(Hot) Chicken on the Rocks (chicken shawarma on rice with garlic sauce & hot sauce) & fattoush salad
    Amanda B.

We started our day late and ended up eating dinner late as well. We ordered Osmow's for delivery, a restaurant I remember from when I lived in Mississauga that has since expanded to Ottawa. It has a $4.99 delivery fee to us, which we found to be more expensive and others and, to be honest, also why we've been deterred from getting it before. We thought we'd try it out this time. An hour and 20 minutes later, we finally got our order. We called and texted to check on status after an hour and 10 because we originally got a 29-49 minute estimate. We got a Chicken on the Rocks, chicken shawarma, fattoush salad, and fries. The shawarma was supposed to come with a can of coke, and also extra garlic sauce and hummus that my husband ordered on the side. We didn't get these items and the all of the food came cold. My husband enjoyed his chicken shawarma wrap. Just a warning that he didn't expect it to be so spicy ordering medium heat, but then again, he also added hot peppers, so that's on him. Still, he thought it was really good. Chicken on the Rocks is what they're known for, which is really just carved shawarma meat on rice with garlic sauce and hot sauce on top. It's been a long time since I've had chicken shawarma with rice, so it was a really nice change. For all you Ottawans, this isn't the garlic sauce you're used to. It's far less potent, much smoother and creamier almost like mayo, and has a touch of sweetness. Don't expect to get the toum you typically get at Lebanese shawarma spots around town. They cover the top of the chicken and rice completely with it, so it's a pretty rich-tasting dish. As for the hot sauce, it's more like one liquid spice than a bunch of blended flavours. I like spicy food and eat it often, and found it had a good amount of spice, so keep that in mind if you order hot or higher. All good together and pretty much how I remember it from over a decade ago. The fries were really soggy and cold, so that one was a total waste. The salad had almost no flavour, which was really disappointing for a fattoush. There was also a random cheese curd in my salad, but no complaint there. Because the order was so late, the pita chips were already starting to get soggy. We could've done without the fries and the salad, but the chicken dishes were pretty tasty. It's really a huge shame that it took as long as it did and came cold, since it probably would've been a lot better hot or at least warmer. I'm sure we'll eat here again, but for us, takeout might be better than delivery.

    Lamb Osmow box

This place wasn't terrible. I did the chicken half & half (with rice & fries) with medium heat. The rice was ok, a little bland, fries were really good. Chicken was also pretty good. They really load up the dish with sauce on top though, and I'm not a big sauce girl. So next time, I would order just the chicken with fries and sauce on the side. Hubby did the lamb Osmow box with salad. These were pretty big portions and the chefs there were really friendly.

Based on other reviews, especially Keith T.'s, I ordered the half grilled boneless chicken plate with Bokhari rice. The plate also comes with turnips, salad, hummus, and garlic. I decided to upgrade the salad to a fattoush salad, get an additional 2oz hummus and garlic sauce (I didn't know how big/small the ones would be that came with the platter), as well as 2oz of Ali's Hot Sauce and an additional Kabab Halabi skewer. The chicken was cooked perfectly, great char but still super moist. the hot sauce was very spicy. The fresh herbs and vegetables on the side were such a great pairing. The fattoush was good, especially with the extra crispy pita chips on top. I do wish, however, that plain rice was an option, as I actually didn't need flavoured rice and would've preferred plain. My husband ordered a chicken taouk wrap with garlic, lettuce, onion, and tomato, plus batata hara and a Coke Zero. I've never had fateh before and also wanted to try it because of Hadia G.'s review. I got a single order. It had freshly cooked chickpeas with a mix of yogurt and tahini on a bead of pita chips and topped with pine nuts. This was by far my favourite and I could eat it ALL DAY. My husband and I were obsessed. OBSESSED! It was warm and delicious, creamy but not super rich, and very flavourful rather than just salty. I swear it should be illegal to eat this many pita chips, but we just couldn't stop. This is a bold statement, but I think it's one of the top vegetarian dishes I've ever had. It's on the breakfast menu but is available all day. I got knafeh for dessert, also for the first time. It was nice and cheesy, and I expected it to be sweet, but maybe just a little too sweet for me. Since this was my first time trying fateh, I can't compare it to anywhere else, but I would absolutely order it again and again!

