Oscar's - Shrimp and Grits were delicious - American Near Me - Summerville, South Carolina

A Summerville staple, Oscar's has been here for many years. There are 2 sides. One side is bar style and the other more fine dining. I've always had great food and great service. read more

Oscars is a great environment for any night out you want. The restaurant itself is fancy with dim lighting, they have an outside covered patio area with a bar usually live music outside in the evening and a very large bar area with the full menu or a bar menu. I give it 4 stars because the food is amazing but it's very difficult to order something "healthy here". We go when we want to splurge and have all the butter, oil, and yumminess we can take. The food is great just not ok the healthy side! read more

Our server was Kelvin and he totally added to the whole experience. The food is AMAZING!! Best shrimp and grits I've ever eaten. Highly recommend!! read more

Loves the bartender very nice for a date night out with my wife food was also very delicious

Lunch was very tasty. Started off on the wrong foot with my sweet potato fries being extremely salty but our waiter handled that immediately and brought out a fresh batch. I can't remember our waiters name but he was amazing. Told us he has been with Oscars for 11 years and served our country in the Marines. Definitely will be back. read more

The fiancee and I had a Groupon for Oscar's that we finally wanted to cash in. The instructions on the Groupon said that reservations were required, but we didn't realize this until we pulled into the parking lot. I called (from the parking lot) to see if we really needed a reservation (it was Friday night and the lot was packed). The hostess chuckled and said, no we could be seated in 5 to 10 minutes. So we headed in and were immediately impressed with the interior. I have to say, I've driven by Oscar's a few times, and it isn't particularly attractive from the road. It looks more like a banquet hall than a restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised by the interior. They have a lounge/bar area that had a live musician playing on one side of the restaurant and another more formal dining room on the other side. There is also what looks to be a large area from the main dining room for private parties or extra seating. We were indeed seated within about 5 minutes, and immediately greeted by our server, Tom. He filled our drink orders, and proceeded to tell us about the menu. He is a seasoned professional, who you could tell knew the menu backwards and forwards, which I appreciate a lot. We decided on the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, and the fiancee also ordered the wedge salad. For entrees, I went with the salmon (my litmus test for the quality of a restaurant) and my fiancee asked Tim to bring him something good, so Tim brought him a NY Strip. Everything we ordered was well executed, and well presented. Not to mention, rather prompt for a busy night. At the end of our meal, we decided on a dessert and asked TIm again for a recommendation. He immediately suggested the Banana Xango. It is basically banana cheesecake rolled up in a springroll wrapper, fried and served with ice cream and carmel and whipped cream. It was not my favorite thing, but my fiancee loved it. Personal preference, I don't like banana flavored things or caramel. I'm sad that it took us almost 8 years to go to Oscar's but, I'm glad we finally did and we definitely be coming back. read more

Oscar's is a step back in time when "dinner clubs" were preferred. Nice menu with a number of entree choices. Our server was seasoned, knew the menu and how each entree was prepared. Oscar also has a great bar area as well as seasonal outdoor dining. It was worth our drive from Mt. Pleasant to Summerville. read more

This was our first time visiting Oscar's for my 35th birthday. We enjoyed the food, the waiter was pleasant & on time, there was no waiting when we got there, & the atmosphere was cozy. I highly recommend this restaurant & we will be back! read more

Excellent food, service, and ambience. We had a delicious dinner of prime rib, chicken oscar, and a French seafood pasta dish. We tried the fried green tomatoes and grouper nuggets for appetizers. Everything we had was delicious! Recommend reservations since this place is popular with the locals and gets really busy. We will definitely return. read more

This was our second time here and it definitely did not disappoint, just like our first time. It was our anniversary tonight and I can not praise our server Rae enough. She was so sweet with superb manners and wonderful customer service. She was a breath of fresh air to be honest. The food was delicious just like before. We had the shrimp cocktail and mushrooms for appetizers; and I had the filet which was so tender and juicy and my husband had the special which was ribs. They were also so tender and delicious. We highly recommend Oscars and will be back soon. Thank you Oscars for a wonderful Anniversary dinner. read more

Showing up on the later side of dinner, the filet was already sold out but our waiter advised wonderfully for other delicious options. I started with a peach daiquiri, and we shared the smoked Gouda grit cakes and I could have made this my meal! Two golden cheesy grit cakes were drizzled slightly with sauce, and served over tender pulled pork that was so moist and flavorful without being messy. My Porkchop was also tasty and served with mashed sweet potato and collards. I was advised on the ribs and that is what I will choose my next trip! Service was amazing despite being there until closing. read more

Excellent! We had family in from Virginia and Texas. We called in for a reservation and had a table of 8 yesterday to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. We were sat in a beautiful front room by ourselves with the best waiter.. Kelvin. He was able to answer our many questions about the menu items as well as offer suggestions for items not on the menu. Kelvin was very personable and we collectively agreed that he was the best waiter that any of us had ever had. We tried the shrimp and grits and someone had a beautiful salad. Two people had tomato pie. Others had a seafood burrito that he suggested. Everything was very tasty. We had the calamari for an appetizer and it was crispy and delicious. My father-in-law and his girlfriend that live in the area have decided that will be a regular place for a nice, good priced meal. read more

