Was visiting from out of town (Charleston, SC) and wanted sushi for lunch. As far as I know and have heard, this is the only sushi restaurant in town. It's in a strip mall and there are no frills. There is barely any service. You place your order at the counter and they give you your food in takeout boxes. You are welcome to eat at their tables. I ordered the Thomaston Roll which was spicy tuna and crab. It was quite good. I also got a Mexican Roll which had "spicy" shrimp and spicy tuna, but the shrimp was not spicy. Their spicy tuna tastes good and fresh. My mom had the chicken yakisoba and said it was good. My only complaint was no low sodium soy sauce. read more

This place is what it is...but it's not Japanese Hibachi. The sauces are premixed, overly sweet and thick as snot. The meat is small dice and the veggies were overcooked and soft, probably due to the fact they've been swimming in sauce since they opened. Fried rice is just rice with some soy maybe. Veggies-Zucchini, onion, broccoli and small bits of mushrooms. Yum yum sauce comes with the meal and you have to request the "brown" ginger sauce. Service was nice and polite...but it's pretty much self serve after you order. Prices are reasonable for portion sizes. Not likely to come back....it's just not my idea of good hibachi...and it's not Japanese even if you close your eyes and try to imagine it. read more

The food here is good. I'm very impressed and was pleased to see there is a new place offering Japanese cuisine in Thomaston. You basically start by ordering your choices at the counter, paying, and there are fountain drinks and you self-serve your own sauces. The food is delicious, nutritious, and fairly inexpensive. It is family-friendly but I do not believe they offer full-dining/group dining Hibachi with the shows, etc., with a Hibachi chief. This is an excellent spot of lunch when you get that itch to have Japanese food, like I often do. Enjoy, and welcome to Thomaston! Sushi was warm and shrimp was mushy and gross, their seafood is not stored properly. Got horrifically sick shortly after eating here.

When Osaka first opened, I was surprised that they chose such a small place. But, as far as I know, this Podunk city has never had a sushi restaurant before and I believed, perhaps, they wanted to test the waters and possibly move into a bigger venue once they were ready. I was more than happy to welcome a sushi/hibachi place into this area and not have to drive to another county when it opened, but the place looked, and still does, as if someone wanted to open a sushi restaurant but had no idea how to operate one or how the place should look, or, for that matter, how sushi should be served. I could give them the benefit of the doubt back then, and even had hopes that the place would improve when I heard that someone from one of the Japanese steakhouses in Griffin had been asked to come down and show them how it's done. Unfortunately, all of the problems that were in place when they first opened are either still present or have gotten worse. Osaka is a tiny, cramped little hole in the wall with no more than ten booths in the place, and nothing beyond a hideous mural on the wall to give one any indication that you're walking into a sushi or hibachi place. Dirty floors, sticky tables that look like they haven't seen a rag in weeks, and absolutely no condiments or napkins on any of the booths. Even take-out Chinese places have at least napkins, salt, pepper, bottles of soy sauce, perhaps even small bottles of hot sauce for those so inclined on the tables. But as the booths looked very pedestrian and stoic as if they were placed there as an afterthought, it looked obvious that hospitality was not present. It's quite clear, they just want you to order and take your meal out, and the booths are there for you to sit while it is prepared. There is stark and uninviting lighting in the place as if you're walking into a hospital cafeteria, and it's clear that the employees are unhappy. The cashier, a blonde who looked to be barely out of high school, was brusque and brief as she took my order; no eye contact, just 'Please go away' on her face. The cooks appeared to be made up entirely of sullen Mexicans save for one person who looked vaguely Asian, and each one of them looked as if they would give up some vital part of their body to be anywhere but in this place. In short, atmosphere and charm as well as cleanliness were completely out the front door, which was plain to see they would rather have their customers. Which brings us to how the food was served. The sushi came in a cheap, plastic take-out box, and both smelled and tasted as if it had been sitting in the freezer for a few days and thawed out. If one knows anything about sushi, there is one thing above all else that is king: Freshness. The very minute sushi is prepared, even fresh, the flavor will change over time; this is why, of all things, you should never, ever, ever trust sushi that comes in a plastic take-out box that looks like you picked it up from the Kroger deli. You are not getting its intended flavor and can in fact get very sick from it. This was not always the case with this restaurant; they would at least let you pick up your order on a small plate. But one thing that hasn't changed is that they do not give you a small dish for your soy sauce. They used to at least have tiny, shallow plastic cups you could use that were better than nothing, but nowadays you can kiss those goodbye, as well as the bottles of soy sauce they used to keep on the counter to fill them. Instead, when I asked for soy sauce, I was given an insulting handful of packets that had me wishing I had brought a pair of scissors. The sushi itself did not taste fresh and indeed tasted as if it had been pre-made, set in the refrigerator and waited for days until someone ordered it. I feared for my life halfway through my first roll and had to stop. The salad that came with the hibachi selection I ordered was an embarrassing toss of lettuce and carrots and one slice of onion, no dressing. The hibachi selection came with hideous cuts of beef that were clearly not steak as advertised, bland, and overcooked (it was ordered medium rare), with shrimp that was similarly overcooked to the point of being rubber, and scorched, bland rice that was two shades away from being burned. I couldn't finish it. All of my entrees were served in pre-wrapped to-go bags despite the fact that I wished to dine in, again reinforcing my impression that they just want you to pick up your order and get out. This place is an example of an owner that wanted to open a sushi restaurant and hibachi grill but had no idea how it should be run, and clearly does not care. They can't even be bothered to keep the place clean. Please, if you have a friend who is curious about Japanese cuisine, take them out of town. Do not bring them here. They will hate you, as this place clearly hates Japanese cuisine enough not to put any effort into it or their place of business. read more

