The store is well laid out, the products are all of fine quality, the prices are high. The staff are all friendly and welcoming. Dogs are allowed inside and the employees fawned over my Labrador retrievers. Happy vibes, cool. Do I need a pair of $30 thermal socks? Nope, but if I did Amazon has a house brand for $14.99, for 5 pairs. My Yelp Elite spouse did buy an insulated rain jacket here last year. Well made, comfortable, She likes it. $189. And here again my snark, the same type of jacket on Amazon is $35. I'll concede that the Orvis jacket might be better quality. Probably not $154 better because both it and the Amazon cheapie are made in China. I like to browse around this store to pretend that I'm a wealthy fly fishing / duck hunting sportsman who likes to dress well for those occasions. And in the evening inside the members hunting lodge the guys would say "Hey Sonoma-Valley-Tom you are looking good, is that Orvis that you're wearing?" The Orvis products are made both in the USA and offshore. The Orvis company stands behind every product they sell far better than any other retailer I've done business with. He was very accommodating when I had to return a coat with a zipper that kept malfunctioning- it was a Barbour coat too so I was surprised but glad I was able to exchange it. I don't fish and can't remember the last time I camped. I have never purchased anything here but my boyfriend shops here quite a bit. He fly fishes and recently started tying his own flies. I usually tag along when he goes to Orvis. I have never experienced customer service as superb as this. You can tell how much the staff members love their jobs. They are willing to sit and talk about fly fishing for long periods of time. They give good advice on equipment, technique and locations. Instead of trying to sell the highest priced item they recommend the item that is most suited for the individual customer. The last time we were there, the staff told us to come in any time to ask for fly-tying tips. I don't even fly fish but I am always blown away by my experiences there. read more

I'm heading to New Zealand in March to have my fishing experience of a lifetime and I needed to hone my fly casting skills. I called Orvis and they set me up with one of their instructors (Brandon) who figured out my bad habit within 5 minutes and we spent the next hour making improvements and getting dialed in. Brandon gave me some things to work on and offered a return visit before my trip to continue to work on my cast. Super nice people and I highly recommend this shop. It was a simple return do to a defective product that was within in the warranty and when I presented a receipt they ignored it and did there own research to, in my opinion, try to find a reason to not return the item. Okay, wow. It has been a long time since I have experienced the caliber of customer service my family and I did today at the Orvis, Roseville store. Long story short: I signed my parents and I up for the fly fishing 101 class, wrote down the wrong time and showed up when it ended. I thought I was SOL which really sucked since I'll be out of town when the next 101 class occurs....but no. Sarah and Christian really went above and beyond to take care of us by arranging and providing us with a last minute, brief but fantastic, "101" class... hopefully I can come back and set up my line from start to finish and actually cast a line in a pond or something :). The store layout is impressive and the prices are comparable to gear I've priced at other big-box stores/online. I really wanted to drop the $$$ to buy my equipment today but I still feel I need to get some of the basic facts down before hand- I'm 100% new to this fly fishing game- but when I'm ready I will DEFINITELY be back to this store. read more

This review is not really about this store. Nice people work there. Its about the bill of goods that is the guarantee they tout about their flyrods. I bought an Encounter rod there last year. I bought it with the understanding that it would be immediately replaced, no hassle, no questions asked. The rod was pricey, but this seemed to be an outstanding feature. So yes, one segment snapped in two when I was fishing last weekend. I took it to the Roseville store, and was told that it would take 6 weeks to send the rod in, verify that it was broken, and send me the rod back with a replacement. 6 weeks to verify that the segment was snapped in 2!! In the middle of prime fishing season.Everybody at the store agreed that it had snapped in two. They offered to sell me a backup rod. Thanks, but no thanks. Oh, and then I would have to pay a $60, non-refundable repair fee up front! This was never mentioned when I bought the rod. Its a nice store, but I've made my last visit. Anybody who buys a rod there and is pitched about their marvellous replacement guarantee - beware!. read more

I ordered shorts that were too large and returned them within one week all tags in place. The original charge was $82 while my eventual credit was $61. I called to find out that their policy is to not to refund original shipping and charge for return shipping. It's not possible to try clothing when buying online so this seems excessive. I buy almost all my clothing online and rarely have had to return but I have never been dinged 25%, as a matter of fact as I recall I have always received a full refund. read more

What's not to love about a fishing store. Fly fishermen can be a little on the pretentious side IMO. This place is different. They really seem to want you to have a good time out on the water. The staff is knowledgable about the surrounding waters and a forthcoming with advice on how to maximize your outing. Prices are up there, but you get quality gear. What makes a store special? Customer service. I was lucky enough to be given a wonderful Barbour Bedale coat last Christmas. Only problem, it never left my closet. Why? Well, it just wasn't the right style/cut or color and I dreaded wearing it - so I didn't. Now that its actually starting to rain again in California - I'm going to need that coat. So I gathered my paperwork and called Sarah at the Fountains Orvis store. I explained my situation and she jumped into action. She took the time to fit me in several different styles, gave me color choices - then brought in the coat that was going to be perfect for me with no obligation. Wow I thought. So I'm new to this whole fly fishing thing and I had such a great experience at this fly shop. My cousin signed me up for a fly fishing 101 course courtesy of Orvis. The instructor Doug gave us a 2 hour class on basic fly fishing and then took us out for a 2 hour course at Gibson Lake in Antelope. They provided us with fly rods for free. This class was for free and so educational for aspiring fly fishermen. I have to definitely give this place a 5 stars because the service was all there. A free fly fishing course? How could you go wrong with that? Very professional and courteous staff. I can't wait until I become a great fly fisherman. Thank Orvis! read more

Very nice women's clothing store. I really did not get a great impression of this place when I first went in. But, I have to change things up a bit. There customer service is pretty fantastic. I came in to just look at the Guide Sling pack. At the time I really didn't have the cash to buy it but, wanted to see if it was worth saving the rest. As I am looking at the pack one of the employees starts talking to me about it. I told him I was just checking it out and told him I didn't have enough right now, his answer? "How much you got?" Was very cool of him to make a deal and get the bag in my hands. way above and beyond what I would expect. I can't speak to their knowledge yet but, will def give this shop another go. read more

I am a lifelong fly fisherman and have always admired the ORVIS brand. They have an old world (classic) look and feel with modern materials and technology. It is the perfect blend in my opinion. Recently I was looking for some Silver Sonic waders for a fishing trip that I am going on end of month (Chasin' Silvers in Alaska). I called the store to see if they had the size I needed because I live up the 50 corridor. I spoke with Mike Fulton and Mike Gervac.They were both extremely helpful. They did not have my size at the store, so they placed a catalog order for me ***with a discount and no shipping charge. When they saw that it would not ship until a week before I needed to head out they got the waders in the meantime and canceled the catalog order and gave me the same great deal shipping from the store. I got them the next day. What great customer service. I am extremely happy with my waders, but even more so with the great work the people of ORVIS, Roseville gave to me. Highly recommended.
