We had a reservation and they would not seat us. We were on time. What gives, you ask? They said: "that a reservation is only a book mark--could be longer..." Really? I recognize I'm going against the grain here, but we weren't highly impressed. We ordered the Crab Dip, the She crab soup, the scallops, the crab enchiladas, the seafood burrito, key lime pie, and cheesecake. The scallops are TOP notch, perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The purée beneath could have had a little thyme to add dimension but overall that was the highlight of our meal. The rest of the dishes relied on sauce, cheese, and cream to make the dish taste good. You could hardly (actually not at all in some dishes) taste the seafood. I tried the dip just by itself and I just tasted cream cheese and really no flavor. Usually you would want to make the protein the star of your dish, right? We heard great things about the soup from locals and was so disappointed. We took the desserts home and I wished I opened them before we left, there was no fruit coulis trio. The key lime pie didn't have any drizzle either. which was highly Disappointing as being pregnant, it was what I was craving. Now if you have food allergies or intolerance, just avoid this place all together. Although the server was super attentive and friendly (she really was great) she made it a point twice to say that there are no gluten friendly options or really, awareness. When I asked if the enchiladas are made with corn or flour tortillas, I was told corn but they really looked like flour. It actually was made to seem (if I read between the lines) that essentially this was restaurant policy and not lack of her awareness. Like, the owners/chef were stubborn to not accommodate allergies or intolerances, or maybe the back is just a cafeteria line and can't alter anything. Being pregnant subsides some of my allergies (like gluten)- so instead of full on body hives, I have a breakout, which I expected to happen as I chose to just deal with it and not attempt to dive into ingredients in detail. Overall, we don't believe it lived to the hype. It is highly disappointing that in (almost) 2023 the lack of accommodations for food allergies and intolerances still run the south. read more

During a recent trip to this area, we visited Oscar's without a reservation. Arriving a little early (5:30pm) we saw the jammed parking lot and followed a large family group headed for what was a birthday celebration. We got a nice table, great wait staff and low noise. This place is so big that it can handle all groups without any conflicts or high noise. We don't recall what we ate that night but it was very good and we will return on another visit. read more

Great service and scrumptious food. We tried two fun drinks / the watermelon crush was my favorite, but the peach southern cackalacky was fun too. The red wine drinkers seemed satisfied with their offerings as well. We shared a bowl of the she crab soup - wow! One of the best soups ever - highly recommend. Hands down, this is the best local restaurant in Summerville. The modest exterior only adds to the charm of this establishment as you feel you have discovered something truly special once you step inside and notice the beautifully detailed bar and dining area with custom button tufted booths and beautifully mounted mirror lights. This visit was during December so the red and gold holiday decorations complimented the elegant decor perfectly. We visited for lunch on a Friday afternoon and the dining room was packed . Apparently , they cater to the local business professionals by offering a lunch buffet. Though I did not partake , it looked like it had many delicious options. We had the Mahi with asparagus and potatoes , shrimp and grits and a side of fried shrimp . Their menu boasted their shrimp and grits are the best in Summerville and after trying it, I agree! Topped with bacon, mushrooms, scallions, cheese and fresh local shrimp , I believe their dish could surpass many downtown restaurants. The Mahi was equally impressive - cooked to perfection with a perfect blend of seasonings . The side of fried shrimp was delicious ! For dessert , we tried the creme brûlée topped with strawberries, it disappeared quickly ! The service was excellent and the ambiance warm and welcoming . Our experience was pleasant enough but was pretty disappointed in the overall quality of our dinner. My wife and I visited Oscars for the first time after hearing good things. We started off with calamari which was quite good. For our main course my wife order the Scottish Salmon and I got the 12oz NY strip. Our food arrived pretty quickly and looked great. I ordered the steak medium-rare, however, once cut the Steak was pretty much raw throughout. Not a big deal, I asked the server of it could be cooked a bit longer and she took it back quickly and apologized. A few minuets later our server arrived back with my food. But again the steak was pretty much raw on the inside. Our server was still standing by to see how it was cooked and upon seeing that it was still raw apologized again and took it back. After a few more minutes, a person I believe was a manager (they did not introduce themselves) arrived back with my food. By this point my wife had already finished her meal. The steak was now cooked to a nice medium but the manager offered no apology and left without much of a comment after delivering my food for the third time. I was not expecting anything to be comped or taken off our bill after the experience but an apology for the delay, and seeming inability of the kitchen cook a steak, at what seems to be a higher-in restaurant was a little off putting. We received more apologies from the server for the issues and in no way was it their fault. As I said we've always heard good things about Oscar's and it may have just been an off night, but for the price of food these days I'll definitely be taking our business elsewhere. read more

I made reservations for wife's birthday. My medium rare steak came out as charred on one side and medium on the other side. i sent it back, then received a steak which was raw. I wasn't sending it back again. the garlic potatoes were bland lacked even a hint of seasoning. The roast lamb was delicious. Dined there recently with my son. Our server, Brittany, was both knowledgeable and very friendly. We started with the pan seared scallops and fried calamari. Both were very tasty and well prepared. For our main course, we both had the Pan Seared Chicken Oscar. This is a somewhat unusual dish with crabmeat, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce, accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes. This was one of the best meals I have had all year. The ingredients used are clearly fresh with a high quality of product. After dinner, we had a nightcap at the bar. The first warning should have been when there wasn't a wait at 6:00 on a Saturday night during peak season. They were at roughly 2/3 capacity, but pretty short on wait staff. We ordered our drinks and appetizer and our waitress gave us a heads up that the kitchen was very backed up. We weren't in a rush and she kept the sweet tea coming so we were good! We ordered our meals and had to wait an hour before they came out. My husband ordered the prime rib blackened and I ordered the crab cakes. His steak was ice cold and had the blackening seasoning just dumped all over the steak dry without even putting it on the grill. My crab cakes were cool to the touch and the first 2 bites had shells in them. The waitress did take my husband's steak off our bill and apologized for the wait and subpar meals. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because our waitress was very nice and the scallops appetizer was very good. Other than that, this was a disastrous meal. read more