We have come here before for brunch and it had always been delicious, not sure why I never reviewed it. Anyway, horribly bad week ary work, didn't want to really leave the 'Ville area, and definitely wanted something different. It's never been exceptionally packed here ary any point when we have come. Not sure why. It's a place that likes to think of itself as "fine dining", and for brunch, it is pretty spot on with that description. They're is amble area to sit. Bar / lounge ish area. Dark woods is the running decor. TVs at bar area and at the booth tables. I'm not sure what ambiance they are going for. Casual, fine dining, neighborhood bar??? Anyway, on to the food. We went on a Thursday which is Italian night. $15 for salad, entree, dessert and I think an app. Not a bad deal. We went with sharing a mussel app, which was absolutely delicious. The sauce is a great butter, creme sauce. Mussels were good in size and plenty there for us both to get our fill. We decided to split the Fruition De Mar - this is hands down the best I have had anywhere. Definitely will be coming back for this particular meal. The sangiovese wine and creme brule were not on my top favs. The wine was too spicy for my liking and later really upset my stomach. The creme brule was soggy and I didn't feel it had a lot of flavor. The boyfriend loved it, he's a huge creme fan, where as I am not so my decision on it might be biased skewed. All in all its a nice upper type of dining in the small world that Summerville is. Been around over 30 years, so that's saying a lot. read more

Came here to view the dining chairs they had advertised for sale..ended up ordering some lunch. Quiet atmosphere, reasonable prices, distinct menu selections that are not just the same stuff you find in chain restaurants everywhere. The fish stew was delicious as well as the roasted turkey sandwich (forgot the menu name). Service was reserved but efficient and friendly enough. The decor was a bit on the dark, vintage side, but overall decent experience. Didn't buy any chairs but left full and satisfied. read more

Well our daughter just moved to Summerville and we were visiting. I ask a friend who lives there where would they recommend taking her, actually the night before Valentines Day. My friend quickly said Oscar's and even recommended a certain waiter Kelvin. I text my friend after we left saying what a Wonderful recommendation. Our total experience was Great. Meals prepared perfectly and Kelvin could not have done anything more to provide Better Service. We definitely Recommend and you now know who to ask for as your waiter. read more

We've been to Oscars a dozen times over the past couple years and has always been very good. But our visit on Feb 5th was quite the opposite. 4 of us dined and 2 orders of the shrimp and grits were terrible. Flavorless and seemed to be lacking most of the ingredients. I asked the server if they changed the recipe and got a rathe rude 'no'. Halibut special could have been a frozen piece, when previously was very good. Something has changed here and not for the better. Did ownership change hands? Did the previous cook staff Leave? Are they cutting back on budget and the quality is suffering? We need to find another 'go to' for a special dinner outing and be cautious if we decide to go back. Very disappointing. read more

Oscar's - Salmon salad - American Near Me - Summerville, South Carolina

Oscars is definitely the place for date night or even a family dinner. The food is phenomenal and the staff is just as fantastic. If you were there for a date night I said just use it in a cozy booth with the high backs it feels super intimate and feel super romantic. It's off the side of the road and I never would've thought it would have been so great but it truly was. read more

Absolutely fantastic Mother's Day Brunch. We have been here on multiple occasions and the meals are always great.

The low stars is due to my waitress lack of knowledge what gluten free meant. I am gluten intolerant and when I told the waitress that and asked if a specific dish would have any gluten in it, she asked me "Gluten, that's flour right?" Finding out that the waitress didn't know what gluten free was, was the worst case scenario for me. She did go ask the cook and said it could be made gluten free, but I completely lost confidence that what I would be served wouldn't have a sauce with gluten in. I did take a chance and ate the dish and didn't have any problems. The food was indeed delicious, but I would definitely suggest anyone with food sensitivities to be wary of this place and ask lots of questions. read more

You know, I really hate giving the restaurants I go to a low amount of stars but this place really deserves this one. Let me start with our starter salads. The house salad was fine. You can't mess that up. Just throw some lettuce, tomatoes and whatever else you want on a plate and cover with dressing. Done! However the caesar salad, oh dear, what did they do?! The people that order the caesar salad in our group took one bite, almost spit it out and sent it back. They said it tasted awful! I took a bite because I wanted to try it and wow, it was really bad. I don't know what they do to the dressing, but they should stop immediately. For my main course I got the filet and sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes were amazing! I could have eaten a whole plate of just that. But the steak, what the heck. It took me about 5 minutes to chew each bite I took and I ordered it medium! I had never eaten a steak so chewy in my life! Maybe I'm just a spoiled Texan, I don't know. Some people in our group really loved the she crab soup, my husband said the pork chop was good but his cousin said the chicken alfredo was awful. The good thing is that they keep your drinks full. The waitstaff is constantly coming around to refill your water, tea, and whatever else you might have gotten to drink. That was a nice thing since the majority of us was drinking a lot to get this food down.... read more