The Long Version; Shelby's Shawarma was started by 2 college friends. It started out as a food trailer in Lambeth, ON in 2014 and they opened their first restaurant in 2015 in London, ON. Now they have multiple locations across Ontario, mostly in the Greater London Area, the Greater Toronto Area and in Eastern Ontario (like Kingston and Ottawa). Their food is halal. They sell shawarma wraps and bowls. They also have smoothies and milkshakes. UberEats was having a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal where you get 2 Shelby's Famous Bowls for $17.99 (they are $13.99 each in-store, so even with the mark-up, it was still a good deal). I ordered for pickup and it was ready in less than 15 minutes. The Shelby's Famous Bowl comes with your choice of base (rice, salad or fries or a combination of any two), you choice of protein (chicken shawarma, tawook tenders, falafel or halloumi. You can also get beef and lamb shawarma for an additional cost), garlic or spicy garlic sauce, hummus, tahini, Palestinian pickles, Middle Eastern Pico and picked red cabbage. I chose half rice half salad, tawook tenders, and spicy garlic sauce. I also chose no tahini and got double pickled red cabbage instead. My husband and I each had a bowl and we thought they were great. The tawook tenders were pieces of marinaded chicken breast. The amount of protein was good and the meat was lean. The flavours mingled well and overall it was delicious. I felt the food was great with the UberEats BOGO deal. I personally wouldn't pay regular UberEats prices though. The in-store prices are ok, but I think I'd only return if I got another deal. So their schtick at Shelby's is they substitute the letter p for the letter b, so they call pickles "bickles" and they call wraps "wrabs." I guess it's supposed to be funny. Lol. They also make a big scene if you ask for ketchup in your shawarma (I would personally never eat shawarma with ketchup, but I guess some people do). Anyway, apparently they make you sign some waiver if you want ketchup in your shawarma because it goes against their recommendation. Haha. Apparently staff are supposed to be funny (?) I don't know because I had minimal interaction with staff at pick up. I told them I was there for an UberEats pick up and they confirmed my name and gave me my order. They were pleasant, but we didn't talk much. It's a fast food style restaurant. They have seats to dine in, but ambiance is fast food joint. We took the food home to eat. I noticed they had ordering kiosks but I'm sure you can also order at the register with staff. The restaurant is in a large plaza so there's lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. It's in the same plaza as Mandarin, The Captain's Boil and Freshii. Review #96 (2026)

Not being familiar with the menu, I found it to be a lot to take in. Recommend reviewing the menu before you pop in. There were three self ordering kiosks at the entrance, but they were all being used by a group that arrived at the same time as us. I would have preferred to use to kiosk so I can take my time and review the menu and customize my order. I ordered the falafel wrap which came on saj bread. The hubby ordered a chicken wrap, and a side order of fries and onion rings. It took about 10 minutes to receive our order. Not like traditional shawarma joints where they make it in front of you and you get to devour it within minutes of ordering. Falafel wrap was ho hum. Falafel was fresh, saj was nice and chewy, but putting french fries in a wrap isnt a wow factor for me. There were minimal toppings inside and hardly any sauce. All I could taste was the falafel. I actually let my hubby finish my wrap as I got bored of it. Hubby said his chicken was good, with the added hot sauce to his wrap, but did note the chicken tasted strange. Fries were the only thing that we commented was good. It was your typical frozen coated fries, but the seasoning they put on it was different and tasty. If you are used to places like Shawarma Palace and traditional Ottawa shawarma joints, I am not sure if this place will do it for you. It wasn't bad, but not a place I would rush back to.
