My visiting sister-in-law and I stopped by for dinner and mostly everything was awesome. The butter beans were not good, but the whole experience and the main dishes made up for it. First time here visiting from DC. The food/drinks were great. However towards the end April the General Manager comes over to the table and states "a group of old ladies said that they couldn't concentrate on their food from all the loud noise coming for the back." One thing to note is that it's after 9PM, hardly anyone in the restaurant, 2 groups of African American customers "sitting in the back", and 2 white ladies sitting mid-way through the restaurant. Once April stated that we asked for the check she walked away and never came back out. Now, not once did April communicate that same concern to the other group of black people. We left feeling disrespected and disappointed. I will never come back to this place. read more

First time at Oscar's and I'm pleased to say I will be back. Seeing so many people in and out we knew the food had to be good. We went around dinner time (around 6:30/7pm) and waited roughly 30 minutes for a table for two. All the staff were pleasant. Our appetizer was the Brussel sprouts tempura style; first time and not my favorite style but not bad. I ordered the seafood burrito and it was so good! You could tell because every bite I took was followed by a "mmm!" and a shimmy lol! My husband ordered the salmon and shrimp pasta. The shrimp was his favorite part of the dish. I had a taste and it was pretty good! Overall a good time, couldn't hear the music much once inside but there were sports playing on the TVs and happy faces. There aren't a lot of "fine dining" options in the Summerville area. Oscar's is one of the options if you're looking for a somewhat nicer meal. The atmosphere is still pretty causal. The food was good! The fired crab cake appetizer was my favorite. The shrimp cocktail and bruschetta were okay. The meals we all chose were good! My short rib was tender. The salads are good size! I was hesitant to go after my previous experience, but a friend gave us a gift card and my wife weren't going to waste it. I am so glad I did. Oscars totally redeemed theirselves. I haven't had anything short of a great meal since. I've tried specials. I've tried regular menu items. Everything is great. My daughter chooses Oscars for special occasions and will choose Oscars over another well-regarded steakhouse in town (H@ll$ Ch0ph0u$e) Typically easy to get a reservation (even last minute) If not available, it's never a long wait to eat in the bar section. As I sit here chewing two tums, I'm not very pleased with our meal. I got the short ribs and my husband got the shrimp and grits. My short ribs were tasty and tender but something in the gravy did not agree with my stomach (hence the tums, which is not normal for me). My husbands shrimp and grits were just sad. No seasoning, no roux, no flavor. He complained about it the whole time even after dousing with Tabasco. We know good shrimp and grits, this was not it. The service was great But it was to hot inside. Not impressed, won't be back. I'm adding a bonus comment at 11 pm. Explosive you know what just about an hour after eating. Fantastic! The food was really great and the server was very friendly and helpful when our party had questions about the menu. The only reason I am putting four start instead of five is because we had to wait at the bar until our table was ready, which was fine as we didn't have a reservation but the barmaid was a bit sour and cold which was very off putting. Take note people. "4 star Steve" is gonna give Oscar's a "5 star" rating; which is unheard of in my world! Let's start right from the beginning shall we?? Lots of restaurants these days won't take reservations but Oscar's will. I even gave them a call a few minutes later, because I was afraid my wife might be late because of traffic, and I wanted to give us more time. They were very accommodating, regarding my request to move the reservations up 15 minutes. When you arrive at the restaurant, don't be dismayed by what you see for parking spaces out front, because there is an entire lot in the backside with plenty of room. With regard to the wine list, should you decide to buy a bottle of wine, you will find the price is competitive to other restaurants.. It's possible to get an average table wine for a reasonable price, and enjoy it completely, depending on the meal that you get. If you are knowledgeable about wine, you know that certain wines go better with certain sauces; it's just the way of things. The waiter was attentive and so many in this day and age are not. He remembered every detail of our wants and needs, and even anticipated a few. The bathrooms were clean and there was simple things available like paper towels and soap. Oftentimes, bathrooms get ignored, no matter how good the restaurant is! My wife asked that her Primavera not be overloaded with noodles; that there would be a good balance between the vegetables and the noodles, and the waiter made sure of that. With regard to salads and salad dressings they were fresh and there were plenty of optional original dressings made in house. The serving sizes were just fine and frankly I don't always like to bring home leftovers but I hate to waste food. In this case we had more than enough on our plates. That includes the Brown bread that came to the table which was wonderful, and even the keylime pie for dessert. That meal that we just had tonight, was well under a $100, including a bottle of wine. Some other restaurants in town would charge me about a $140 for that same meal! Posted same review on Google but. Me and my boyfriend went here for a small dinner for our anniversary! The restaurant is very beautiful and packed. Unfortunately there was a small misunderstanding with our reservation. It was for 7pm and me and my boyfriend checked and and the hostess said it will only be a few minutes. We'll somehow me and my boyfriend ending up waiting 1 whole hour to be seated. We then asked what's going on. And they said someone marked us as a no show even though we sat in the restaurant the whole time in front of the host stand without anyone calling our name. Nonetheless the food and our server was amazing! But I do wish the manager came to the table. I feel like we should got some sort of discount. All we really got was a I'm sorry from the hostess. Oscar's has been a hit two times we've been. We had reservations way in advance for the Mother's Day buffet, and we went spontaneously on Friday for a late lunch. Just moved to the area so I decided to give this place a shot based off the menu. I honestly wanted to order every appetizer but narrowed it down to the fried oysters and the fried green tomatoes. And it was bland and overcooked. If I order a $30 pasta dish, it better come cooked perfectly al dente. And be what it's supposed to be. This was Alfredo. With only a skimpy portion of shrimp and scallops. "Fruit of the Sea" includes shrimp, scallops, AND MUSSELS, CLAMS, CALAMARI. Do not call it Frutti Di Mare and say it's your own specialty because you made it with half the signature ingredients and put a completely different sauce on it. You didn't make it the way it's supposed to be made! This was Shrimp and Scallop Alfredo. At least warn people when they order it. The rest of the dinner didn't even matter. Oscars food is amazing! The atmosphere is nice, relaxed, and a little classy. The service was really good! You could tell our server was trying to up sale as much as he could.. a little on the pushy/annoying side but I guess you have to do what you have to do! We took my in-laws here for their last night in town and they loved the food. My fiancée is unfortunately allergic to seafood so we did wish they had more options without seafood.. even something basic like spaghetti or lasagna but overall it was great. We tried Oscar's awhile back and didn't have a spectacular experience. It was during the time when places were just starting to open up after Covid lockdowns so we just chalked it up to that and said we'd try again later. We finally got out there again last night and I have to say I don't understand the hype. For a $100 dinner for two I expect a fantastic meal. We got there early and sat at the bar. I got an old fashioned and my wife got some kind of chocolate martini. The old fashioned is one of the worst I've ever had. It had 0 presentation effort and just tasted like bourbon on the rocks. My wife said her martini had chunks of ice in it and just tasted like liquor. Once we got seated we experienced slow service despite it being near the end of the night and patrons thinning out. I got a steak with the garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was great and the potatoes were bland. My gripe is that it literally looked like my food was plated by a child. I'm not expecting an art show in front of me but for an expensive dinner you'd expect it to look like at least some effort was put in. Oh I forgot to mention we got the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. I've had better. There was too much batter and not enough tomato. The ambiance was nice and clean as you'd expect for an upscale place. Slightly dimmed lighting throughout the building. Summary: should you completely avoid it?