I took 10 from a small, surprise wedding before Christmas for an unofficial wedding reception of just immediate friends and family. Every order to their own liking with a few drinks. The appetizers were fabulous. The smoked Gouda grit cakes- never heard of it- served over pulled pork and a citrus chipotle barbecue sauce. Man, I'll do that again. The crab stuffed shrimp was the best I've ever had. The entrées were scored on a 1 to 10 basis by the one who chose them. Ribeye steak- 11, chimichanga- 9, seafood burrito- 7, chicken carbonara- 9, seared salmon- 7, chicken parm- 9. The service was excellent along with the dessert. My wife fell in love with the seasonal peppermint Oreo pie. Our waiter, Kelvin- efficient, attentive and awesome. read more

I have known about this restaurant for many years; been there once or twice, but honestly, I do not recall what that experience was like. Just recently My Son and Daughter went to dinner. We ordered the penne carbonara, lamb shank, and the rib eye....HELLO!!! No complaints here, I ordered my steak medium rare, when I say every bite I took, that beast melted in my mouth like butter‍. The lamb shank meat tenderly falling from the bone, I heard the "carbonara effect" was a magical little treat. The only thing I would say is that my goat cheese mash potatoes could have used a little.... Oh yeah, calamari was on point; I am used to the marinara sauce, but this appetizer had a different twist in flavor with butter and feta cheese.... I close my review with Billy our waiter, I want his service for our corporate events, polite and professional...no corny jokes to earn that tip read more

very professional and a great atmosphere! i love the food and the menu is great! i recommend the fried calamari.

Good food. Service could be better, but it's ok for the most part. Would recommend to someone who is looking for a non chain restaurant.

The restaurant's parking lot was packed when my friend and I arrived so we figured it must be good, and it was! There were different seafod combos that excited the eyes, and also the tastebuds. Our server was very zealous but, this was true zeal at least from our server because they believe in the food! We had she-crab soup, shrimp, oysters and a seafood burrito.... They were all YUMMY!!! Nothing on the desert menu tickled our fancy but, it was all good. I definitely have to go back to try something else and to use my coupon! read more

Oscar's is absolutely amazing. I've been here twice and I was blown away both times. I can't remember the exact dishes that I ordered but I remember savoring every bite! This Restaurant certainly lives up to their reputation. On a busy Friday evening, without a reservation, we were able to be seated within a few minutes, much to our delight. The classy decor goes hand in hand with the professional service provided by the hostess. Our service is very prompt, and our order was taken by Olga, in an efficient manner. Water served with delicious warm bread and butter at the appropriate spreadable temperature. After a reasonable short wait Dinner is Served. Prime rib for both, with loaded baked potato and broccoli, with a side of creamy horseradish. What can I say... Delicious!!!! Everything was hot and cooked just right. Dessert menus presented after the main course, and although very tempting, too full to order. Next time, I'll be sure to leave room!! Lol. Coffee is wonderfully fresh and piping hot. Just a perfect end to a Great meal. read more

Oscar's - This is the Prime Rib and it looks Fabulous ! - American Near Me - Summerville, South Carolina

The food here was delicious. I've eaten here twice and both meals were amazing. The pork tenderloin was extremely moist and I'll probably get it again the next time. I had the filet the first time and it was cooked perfect, but had a strange presentation with straw fries piled very high on top. The shrimp that came with that filet could have been better. Bread is served with your meal with a honey butter spread. The wait staff spaces courses well so you don't feel rushed. There is a great bar area to wait for you table that has several big screen tvs. You can order food in there. We get the spinach artichoke dip every time. We've unfortunately been too full to try the desserts, but they look huge. The atmosphere is slightly dark with red plaid wallpaper. We both found the booths to be uncomfortable. read more

Hi, We have been at this restaurant many times. But yesterday for lunch we had there buffet. The choices on the bar were unbelievable. I have never had pulled pork as good as that was in my life. The roasted cauliflower was also great. The prices were reasonable for lunch. As well as the buffet they have a regular menu, so no matter what you prefer there are choices for any one. Keep up the great work. read more

Long delay on service but all in all the meal was nothing to be super excited about. Is she crab soup was over sweetened with Sherry and carrots. The seafood burrito not the best idea to use seafood and I honestly seems like an attempt to make a moderate waste of seafood that maybe on this last leg. Although I say these things the calamari was actually very good the dipping sauce not so much. read more

Came here for lunch with mom and my little brother for lunch. Mom ordered the RAW stuffed shrimp 0/5, brother and I shared the burger 2.5/5. Stars are for the service and not the food. Moms shrimp came out Raw as well as the bacon. I immediately let them know this, and they did offer another dish but did not offer to take care of the bill. They removed this dish from the total bill and that was all. We will not be back as this left "a bad taste in our mouth" and can not believe we ate raw shrimp. The burger was nothing to call home about. No complaints about the service and greeting at the door. read more