Came here on a weekend during the summer with my family. I was completely impressed. We pretty much ordered a little of everything on the menu from the hibachi dinner, couple of the bowls, and sushi. The soup/salad were ok along with with the hibachi nothing I'll move back home for but the sushi was amazing. We tried 6 different rolls and everyone of them were great. Whenever I'm home in Thomaston I'll definitely be stopping by again. This place is a gem especially if you enjoy sushi. The customer service was good. You pick your seating arrangement booth or table and you order at the front counter. It's more of a self serve place than a regular restaurant but it definitely doesn't take anyway from it. read more

I've tried this place four times in the past year or so and every single time the meat is over cooked and there isn't any flavor. It doesn't even taste like Japanese food. I am currently located in Reynolds, I come to the Planet Fitness right next to this restaurant. It's the best Hibachi and Sushi place around! I tried the Pink Lady Special Roll recommended by one of the reviewers (thank you!) and it is awesome! I love all items included in the roll, so it was the perfect one to start off with. The dumplings were soft and hot! Very delicious!! I always order dumplings at every sushi place I visit. I also tried their spring roll. Mine was very crispy and hot. It wasn't drenched in oil. Every bite was perfect. I ordered this will I was at Tractor Supply. I was informed my total and that the waiting time for my order will be 15 minutes. After I finished running my quick errand, I came in to pay and waited about 1 minute. The young lady was SUPER SWEET. She brought me my food at the booth I was waiting on. You can see the whole kitchen. It's very clean. I will definitely be back! I hope your experience will be as great as mine. read more

This is one of the "hole in the wall" places that makes Thomaston a great place to live. They're menu is typical Japanese hibachi take out which is great but they excel at sushi! They have one of the best sushi menus within an hour of our town. The Thomaston roll is absolutely incredible, I highly recommend trying it. read more

I was very impressed with the sushi menu and taste of the sushi. Very fresh and delicious. Did not try the hibachi yet, but am looking forward to it next time. Tiger roll, eel roll, and volcano roll highly recommended. This is not a fancy place, as you order and pay at the register prior to sitting down, but it is just what Thomaston needs! To find such a jewel in a run down shopping center in the midst of a run down town that is thomaston, is truly a blessing only Japan could provide. The eating area is rather small for the excellence of this cuisine, but nevertheless the food is exquisite and I leave happy every time. read more
