack of attentive service and the uncomfortable temperature at our original table. Hopefully those are things that can be addressed in the future, because eighteen87 is a cute breakfast spot with good food and a lot of potential.

We were 2 adults and.a.sick 6 year old - we should not need to order 2 apps and 4 mains and still be not completely full! The problem with small portion size is not just an expectation gap, it also disrupts the entire flow of the meal since the guest would need to order more food and then wait a long time for it to be prepared. The turnip was good with the sweet and sour taste although I wasn't a big fan of this vegetable. Overall, the dish was with okay quality but it's just not worth how much it costs considering the portion of valuable ingredients they used. I would only like to revisit if they can fine-tune the portion issue.

The samosas were flavorful, crispy, piping hot and we loved the fruit chutney. Our fish and chips were also hit, crispy, not greasy at all or overly salty. Everything here is made in-house with wonderful attention to seasoning. The tarter sauce had the best herb flavor. Our salads had basic, fresh produce and a homemade balsamic vinaigrette that was light and the perfect accompaniment to our salads. Again, dried herbs were sprinkled on the serving bowls and had the best fragrance and taste. Not surprisingly, I spotted herb plants growing in the window sill. Jenny confirmed that the owner and head chef uses them in his dishes. We were completely satisfied with our selections and don't usually have dessert. However, the Portuguese custard tart sounded so interesting, we had to share one. It is small and when sharing, just enough to savor the flavor without ruining the day's calorie count. Sooo good. Vanilla flavored creamy yet form custard with a caramelized sugar coating ticked away in light and flaky full dough. The total cost was $69.78 with a 20% tip. Well worth this tab for an excellent meal. We enjoyed the cozy dining room but can see how it would fill quickly during the peak of tourist season. Prepare for a wait. It's worth it. We got the BBQ chicken ($74.99) which came with either rice or fries (or you could do half/half), salad of your choice (we opted for fattoush), 2 dips of your choice (we chose baba ghanoush & muhammara), 4 fresh pitas & a whole chicken. Restaurant has a lot of parking and seating. Staff were nice but it was a bit of a slow service (had to constantly ask for things, such as cutlery, plates, etc). The washroom had the A/C on blast and it was freezing cold but at least it was clean. Now for the food - everything we had was pretty good. I usually don't like garlic sauce but the one that came with the food was pretty creamy and delicious. As for the baba ghanoush, it didn't taste like it but it still had a nice flavour. The Muhammara was amazing, not overly spicy. As for the fattoush, I found it just OK. I've had better ones elsewhere and I find that it lacked the crispy pita bites, as there was only a few. However, it's worth noting that the chicken took around 30-40 minutes to be ready, which I didn't mind because it came well seasoned and well done. It was not too dry, but not juicy either but seasoned well. The rice was also ok and I like that the food wasn't too greasy, but the plate came with way too many onions... I'd recommend this spot and would come back if I'm ever in the area. Would love to try other dishes on the menu.
